Mr. Schwartz took DC through the era I grew up in. His was a name I always remembered being in every DC comic I read. May he rest in peace.

He will be missed. He's responsible for a lot of the stories and characters that made me fall in love with DC. I was even going to make him into a smiley, Julie Lad. I still may.

Sad news indeed. Mr. Schwartz was DC in my day and I'll always remember him as one of the giants of the comic world I grew up loving.
Rest In Peace, Mr. Schwartz

To heck with DC, I owe Julie Sooooooo much!!
As Scott said, Julie was, I think, most responcible for the DC that captivated me as a child, and kept me as an adult.

And I thought I was sad when Curt Swan died. I hope that DC makes good and does some serious tribute stuff in their books. DC wouldn't exist without Julie's hard work and genius.

What sad news. Julie was one of the comics greats. The industry will miss him greatly. For my generation, it's hard to think of DC without him.

Here's a guy who was still attending conventions, long after retirement. It seems to speak to how much he loved comics; it wasn't just a job for him. In his book about Curt Swan, Eddie Zeno interviewed Schwartz and was "ebullient" with the level of cooperation the former editor provided: "At eighty-four years of age at the time of the interview, to see this level of engagement was inspiring."

Wow. On the bright side, comic books in heaven just got a whole lot better... Mr Schwartz was a shining beacon over DC during my childhood and teens. I am sorry to hear of his passing. And wasn't Julie-Lad in the Ambush Bug Stocking Stuffer during a spoof of Legionnaires? Has anyone ever counted up his on-panel appearances in a DC comic?

The comic book world lost a giant, and we all lost someone who made our childhood a little brighter. Rest in Peace, Mr Schwartz. You will be sorely missed.

Gotta agree with what everyone else has said. To a man who made comics really worth reading.
I remember reading a quote of his that really showed how special and unique he was.
"Every comic book is someone's first comic book."
If only every creator would remember that valuable piece of wisdom.

Julie's obit in today's New York Times mentioned the Legion.... so I guess that makes it an AR item.
