Dickens is closest to one. The other does have a similar figure already guessed and is an older historical figure.

1. Martin Luther King, Jr. "He used the principles of non violence to win civil rights for his people."
2. Albert Einstein. "He changed our way of looking at how the universe works."
3.
4.
5. Joan of Arc. "She led troops to free the people of France and was wrongfully burned at the stake as a witch."
6. Abe Lincoln: "He saved the Union and freed the slaves."
7. Superman. "He rocketed to Earth as a baby from a dying world and grew up to fight for truth, justice and the American way."

Yay! on Shakespeare

1. Martin Luther King, Jr. "He used the principles of non violence to win civil rights for his people."
2. Albert Einstein. "He changed our way of looking at how the universe works."
3.
4. William Shakespeare. "He built the groundwork for modern literature through his plays and poems."

Picasso

Isaac Newton
Galileo
Michelangelo
Helen Keller
Van Gogh
Raphael
Charles Dickens
Aristotle
Jules Verne
Socrates
Confucius
Mark Twain

That leaves a remaining, and very old, figure to get.

Er... emphasis on the "ish"!

New question:

Why did District Attorney Daniel Dyce agree to take the place of his lookalike friend Jacob Horn in prison, and what happened as a result?

Jacob Horn was innocent?

And Daniel became a superhero?

Jacob Horn was not innocent.

Daniel Dyce *did* become a super-hero, but there's more to it than that.

Oh, that was in Unexpected Prison Tales #13 from ACG

Horn was secretly the villain Hornblower and Dyce went into prison to not only get the name of the criminal mastermind who hired him, but to a young lady who had been wrongly convicted for a crime. If Dyce could only get someone inside to confess to the crime, she would be free.

Dyce, as Hornblower, got a lot of blowing practice during his time in prison, as you can imagine. What with it being the Christmas issue and Horn being in both the choir and the band. But although he got information on the Mastermind, the evil Mr Toboggan, he couldn't save the young lady from execution.

From that day Dyce saw the lottery of justice. He embodied that into a pair of dice. He would roll the dice when he defeated a villain, with the number equating to their grisly fate. Daniel Dyce became the Diceman.

An additional bit of comics history: Issue 14 of Unexpected Prison Tales was heavily rewritten at the last minute. The publisher had put in a Diceman poll. In it, youngsters could write in with their favoured forms of execution for each die roll result. As the Diceman strip referred to the poll as a marketing gimmick, it had to be pulled too.

No, you're thinking of Dennis Dyce and Bobby Horn, stars of Unexpected Prison Tales, though it's an easy mistake to make!

Hint: These characters appeared in a comic that was not originally published by DC Comics, though has been *reprinted* by DC Comics!
