I've heard other comedians use that joke. I did a Google search to see who to credit and Goggle credited Will Rogers

My first search engine reply gives Bob Monkhouse. Search Engines are so eager to please local perspectives.

There was a Kid's TV host over here that went on to try his hand at a number of other things later on in life to prolong his career. He got into a bit of bother when he tweaked other people's jokes and put them on social media.

There was a meme about Twitter users who merely retweet the original jokes of others. If all Twitter users were seated at the same table, they would just be saying the same thing in turn, but louder each time

The Navy Lark was a long running radio show on the BBC. It starred Leslie Phillips from the Carry On film and Jon Pertwee of Doctor Who fame.

Jon Pertwee's son Sean currently stars as Alfred Pennyworth on Gotham.

He was in Event Horizon. It was a film that that drew from sources that weren't commercially successful. I don't know why they thought it would fare any better. A lot of money was spent on it too. I quite like it, and it's a shame there's a lot of footage shot that will never see the light of day.
