My apologies if this idea has been posted here before, I've searched several back pages and didn't see anything resembling this.

So, a simple question(s) to pose:

What issue of LSH was released during the month and year of your birth? And do you own the actual issue?

My Birth Legion is Superboy #190, cover date of Sept. 1972, released in my birth month of July 1972.

Story by Bates, art by Cockrum, entitled "Murder the Leader!" Based on a synopsis I found for the story, Saturn Girl and Mon-El are up for election as Leader when Tharok and Validus kidnaps them. Tharok is intent on killing each leader of the Legion until they give in, but when Mon-El convinces Tharok to declare himself leader, Validus attacks him.

That sounds crazy, goofy good. I don't own this issue...yet.

I was born in late September 1963, so the issue on sale at the time was either Adventure 314 (Nov.) or 315 (Dec.)

We just reviewed both issues on the Re-Reading Legion Archives # 2 thread.

Personally, I've always liked the fact that the issue of Lightning Lad's resurrection (312) was cover dated my birth month.

By the way, Man of Valor, "Murder the Leader" is a very good story and one of my favorites of the Superboy backup run. It profiles Mon-El, who initially expresses doubt about his ability to lead. But when Tharok and Validus intervene, he learns he has what it takes.

Folks could double-dip on the Legion in my birth month of July 1973 with:

- Superboy starring the Legion of Super-Heroes #198, "The Fatal Five Who Twisted Time"

and the reprinted:

- "The Super-Moby Dick of Space" in the DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #21

Well, I'm not entirely sure what would have been on sale during my birth month/year, but the cover date for January of 1980 was Legion of Superheroes #259, the first time the Legion ever had it's own title.

And do I own it? Sadly, no.

So, I'm June, 1976, which I think means I would have either Superboy #217, which is the first appearance of Absorbancy Boy, or Superboy #218, which is "The Plunder Ploy of the Fatal Five!"

Thanks, Boot.

According to that link, Action Comics #381 was published in August 1969 (the day before I was born, in fact), featuring "The Hapless Hero" where depressed Shrinking Violet and Matter-Eater Lad go on a date.

The only character in all of literature who has been described as "badnass" while using the phrase "vile miscreant."

I'm born in April 9 of 1961.
The most next Legion story was Supergirl's Three Super Girl-Friends in Action Comics 276, Published in March 30 of 1961.
Nice! Because I really love Supergirl, Saturn Girl, Phantom Girl and Triplicate Girl.

Actually, you're one issue off on both: Absorbancy Boy (and Tyroc's second appearance) was 218; the Fatal Five was 219.

Thanks, Reboot.

I see that Adv. 314 was published the day after my birthday, so, technically, the issue still on sale for my birthday was 313. I'm fine with that. Always dug the Satan Girl story.

Well, whatever the issue number, it looks like the Fatal Five story is my birth issue. Also, Karate Kid #4, and a Limited Collector's Edition reprint of the Mordru two-parter!

The closest to my birthday are:

Karate Kid #11
Karate Kid fights cavemen in the 20th century!

and a really interesting three generation:

Justice League of America v1 #148

with the JSA, JLA, and LSH ... I really think they need to do this more!

I have to buy this one!

May of 1965 means I get Adventure #334, "The Unknown Legionnaire!"

Makes you wonder how many times they thought they could expose Supergirl to Red K, anyway...

Quislet's story for me. Ironic, since I don't particularly like Quislet. Quislet Esq., on the other hand, is my favoritest ever.

Well, March '70 gave us Action Comics #388, featuring the tale "Sun-Boy's Lost Power!"

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Wow, what a wide range of diversity.

It's interesting seeing what the state/status of the team was at the time of our births versus the first time you bought a LSH issue.

Considering Mon is my favorite Legionnaire, that's great to hear. I think it's been reprinted in both the Archives and Showcase editions so I'll check those out as well for it sounds like a fun story.

That is a great little story, with awesome Cockrum/Anderson art. Too bad Shady is miscolored in some panels. I remember buying it as a kid. I rushed home and gave it a quick read and then was sent out to mow our sizable lawn. I couldn't wait to finish so I could reread it. It was my first encounter with any of the Fatal 5.

I'm April 1974, so...

Superboy #201, cover date March/April 1974 - The return of Wildfire and the introduction of Infectious Lass. Very cool. Wildfire might be my favorite male Legionnaire. Also a story spotlighting Dream Girl, one of my Top Five female Legionnaires, although I can't remember anything about it off the top of my head.

...and...

Superboy #203, published April 18, 1974 - The death of Invisible Kid, also the first issue pencilled and inked by Mike Grell. I have mixed feelings about the story but I love Grell's art.
