This is particularly sad for me because I follow Mark Evanier's blog, where his friendship with her and his championing her legacy has been a recurring subject. So I feel like she was a celebrity who was on my radar personally, as well as being affected by her work. Rocky and Bullwinkle has a very special place in my childhood memories. There's nothing else like it in my nostalgia file.
ETA: when people were complaining about the unusual number of celebrity deaths last year, I kept pointing out to them that our childhood idols were all older than us, and we've reached the point that they are starting to die with regularity. So I think 2016 is the new normal for my age bracket, and I doubt it's going to let up until there's simply not enough stars we grew up with left to maintain the pace.
