Yeah,, I wonder if that story inspired part of the Jon Kent one.
What I remember most about that story was the anguish experienced by Pete Ross, Jon, and Superman. That was heavy.

This is when they get attacked by Validus and Mano, right? hm. that wasn't what I was thinking of, but if you or someone else can cite the story or issue number... I'll give it to you a clue though: the instance i was thinking of was in the Reboot (naturally) and the third pair was not a traditional Legion couple. Heck, they weren't a couple at all, period.

You got it - so clearly that I think you read the story  or at least process of elimination, as Chuck, Nura and Tenzil were the most major Preboot-Legionnaires-who-were-not-Reboot-Legionnaires (or immediately, in Nura's case) who still hung out with the team a lot... thinking back this probably wasn't the best question because the Legionnaires have gone to the beach other times, though I was hoping there wouldn't be any other time where only Garth/Imra and Tinya/Jo went with two other people.

While I've obviously read the story (I've read every Legion story, except for some odd-continuity ones since the new 52), I got this by method of elimination rather than by re-reading the story.
Who was voted to be Legion leader but was not allowed to serve in that position?
