Which two Legionnaires were with him when he made his attempt? (others were nearby, but as Brande said he needed to avoid distractions, only two plus the doctor were right beside him)

Hmm... I hadn't given thought to Chameleon Boy posing as Saturn Girl. I can't think of an instance in the 70s, but if there is one that would technically count.
I will confirm Sun Boy is correct. The other Legionnaire I'm thinking of though is female and appeared on-panel in the costume, in front of Saturn Girl no less.

Chaim has it! Dirk dressed in Imra's bikini the same issue she debuted it I believe, testing Jeckie's psychological profile. Well done Chaim! I could remember the scene, but not who was in it or the issue.
As for this one, we saw Imra and Garth married in an alternate universe really. I think they were kidnapped by a guy. I remember he had one of those big throne rooms, where there never seems to be anything to do. No wonder they're cranky all the time.
