I was reading v3 #50. The Infinite Man has just battled the Time Trapper, and the Legionnaires have returned home battered, minus (another) one of Lu’s bodies.

But the last page shows us the Time Trapper’s robe. The thing is, I thought he was in it. Now looking at the picture, it’s just a robe hanging on a rock.

But why did I think that? Perhaps it’s something to do with the way Giffen drew the character? He’s always hunched over rocks, or lurking the shadows of wastelands. The panel above is from v4 #4, but he was equally like that in v4 #13 too.

v4 #13 also gave us a very unlikely Trapper survival, mandated by the Superman office, only to have him absorbed by Glorith. So, perhaps I just took v3 #50 to be another example of that.

Still, it seems a bit obvious now, and certainly, the story make more sense (I had always though it a little odd there)

Any other Legion misapprehensions? Feel free to add them, or link to the thread if it’s been covered before…

In the panel on the left, it does look like he's wearing the robe over his head--probably to hide his terrible acne problem. Alcohol rubs are so hard to find at the End of Time.

The first Legion comic I ever bought was LSH v.1 # 1, reprinting "The Lad Who Wrecked the Legion" from Adventure 328. There's a panel where Sun Boy brags to Command Kid that he, Sun Boy, can "warm things up" while a thought balloon shows an image of Sun Boy in full costume, radiating light. In the thought balloon image, Dirk's collar is miscolored yellow, yet in the rest of panel, which shows only the upper portion of his torso, his collar is red.

This led to me believe that Dirk wasn't wearing his costume in the panel, only an ordinary red shirt. For a long time, I wondered why he wouldn't be wear his costume. Perhaps he didn't like it. Perhaps he didn't feel worthy of it. Perhaps he only wore it when he was "on duty," like a Cub Scout or Boy Scout.

This impression of him persisted even when I read subsequent stories in which his collar was colored correctly. It took me a while to realize his collar should always be red.

I thought that for years as well!
