Much of it is pretty terrible, but I still loved it.
It would be inappropriate to begin this thread with any act other than DAVE & SUGAR, whom I j'adored. In, like, 1980, I went to a Kenny Rogers/Dottie West concert-- but was most excited by opening act Dave & Sugar!!
FINE, I admit I also thought he was super-cute. Here's the super-sad one, it taught me that playing games leads to heartbreak and to say what you really mean:
Wow, some of this is very difficult to revisit; but while I'm here, here's another heartbreaker from this particular Gail Davies album... I'll need to step away from this for awhile, after this one.
Well, maybe one more. I'm already dabbing tears anyway. This song used to make me cry so much it scared my Mom, heehee. Pretty much any song where something bad happened to an elderly woman was gonna just about kill me.
Fortunately Mama quickly figured out she had a "sensitive kid", and she's been pretty much grateful ever since! (this video is from '85, but Gene Watson released this in the '70s!)
"Boney Fingers" was apparently released in 74, which would have been at least 2-3 years before I got into music and Granny started supplying me with vinyl cash!
I loved Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius... they were duet partners and also hanky-panky partners... but OOOPS, both were married to other people! Helen divorced her husband for Jim Ed, but-- UH OH!!-- he did NOT leave his wife for her... and that was the end of their partnership (and careers!)
A shame really-- I especially thought Helen Cornelius had a pretty voice.
Don't even play like you didn't love Anne Murray, I ain't hearing it. Of many songs by her I j'adored, I j'adore this one the most (I even got drunk enough ONCE to sing it in karaoke):
Edited broken link, cracked up that I just yesterday saw the Anne Murray episode of FAMILY GUY featuring this song!!!
Y'ALL DON'T EVEN PLAY, my love for John Conlee and especially MISTER KENNY ROGERS will be displayed soon enough I'm sure! But tonight, it's time for a lass with the last name of PARTON... no, not Dolly, she's too mainstream! I much preferred her sister STELLA PARTON!
So, about Kenny. It wasn't just his plethora of awesome solo singles, but dude could duet with ANYBODY. And this is my absolute alltime favoritest duet ever by anyone in all time and space!! Mainly because, about this time, I was just discovering the honey-soaked gravel voice of Kim Carnes...
