Reached Archive #10 this weekend. We did not take long to rush through #9, which felt kind of fitting as the stories felt so rushed as well.

Now what a time were the early 70s for the Legion? Stories that seemed too short to matter, that hinted at larger subjects like drug addiction and poverty but never really hitting the mark.

The kind of conclusion my daugther came up with was "Why are these stories always just about one hero, where are all the others???" Kind of fitting as well.

I mean, there were some important things going on, like Superboy suddenly resigning or Tenzil dating Violet, and some elements like the totally rushed Eltro Gand story or the first mentioning of the Talus junkyard would be important later during 5YL. They even tried to keep up with Legion Lore by mentioning Chams dimension lost Princess love or the brother of the man Star Boy once killed. But all in all, it seemed like too little too late.

At one moment, you had Adventure Comics Twoparters like "12 hours to live", still a good read, a short time later you had the "Mystery Legionnaire" by Cary Bates (whose debut issues really seemed terrible). Wow.

Funnily enough, the best story to me was the only Twoparter, the "Tyrant and the traitor". Showed that they need more space and more characters to work. The Action Run ended with Mon-El being sworn in as the new Legion Leader, left with no book to lead the Legion in.

When the Superboy stories began, they even seemed to contradict the Action stories. Matter Eater Lads family seemed all different, Ultra Boy became leader again only to see Mon-El struggle with being "reelected"...

The good thing is that the new costumes are now popping up nearly every issue, though I have that feeling that my daugther actually loves the classic style better... smile
