Okay, so I have to admit... Tangleweb was one of my favorite contributions of the reboot to Legion lore.

A giant spidery-thingie that sucks out your brains and uses them to become smarter? I'm so there!

I always thought it would be cool to see the Legionnaires in a bit more of a horror-setting, and Tangleweb was kind of the perfect foe for this!

he was, but it's hard to be scared when you have twelve years old fighting the battles (with their tongues on display for all to see...)

It's the "become smarter" aspect that sets Tangleweb above your everday giant brain-sucking spider. I'd agree it didn't come off as real horror given the context, but someone like Dennis Calero could certainly up the creepy factor.

I wonder if Tangleweb could have been defeated by baiting him with a particular type of brain - maybe somebody with extreme arachnephobia.

I was actually wondering if Brainy would be especially appealing to him.

Maybe he would stalk particularly beneficial prey, or attempt to lure such into his territory.

Rereading The Magic Wars, I saw there was a scene in which Wildfire and Dawnstar encounter giant spiders in space. Wildfire blasts them and, being magic, they disappear. Perhaps with all the wild and crazy stuff going on at that time, one of the spiders was transported into the Earth-247 realm, or whatever one the Reboot inhabited, and became Tangleweb as a result of Wildfire's energy blast. Sort of a reverse Peter Parker.

What might make Tangleweb even cooler is if, once sucking the brains out of his victims, he could use them as zombie soldiers!

One wonders if Tangleweb was a decendant of the SPIDER-GUILD race (see old 80s OMEGA MEN issues from # 26-on), my most hated of space-races right up there, even surpassing (!!), the Dominion!

In a LSH elseworlds fanfic I wrote, FOOD FOR THE SPIDER-GUILD he is!

(sorry, I feel a need to promote myself lately!)

I actually love that last idea.

Tangleweb's a villain that's just begging for a story guest-starring Insect Queen... Lana or a Johnsboot L'onna.

Tangleweb had potential for sure.

Who knows where and when he might turn up again?

Yay! Thanks for the plug, Fanfie. Of course, it must be made known that the heavy lifting is c/o Fanfie! My contribution is on the ideas and critique!

But thanks for giving me equal billing, so nice of you!

You're very welcome, Ibby. If not for you, I'd still be struggling with the plot mechanics.
