Speaking of Wonder Woman (not that you guys specifically were but rather, society in general) here's a question about her massively potential-squandering crossover epic, War of the Gods.
Each Direct Market issue of the series contained four mini posters by the always awesome Chris Sprouse that showcased various characters who were featured in the series.
Please name those characters. (Usual rules about limiting your guesses to the number of characters unidentified apply.)
1. 2. 3. 4.a. 4.b. 4.c. 4.d. 4.e. 4.f. 5.a. 5.b. 6.a. 6.b. 6.c. 6.d. 7.a. 7.b. 7.c. 7.d. 7.e. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14.a. 14.b. 15.a. 15.b. 15.c. 16.
So that's 32 characters to get and I will start the CLUE ball rolling straight away:
CLUE #1: 13 of the 32 characters are in the public domain.

I have this one somewhere. I think I bought the first issue, and then picked up the rest years later. I'm not sure if I read them. But I would have got them for the Perez covers. A huge waste of potential there.
Wonder Woman Hippolyta Fury Son of Vulcan Donna Troy
Captain Marvel Black Adam Shazam Doctor Fate Hermes
Ares Circe Hades Zeus Poseidon
Deimos Phobos Ice Aquaman Superman
Hercules Mercury Pariah Flash - Jay Garrick Hawkman
Set thoth Jupiter Hephaestus Aphrodite
Maxi Zeus Quetzalcoatl

The Perez covers certainly were beautiful. It's a shame the story was so disjointed and nonsensical. I remember thinking at the time that I probably just didn't understand it because I hadn't read many of the tie-in issues. But I read a retrospective review of it recently and apparently, even with those tie-in issues it made no sense!
I've heard that George Perez has been quite outspoken about how DC dropped the ball in their management of this series (and there certainly were glaring errors - I remember whole pages where the panels had been laid out incorrectly) but I wonder if it wasn't just a mix of poor editorial oversight and a writer who wasn't ready to tell such a sprawling crossover epic by himself that did it in.
Anyhoo,
1. Wonder Woman 2. Circe 3. Captain Marvel 4.a. 4.b. Zeus 4.c. Hercules 4.d. 4.e. 4.f. Mercury 5.a. Ares 5.b. 6.a. 6.b. 6.c. 6.d. 7.a. 7.b. 7.c. 7.d. 7.e. 8. 9. 10. 11. Superman 12. 13. Black Adam 14.a. 14.b. Hawkman 15.a. Ice 15.b. 15.c. 16. Troia
20 characters to guess!
CLUE #1: 13 of the 32 characters are in the public domain.
NOT: Hippolyta, Fury, Son of Vulcan, Shazam, Doctor Fate, Hermes, Hades, Poseidon, Deimos, Phobos, Aquaman, Pariah, Flash (Jay Garrick), Set, Thoth, Jupiter, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Maxi Zeus, Quetzalcoatl.

Another great question Blacula. 7 of the remaining 9 characters are not super-heroes, although 2 of that 7 have often been depicted as 'anti-heroes'. 7 CLUE #4: Only 1 public domain character left. I'll go with some villains this time. As Black Adam led a Suicide Squad mission:-Deadshot Captain Boomerang Enforcer Psycho Pirate (possibly gone in Animal Man by then, but I recall whiny Pariah being part of this) A couple of Antiheroes:-Amanda Waller (debatably and going with that Suicide Squad guess) ...um.. the '90s were full of people with guns and pointy things instead of limbs...I've tried Gardner...Lobo HeroesNightshade (again with the suicide squad) Julia Kapatelis (Ibby's gone with good guesses on the wonder woman supporting cast and J'Onn and Fire) Public DomainMars (in league with Ares and I've tried Jupiter already)

I was waiting for someone to notice that a few of the posters had related characters grouped together. I was waiting for someone to notice that a few of the posters had related characters grouped together. Three please! Sorry, I was just answering a question from last Thursday. What da ya mean, "slow" And yes, Lobo seems so out of place but he actually played a mediumish role in the event IIRC (editorially mandated I'm sure). No doubt sales perked up with that decision too, and that's what it's about. I've always felt he outstays his welcome very quickly if not handled well.... L.E.G.I.O.N. JLA ... then he was in the Quiet Darkness in the TMK run...busy boy. Each Direct Market issue of War of the Gods contained four mini posters by the always awesome Chris Sprouse that showcased various characters, most of whom were featured in the series. I was just remembering that I picked p a series called Hammerlocke. A lot of that was to do with the Chris Sprouse art. Mister Freeze Two Face

All those random non-DCU DC mini-series' intrigue me. I was round at my folks today, and looked out Hammerlocke for later reading ...nips off to get first issue through... leaves LW to it's own devices... returns... puts on shocked expression at the depravity LW got up to in only a minute...cleans up LW's mess....again... It's cover dated 1992 and the strapline is "Tomorrow's superhumans are here!" So I'd say that it was out to get those Legion fans that didn't find TMK to their taste There's your standard older alpha male leader (see Atari Force etc. ), a Dawnstar figure, an Obsidian look a like and a Western character. They are in front of what could be a Time Beacon. Edit: Oops! Just spotted the update post. 4 solo titles seems like lots. But then, there's the recent Rebirth. Then there was DCNu. So, if they had even one series back when they started they'd have three. The next DC Event Villain should be The Churner The only "popular" DC anti hero I remember from around the '90s was Deathstroke in Titans Hunt. He did have his own book back then, and I know he was in one of the recent relaunches too. Not sure if he counts as Bronze Age (due to me being fuzzy on the dates of that Age).

Deathstroke it is! I don't remember him having much of a role in the series but I think it probably came out around the same time his first solo did, so he was probably riding a wave of popularity then (as he seems to be doing again now). I'm iffy on when the 'Ages' are supposed to begin/end too but I usually just consider Crisis a good end-point for the Bronze Age. And here is a page showing all of the characters in their awesome Sprouse glory: https://crisisonearthprime.com/war-of-the-gods/mini-posters/Now I need to go pack for a flight! Your turn Thoth!

Yay!
I'll recharge and come back with a question shortly. Thanks for the link to the posters. I notice that there's a direct edition with them in it. I wonder if I got another version that didn't have them. Sprouse's art certainly has something distinctive about it.

Hmmm, can I ask how many there were? No, you must list all the villains there ever were! I did say table, and it wasn't a beer hall so that narrows it down to ... yeah fair enough I didn't count... Doctor Light Libra Lex Luthor Not: Joker; Sinestro I count another 7
