Oh! Oh! I know the answer to this one! It's... yes.

Lady Oscar, a.k.a. the Rose of Versailles, was a 70s shoujo manga written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda. Originally, the story was about Marie Antoinette, but Oscar proved so popular she became the main character in the anime adaption.

Oscar is woman raised as a boy by her father, intending for her to lead the Royal Guard. Oscar was incredibly popular with women, and the series is considered one of the most influential in the shoujo AND yuri genres. For those who don't know, yuri refers to stories about romantic relationships between women.

This post pretty much says it all: http://yamino.tumblr.com/post/76754065000/lady-oscar-commander-of-the-french-royal-guard

So now it's Paladin's turn again.
