Welcome to......

Kill This Thread XXX

The following rules were established by Kent Shakespeare at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:

The rules:

1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!

2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and response nses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.

3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.

4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.

Christy Marx, creator of "Jem and the Holograms" and writer of some of the best episodes of "G.I. Joe" and "Spider-Man 1981," also wrote an excellent comic book titled "The Sisterhood of Steel."

I'm a decade older than my husband. One of the areas where this shows is in our taste in cartoons. He's a big Jem and the Holograms fan. I watched with him and said, "Okay, this is the '80s version of Josie and the Pussy Cats."

I'm about five years younger than Rocky and about five years older than his husband. Which, I guess, explains why I'm a fan of both "Josie and the Pussycats" and "Jem and the Holograms." grin

Josie was based on Archie Comics' go-to artist Dan DeCarlo's wife. They even shared the same first name.

The Lil Archie series is a ret-con as both Betty and Veronica moved to Riverdale as teenagers. Riverdale is based on the town of Haverhill in Massachusetts. In the first issue Archie tells Betty to call him Chic. She doesn?t.

The name Marianas Trench makes me think of this artist I recently shared a song by in the Anywhere Machine forum.

The Marianas Trench is the deepest trench in the Pacific Ocean and the deepest spot of any ocean in the world. It is deeper than Mt. Everest is tall.

My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky

And there is nothing in this world that can ever change my love

When you're alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go downtown.
When you've got worries all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help I know downtown.

Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?
The lights are much brighter there
you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares

so go downtown
Things will be great when you're downtown
No finer place for sure downtown
Everything's waiting for you.

Haha! I never thought of that before but it actually matches with a real life experience of mine. I was travelling alone in Germany and one night wandering around Nuremburg I was trying to find my way back to my hostel and thought I had and was wondering why all the men were hanging around outside until I noticed the bright red light over the door, the large windows with vaguely seen female forms which were somewhat scantily clad and very quickly reversed my direction.

My mother told a story about a shopping trip she and a neighbor, Lucy took into Boston in the 1970s. At that time they tried to have all the adult shops in one area. It was called the Combat Zone and it was near the downtown shopping area. Heck just about everything in Boston is near each other.

Anyway my mother and Lucy stop for lunch and go into a restaurant. The hostess starts to take them towards the back but abruptly brings them back to the front. As Lucy is looking over the menu my mom sees a sign in the back. ?Rooms for rent by the hour?. She asked Lucy if she wanted to rent a room. They didn?t stay for lunch there.

My day was like 2 decades ago. so I think that counts. I mean, when I was growing up we still used floppy disks...

I sometimes wonder how much the new generation wonders what the heck the extremely common "Save" symbol is meant to represent.

In 1967 Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the first successful heart transplant. The first patient only lived 18 days. However the other first ten patients lived over a year, one for 13 years and another for 23 years.

I was born in '67
The year of Sgt. Pepper
And Are You Experienced?

Into a suburban heaven
Yeah it should've been forever
It all seems to make so much sense

But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
'Cause time flies

That will mean a new thread at some point.
