As I said my Dad was a big country fan in the 1970's and early 80's, but I really didn't start listening to country until George Strait and Randy Travis started to get big.

So does Viv's love for Donna Fargo earn her another highlighted thread after Future goes?

Terry: I dislike country now, it lacks depth and meaning, some is still good, but most bites. Country use to tell a story with rhyme and a chorus. WHERE ARE THE BALLODS AND ACOUSTIC GUITARS?!

I don't know. I stopped listening to country when chuckleheads like Tim McGraw became popular.

I've never been much of a fan of country music, despite my acute southernism otherwise.

I do think that the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton duet Islands in the Stream is a slice of heaven, though.

I love the country overtones to Sheryl Crow's music.

And, for some odd reason, as I type this, I can hear the Oak Ridge Boys' Elvira playing in my head. God help me!

Oh, I can remember when George Strait first came out! UNWOUND... IF YOU'RE THINKING YOU WANT A STRANGER... and the like. Good stuff! The last songs I liked by him were TRUE and ONE NIGHT AT A TIME.

The last country songs I was super-fond of were probably THAT'S WHY I'M HERE by Kenny Chesney and any release from the first Dixie Chicks album.

Speaking of Tim McGraw, pay attention to your local Top-40 station.

Tim has released a duet with major-rap-star NELLY called OVER & OVER. Yes, I said Nelly. Rap star.

It's actually a pretty song. # 1 requested song in Memphis today on the top 40 station.

I went to the George Strait Country Music Festival here a couple of years ago, got free tickets because a friend of mine was playing on the second stage. We got there at like 8:00 in the morning, started drinking before noon, and before George even hit the stage I was too drunk to even enjoy it. I'm still pissed at myself for that...

I loved that show! I wish they'd release it on DVD or something so I could watch some of those skits again. Most of those guys are still on lots of other comedy shows (like Reno 911 on Comeday central), but they've never been as funny as they were on the State.
