Here we go again...

The following rules were established by Kent at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:

The rules:

1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!

2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and responses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.

3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.

4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.

This is the first "Kill This Thread" thread that has been started by someone other than me in some time.

Just one of many threads I haven't started.

I think we were all having such fun we forgot to check if the thread had breached 2000.

I was wondering if Ibby would give tbe thread a different ttle to shake off pesky posters.

"Thread's Dead" would have been a cunning title.

I thought of that but thought that even if I won, it would not count on account of cheating

If he did change it, I could change it back. We're both Spaceopoly mods.

So my changing it would have been futile

Kind of like resisting the Borg.

Star Trek: First Contact ruined the Borg with the addition of the Borg Queen, in my opinion.

I was first introduced to the Borg through the Borg Queen, so I can't compare.

Making one member of the Borg emotional and even sexual seemed to contradict the entire concept of an emotionless, hive-like species.

Would have been good if she were a non-seductive Queen.

I guess the comparison is with bees and ants where the queen's real job is to make babies.

There's a lot of messed up, sexist stuff in ST. I still like it, though I'm not a real Trekkie. But it's hard not to notice that sexism is all over the place. Women rulers and matriarchal societies on the show have almost always been portrayed in a super-unflattering light.

You know what else drove me nuts? Literally every woman in the galaxy apparently wanted to sleep with Will Riker if she hadn't already. Will Riker is truly ten of the most bland, boring fictional characters in the world. I have never, ever gotten his appeal at all.

I'm an odd TNG fan in that I find Riker and Picard to be the least interesting characters in the show and they're the straight, white men leads! Data, Geordi, Worf, Dr. Crusher, and Deanna Troi were WAY more interesting!

Troi got so much cooler over the last 2-3 seasons. Earlier in the show, they were obsessed with making both her and Crusher exclusively cuddly and nuture-y and it really crawled up my nose. Not that it's wrong to have feelings and share them with your colleagues, but such one-sided characterization really limited their ability to do meaningful things in the stories.

When they finally allowed Deanna to wear a standard Starfleet uniform instead of that catsuit that showed off her bewbs, that really showed that they understood the need to take the character more seriously.

I liked that Deanna and Riker's romance wasn't emphasized more than their duties to Starfleet, which was refreshing.

Deanna was pretty.

I think Saavik from the original movies was hot.
