And DO NOT GET ME STARTED on the closing repeated verses, "before we say goodbye"--- I mean, to this day I'm not sure I've heard such genuine angst in a song.
Wow, how depressing to see so many of these links broken! WTF?
Anyway... blind wonder RONNIE MILSAP... saw him in concert once, in the early 80s, opening for Barbara Mandrell who was RED HOT then. This was always my favorite Ronnie song, I found it very male-diva-esque. I tried it once in karaoke but will never ever attempt that last high note again!
Before I became a teenager and realized how uncool country music was (ha!), it was just a part of the airwaves of my childhood.
One of my earliest country memories is of ol' Silver Hair himself, Charlie Rich. Of course, I was too young to know what they were doing behind closed doors, but it was still a great song.
My Favorite line: Jesus loves me yes I know, so I keep on rollin' with the flow!
Best lines: You can't take it with you when you're gone, but I want enough to get there on And I ain't ever growing old So I keep on rollin' with the flow
^OMG ARE YOU EVEN GETTING ME STARTED ON MISS DONNA!!!
My absolute favorite childhood album is FARGO COUNTRY by Miss Donna. We had it on 8-track tape and wore that out. In the 90s I found it on vinyl in a used record store in Nashville, and after that paid a DJ to transfer it to CD for me (this was before that tech was easily available and before ITunes was a big THANG).
And now in my next 2 posts, my 2 favorite songs from that album *grabs tissues, as both make me cry like a baby*
This song absolutely broke my heart as a kid and still does... that "he wouldn't hop for/he never loved no-one else"/he can't be found stuff KILLS ME DEAD...
And my other favorite from that album... DO I LOVE YOU (Yes In Every Way)... Oh gosh... this is even harder to listen to for me now because of recent events...
"--and if in death the Lord is kind, you'll be the last thing on my mind"
I didn't really grow up with this version of the song that Johnny Cash made famous, but this has to be the most upbeat song about murder and drug abuse I ever heard!

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman. But they won't.
The only pre-Hee-Haw Country music I remember in the house was Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer. Everything else my Ma had was rat-pack or crooners type stuff.
My earliest exposure to the word FANDANGO! This track is from the absolute 100% FANTASTIC AND BEAUTIFUL album "QUARTER MOON IN A TEN CENT TOWN", an album that should be listened to by everyone!
I searched for this version for DECADES until, out of the blue, it FINALLY popped up on youTube. Mel McDaniel and Reba McIntire's versions can FRAG OFF, these boys were where the FEELS were at! Go SHYLO!!!!!
LOVED this song, still do. Have a really specific memory of it too. I was VERY young, and my parents and I were at this very big nursery (plants, not babies) that had a super-cool bridge suspended over a fake lake. I remember it was so cool-looking, and this song was playing on the sound system while I stood on the bridge looking down.
As an adult, I love this song because it speaks so truly. Patterns are hard to break, especially relationship-wise.
