Don't get me wrong, because it's still groovycool, but I was just thinking last night about how things were in the early days, when we were this ragtag band of refugees from the DCMBs who'd finally found a home. There was such a feeling of needing to defend LW, both from the enemies we'd made and from its detractors on the "official" Legion boards. I remember how freaked out we'd all be when the board would go down for a few days.

I don't know. I worry sometimes that we've become a bit too established, that it's become too easy to take what we've got here for granted. I kind of miss having to fight for it.

When I first got here there was a feeling like people would defend this place to the death. I think it's largely still here, Eryk. I think we're naturally evolving, although I hope it's not to any kind of establishment.

I miss the nostalgia of first discovering this place too, although it was about three months after you. I know the board can sometimes feel like it has it's ups and downs, or even get 'cluttered' in places, but that's just one more 'fight' to fix it.

Whatever the case, I'll still fight for LW by your side, especially now that it's become *thee* message board to be at

It's true! Legion World has become the establishment.

What can be done to re-establish it as the premiere indie-rawk Legion mb?

How about this:

Abandon all threads over four pages (except SHAKES)?

Start all new topics that let go of past, petty differences?

A bold new direction for the MMB? Not changing any continuity or established things of course, just trying to get things back to an earlier feel…

Reboot LW?

No changes in history, continuity, or anything! Just maybe a fresh start with page one of the MMB is all, if even for a few days! Maybe like a new #1?

Remember the real craziness that you and I caused on the Phineas board that day Lash, resulting in three of my IDs banned and a bunch of yours--including the MLLASH ID? Now that was some extreme craziness!

I even posted a thread called “Dear Ms. Kamphausen” in my Pious One ID, asking Rob’s mother to stop him from ruining our fun!

Let's all change our names to LMB #, in the order of how we joined the LMB! That makes Lash LMB#1, me LMB#4 and Cru LMB#8! For those who aren't sure, they could just make it up!

Well, I wonder if the indie-rock feeling would stick around better if some people weren't so filled with ennui as to give up their armies, their avatars, and their private messages ... {grins, ducks, runs}

Jillikers, Grey! Don't you realize that I'm doing all that to try to regain that Indie Rock feeling? Did we have armies in the early days? NO! Did I have a kewl Dean Lee drawn avatar in the early days? NO! I made do with constipated Calamity King! And did I have Private Messages in the early days? Well, YES! But nobody ever used them except for important stuff!

The "my college dorm room had some charm because of the bookcases made from stolen cinderblocks, milk cases, and construction-site plywood" nostalgia argument won't cut it, amigo. We have more artistic creature comforts, that doesn't mean we've sold out!

And ennui is a symptom, not the problem!

Bah! I'm with Grey-- I deserve fabulous things like avatars manipped by Monkey or drawn by Dean, and a water fountain that pours expensive champagne. I don't know how I ever survived at the old boards!

You must look within my friends to find the indie-rawkin'-ness of Legion World! I'm keeping my avatar, post-count, army and security office, but I'm heading in a bold new direction! What direction? Well, hell if I know, but bold it will be!
