Hey Everyone,
My first ever post (just signed up) so I thought I'd talk a bit about what brought me here.
I'm a long time Legion fan! My first issue that I remember buying was Superboy/Legion #209 (Who Will Save the Princess?) and I was immediately hooked.
I collected for years and, like many others, was blown away by the Levitz era Baxter edition tales. Like so many fans, the TMK era, while it started with a lot of potential, never realized it and left me cold. I started off with the re-boot with mixed feelings, but after a short time I couldn't maintain my interest and dropped the book when the team got sent to the 20th century by Violet. For the first time in most of my life, The Legion wasn't a part of it.
That was about 5 or 6 years ago now. I vaguely stayed up with the Legion news. I knew that the regular series ended and knew of Legion Lost and Legion Worlds, although I didn't really know the details of them.
Then, about a month ago I was walking by a comics store and popped in. While browsing down memory lane, I picked up a copy of The Legion. Wow. It was good. It was very good. It didn't have that cherub, cartoony feel that the book had when I stopped reading. I knew there was a completely new creative team, but were unfamiliar with their work. For the first time in years, I bought a few Legion comics. The recent ones on sale.
For the past month, I've been in a growing frenzy trying to find back issues of the current series, of Legion Lost, and of Legion Worlds. Every back issue I found and every page I turned cemented my thoughts that this series had something. I managed to find most of the issues, although am still missing the odd issue here and there.
I can honestly say I am blown away. I had no idea that The Legion was good again, and certainly none that it was this good. These stories and these characters are riveting. For the first time in early in the TMK era, I sit here and can't wait for the next issue of The Legion. This is a feeling I haven't had in ages and I realize now that I miss it. I'm so excited to have a quality Legion again, one that I can really absorb myself in.
The storytelling is amazing with incredible detail, and it flows well and makes sense. There are no "out of the blue" stories designed for little more than sensationalism (Emerald Violet? Come on...) The writing is incredible. It's intelligent writing. It's emotional writing. I can't tell you how I felt when I read issue 3 (?) and saw the fate that had befallen Gates.
The art is equally stunning. I always thought that one of the most appealing aspects of the Baxter series, besides the incredible stories and characterization, was the fantastic art, specifcially the backgrounds and colours, and the way the 30th century was depicted. It looked like it could truly be the 30th century. That is back in these new books. The art has a slight more edge to it than it did in the Baxter books, but that isn't a bad thing. It's a different team so of course they are going to have a different look. It's not important that it's the same or different, just that it's amazing!
The characterization seems to be back on track too. Gone are the cutesy, cherub-like characters. They now seem more mature, some with an edge, and many with more depth. My favorite character, Triad, is one that has benefitted from this new creative team. Great new look (more mature), and do I sense a bit more of edge to her? If I do, that's good. She should have one.
This series is steeped very heavily in science. Many of the plots are based on fascinating science (genetics, mutation, machines etc). It's worked so far and is great to read. I wonder how the team will handle the magical component of The Legion, or whether they will at all? I think of Mysa and wonder will they be as adept at handling her as they are at the rest?
I also see lot's of speculation that this team may be leaving the book soon. I can't tell you how much that would sadden me. To find this book again only to lose the team that turned it around (in my mind, at least) would not be a good thing. I hope they stay for a long time. I think they have many more stories to tell.
I do still pine for the "old" Legion. I still fantasize that DC will launch a second series, starting with issue #64, picking up the day after the Magic Wars. Of course, I fantasize that Paul Levitz would write that series too. I think he too has more stories to tell.
Aside from my little dreams though, I am, for the first time in years and years, an excited Legion fan. DC has a new/old reader and I am thrilled to be back!

Welcome home BridYYC. I have to say that was one impressive first post!!
DnA (Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, the writing team, in case you didn't know) and their various art teams (predominently Copiel and now Bautista) have really revitalized things for our 31st century friends. And we're glad you found your way here to Legion World, a place where people are equally excited about all things Legion related. It seems to be a really good time to be a Legion fan again.
Folks around here are passionate about the Legion (understatement alert), and a lot of them are like you. They miss the good old days (Levitz/Baxter/etc.), but they are (overall) looking forward to the future again too. I promise you'll find a lot of different opinions around here, relating to all the different eras the team has grown through.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions about what you've missed, and I'd be willing to bet that if you posted the specific issues you are missing, you'd even find a few friendly voices offering to sell/share an extra copy of one of theirs. You never know...
Again, welcome back to the fold.

Hello Brid! Just before I read this thread, I bumped the What\'s your Legion-reading roadmap? thread. If you give it a look you'll see tha other people posting here have dropped Legion only to be brought back. I like the rush of really wanting to know the backstory of a title, getting ahold of the back issues, all that stuff - whether it's a new interest or a rekindled one.

Oh, forgot to add: One Legion fan, Don Sakers (self-proclaimed "Get-A-Life Lad"), speculated what would happen if Levitz had continued to write Legion for the duration of the 5 Year Gap. It covers Legion #64 through #125, leading right up until TMK's new Legion #1, including some annuals and other tidbits. There's a issue synopsis and the first year's worth of them include "cover art". Imagine, what if Levitz wrote the 5 Year Gap stories? It's clever, detailed, and well plotted. I know I'd have bought them! See what you think!

Welcome BridYYC! Nice of you to introduce yourself and your legion past so thoroughly. Your passion for the team and its potential shows so I'm sure you'll feel right at home here! Having these boards (and the Tues / Sat Legion chats) are a great way to feed that Legion jones the other 29/30 days of the month...

That's weird. Maybe he said everything he had to say and moved on. I notice his post was on my birthday.

But he was so excited! How can you lose that excitement after one post? Maybe he didn't realize Nightcrawler moved the thread and got offended by the belief that his post was deleted.

Actually, I see from his profile that he has an AIM ID. I think he needs some mass-LMBP spamming.

I'm moving this one over to MMB! Hope you don't mind. I wonder, however, why this was moved to the MMB? I mean, it has similarities to the content of the "introduce yourself" thread, but it's primarily about rediscovering the Legion via the DnA run.
Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Probably because LW was only 6 weeks old and it took a little time for us to get used to so many forums, figure out how they'd "work", and so on.

I'm glad this thread was bumped up though. The "review" of Legion Lost, and the sense of wonder and excitement that came with it, were articulated so well in the first post!

Another reminder that I didn't like The Legion #1 enough to pick up The Legion #2
