Slartibartfast: You must come with me. Arthur Dent: Who are you? Slartibartfast: What? No. My name's not important. You must come with me, or you'll be late. Arthur Dent: Late for what? Slartibartfast: Well, um, what's your name, Earthman? Arthur Dent: Dent. Arthur Dent. Slartibartfast: Well, late as in *the late* Dentarthurdent. It's a sort of threat. You see? Arthur Dent: No.

My name is unimportant And my job you could call mean But I like the work and I do it well That's enough for me. I think there was a time when I Could do, and did, much more. I have dreams in which I captain the ship And hear the ocean roar.
I've lived alone for all I can remember That only means some six or seven years. I would rather be nobody else, I'm happy as I am. All I need is in my way And you see no one expects too much from me. People cry, but no one asks me to advise them. They want to know but they don't ask me how. That's for someone else and not for me, I don't know. Lucky me.
My friends think that I should be trying To find out who I was. But I feel that road would bring me pain And too much would be lost. How I am is how I'm meant to be now, Anyhow there's things I see more clearly Than those whose heads are searching in the clouds to make discoveries, And maybe fail to see What's on the ground beneath their feet, not hard to find. People cry, but no one asks me to advise them They want to know but they don't ask me how, That's for someone else and not for me, I don't know. Lucky me.

Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren't lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live.

We know that as a Bob Monkhouse joke over here. I think car is plane in the Monkhouse version.

I've heard other comedians use that joke. I did a Google search to see who to credit and Goggle credited Will Rogers

My first search engine reply gives Bob Monkhouse. Search Engines are so eager to please local perspectives. There was a Kid's TV host over here that went on to try his hand at a number of other things later on in life to prolong his career. He got into a bit of bother when he tweaked other people's jokes and put them on social media.

There was a meme about Twitter users who merely retweet the original jokes of others. If all Twitter users were seated at the same table, they would just be saying the same thing in turn, but louder each time

The Spanish Armada was composed of 130 ships, 8,000 sailors and 18,000 soldiers, and bore 1,500 brass guns and 1,000 iron guns. The full body of the fleet took two days to leave port. It included twenty eight purpose-built warships, of which twenty were galleons, four galleys and four (Neapolitan) galleasses. The remainder of the heavy vessels were mostly armed carracks and hulks together with thirty-four light ships.

During the Siege of Leiden (during the 80 Years War), the Dutch lacked a significant army to defend against the Spanish, so they broke open some dams allowing the sea to (eventually) flood the countryside and the Navy to relieve the city.

The Navy Lark was a long running radio show on the BBC. It starred Leslie Phillips from the Carry On film and Jon Pertwee of Doctor Who fame.

He was in Event Horizon. It was a film that that drew from sources that weren't commercially successful. I don't know why they thought it would fare any better. A lot of money was spent on it too. I quite like it, and it's a shame there's a lot of footage shot that will never see the light of day.
