Donald Duck and Daffy Duck do that a lot too.

When I was really little, I couldn't quite understand why Donald Duck in the comic books was so much more well-spoken than Donald Duck in the cartoons. I was too young to grasp the concept of alternate universes and such.

When I was little and watched Bewitched, I was amazed when a person would vanish. I knew there was no such thing as magic, so I rationalized that there must be invisible suits that the actors zipped up.

I was too young to understand that people can, and do, change over time.

And thank the Gods we do change over time -- the very thought of staying the same as I was in my early 20s makes me cringe.

Indeed. If I stayed the same as when I was a teen I would be 200 pounds and socially awkward.

That reminds me: I can't seem to find my "Eat It, Grandpa!" T-shirt. Now I don't know what to wear today.
Hey, Kids! My "Cranky and Kitschy" collage art is now viewable on DeviantArt! Drop by and tell me that I sent you. *updated often!*

How about making a shirt from all the Threeboot Legion panels that used that line

That would be more fun than actually re-reading the Threeboot!
Just kidding.
Kinda sorta.

Yeah, I have so far not had any desire to reread the Threeboot.

I revisit the first 10 or so issues every now and then

Although I can concede that the early issue of the Threeboot had their moments, I find it ultimately unforgivable that the Postboot was wiped out. Even though DnA had dragged the Postboot Legion through the mud during the latter part of their run, there was still no justification for another reboot IMO.

Well, I assumed that went without saying. I've found myself able to enjoy it if I don't view it within the context of yet another iteration of the Legion but rather as the only Legion out there.

I started reading it with an open mind, without thinking about the loss of my beloved Postboot Legion. As Kappa said, that helps. But Fanfie is correct in that the Postboot Legion could easily have been salvaged. Check out Fanfie's thread for some ideas.
And even with myself not thinking about the Postboot Legion, while reading the Threeboot... The Threeboot just ultimately wasn't all that good. I lost interest after the first two or so years.

I thought there were a fair number of good ideas, and the first few issues were really strong, but then Waid lost it completely. I still suspect the internal politics at DC had a lot to do with it.

I agree that a lot of what went wrong with the Threeboot is down to TPTB at DC, but I simply don't buy that Waid had no other option than to press the reset button again.
That said, I think he was right to press the reset button back in 1994. I love the Postboot Legion more every day.

Well, I do think that in order to tell the story he wanted to tell, there was no way to do so within the context of the postboot Legion, and so I have no problem whatsoever in his introducing a new version of the Legion to tell that story.
I'm not sure the reset button ever *has* to be pushed, and even though I think there were *a lot* of mistakes in that version of the Legion (both pre-DnA and in the second half of DnA's run) I think Simone did a good job of showing the potential for the postboot Legion to carried on past the point at which DnA left it. I think the Titans/Legion special was one of the stupidest things ever, as there was no need to *explain* the move to a new continuity.
I, for one, would be happy to read continuations of any version of the Legion, or a completely new continuity, assuming that the stories are actually *good*. And, as far as I'm concerned, they can all co-exist.

Continuity can be a harsh mistress! At this point with DC and the Legion, I just think "The past stories happened. They may not have happened to this version of _____________ I am reading, but they did happen."

And, as far as I'm concerned, they can all co-exist. Oh, the Postboot was far from perfect, but I think that many things about it have never been bettered by any of the versions before or after; I'm thinking particularly about the characterizations of Tasmia, Luornu, and Shvaughn. And I agree about the co-existing. Having said that, I don't have any interest in continuations of Pre-Crisis, 5YL, Threeboot, or Retroboot.

True! Simone's story was pretty good, and even introduced two promising Cadets (and potential Legionnaires) Nightwind and Infectious Lass. And I also agree about the Titans/Legion Special, which was a terrible, terrible story. And said Special also destroyed the Postboot Legion's universe, bah! Plus, the ending with Shikari appearing in a new reality never went anywhere.

Why all this talk about the Legion? You would think this is a message board about the Legion.

I hear DC has a new book on the way: The Travesty of Super-Heroes.
"Everything about this is going to feel different." (Saturn Girl, Legion of Super-Heroes #1)

Almost any comic book they publish now would qualify for that.
