In the backup story in SLSH #240, there is a scene where Laurel Kent is sitting up in bed when Dawnstar, who is apparently her roommate at the Academy, comes in and starts talking to her. As the conversation is going on, Laurel gets out of bed, while Dawny undresses and gets into what appears to be the same bed. In every panel of this scene, there only appears to be one bed in the room, that being the one that Laurel is initlally lying in.

What exactly is going on here?

It was a 4th Dimensional-bed.

Laurel didn't ever use the bed though. She just plugged herself into the wall, and waited another night for the Millennium smile

Obviously, Dawnstar didn't sleep in a bed, but set up her own space-teepee every night.

Well, that explains where Brad Meltzer got the lesbian Dawnstar idea in the "Lightning Saga" story from.

When you consider how many Legionnaires and how many applicants there were, this would make total sense.

All this time, and it was you who created her. smile

Actually, they have bunk beds, look at the fourth panel on page 7 and you will see that Laurel and Dawny are talking in the lower bunk while the upper one lies unoccupied...

It would be a very odd bunk bed, with the lower bed enclosed and the upper bed completely open - if anything, it tends to be the other way around so no-one falls out! And that assumes those are pillows on top at the back - they look more like a decorative dome-thing in the middle of the top to me:

Also, Dawnstar indubitably gets into the same "bunk" LK stands up from, even if you assume there is another one on top:

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Perhaps they work/train in shifts and share the same quarters?

Dawnstar is asking Laurel to put out the lights as she leaves for her shift.

Maybe Laurel wrecked her bed when she took Dirk back to the room with her. And Dawnstar, being a good roommate, is letting Laurel use her bed when she's away!
