Mushrooms is correct! Brainy had told Supergirl that the spell required "toadstool hearts," and she brought him a can of mushrooms.

I try to suppress memory of that scene - pizza and hatch sealant? er.
and also - I wish I could say I had been canny enough re the animal / plant kingdom clue and fungi... but i forgot about it when guessing mushrooms! I was just going with ""well, what thing in the supermarket would be something you'd find in a magical brew?"
