It wasn't the Hidden Fortress. There's loads of Kurosawa rip offs in there though. Flash Gordon themes too.

It wasn't Buck ROgers.
Hint: It's in a medium that's close to our hearts.

Weimar Republic fetish porn?! And Blacula has it. Lucas amassed quite a collection in his youth. It's not just pics you know, and that strong militaristic theme to the articles influenced the Empire and then lots of other... No wait... Blacula is at least in the right sort of geographical area...

I’m trying to think of some European comics creators...
Moebius?

I had French Comics down for a winning answer, so that's close enough for me. Valerian by Pierre Christin & Jean-Claude Mézières has all this and more. Some of them can be found detailed here... https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/valerian-comics-star-wars-inspiration#Lucas is the Grant Morrison of Movies.

Now I need to finally get around to watching that recent 'Valerian' movie and see if there are any similarities.
This may be a little obscure but:
At which 'Star Wars' universe location did Willrow Hood live?

Now I need to finally get around to watching that recent 'Valerian' movie and see if there are any similarities. I just watched it, which sort of prompted the question. I've been picking up on my Euro comics too of late, so expect (or brace yourself ) to see some reviews of those too. I didn't see many familiar things in it. I think they might have wanted to have the distance from Star Wars so that they didn't get accused of copying anything. At which 'Star Wars' universe location did Willrow Hood live? Ewok Village?

More specifically Cloud City but close enough! Willrow Hood was a minor background character in The Empire Strikes Back who became a cult favorite and got an action figure and a comics back story and everything. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Willrow_Hood/Legends

Aw. No character, however small a part, goes unloved.
The new Q is already on it's way from a galaxy far, far away... you might want to get some coffee and do a bit of shopping while it gets a move on.

What did the cessation of the Death Star's turbo lasers firing signify?

Nope. The turbo lasers across the whole station went ominously quiet.

They went quiet just before they fired? (I think I'm getting confused - did the lasers themselves stop or did they just go silent?)

The lasers stopped, rather than they continued fired but more quietly (as if the idea of there being no sound in space had caught up with them) and with good reason. They didn't go quiet just before they fired again.

Nope. The weapons could have continued firing.

It was because Lord Vader was personally pursuing the X-Wings in his own TIE Fighter, wasn't it? (I.E., so as not to hit Vader with friendly fire.)
Still "Lardy" to my friends!
