Welcome to......
Kill This Thread XXXIV
The following rules were established by Kent Shakespeare at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:
The rules:
1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!
2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and response nses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.
3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.
4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.
Here's a history of our various felons, along with a few missed opportunities.....

[snerk] I'm not brave enough to do that with other people in the room. Also, I'm glad thoth jumped in because I wasn't going to start things off after the ruin I made of it last time. "Finally, one brave coward said, 'I can't go on. The heat is killing me. Let's start the fire here.' " -- Sam Levenson (from a kids' story about he and his buddies going on a camping trip in Central Park. I wish I could remember the name)

Also, I'm glad thoth jumped in because I wasn't going to start things off after the ruin I made of it last time. Ruin? Hardly! So the thread went on a bit longer after it had technically been won. Even the winner didn't notice!

I'd not be surprised if we had missed a kill post somewhere along the way before. Actually, we should all go back and check now, and report back in a couple of days. Things found in old kill threads include...
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."

Oooh, we could all investigate as a team. That does mean finding a corridor wide enough for us all to walk down, side by side, in the opening credits though...

For the one day of sunlight a year we call summer, designer sunglasses aren't worth the investment. Besides, if I was wearing them walking down that corridor, or anywhere inside, I'd just worry about bumping into things.

My boyfriend and I were talking about the same thing here. we?ve had at most 3 dreadful weeks a year of mid-30s temperatures. so no real need to buy an air conditioner just for those 3 weeks...

If those 3 weeks are impacting sleep, I might consider it. I'd not want the high temperature to get in the way of all the other reasons not to sleep.

The bedroom stayed cool, so it didn't impact sleep It did however, mean that I had to work in the bedroom, instead of in the living room...

Not so bad. I think I had put the fan on once last year. I could have worked from a different room/ floor and been fine though. Just easier to get the fan out.

I agree. Fan = one piece of equipment, versus moving the whole home office...

Glad to have the aircon here in Aus although being down south in Melbourne we don't get as much heat as some of the northern areas. Still when we get the wind from the dry northern interior it can reach high 30s and occasionally 40s so glad to have it then. We use it even more in reverse-cycle mode for heating in winter when it can have maximums of 10 or 12. Not cold by most northern hemisphere standards but cold enough for us.

Fortunately, it's been a while since I've had extra heaters on in winter. I had the boiler replaced over 2 years back. Delays meant that it was getting to December before it went in. It was quite mild, but having extra heaters to warm the place up was nice.

It went in just shy of 8 weeks after it was supposed to.

True. It failed at a decent time of year. Even with the extea 8 weeks, it was only slightly later than when one of the companies said they'd get around to putting it in. If I'd picked them, and they had been delayed...
While the north atlantic current lasts, it could be a lot worse here.

Living in Europe has made me realize how weird the weather can be. back home? it's hot and humid all-year round, and the temperature variation between the middle of summer and the "winter" is maybe 10 degrees Celsius.
Here in the Netherlands, I've experienced a week of polar cold snowfall followed by a week of spring temperatures!

The changing weather always provides an opening for a conversation.

Quite a conversation, indeed! For the past couple of pages, this has been (almost) "the Ibby and thothy convo thread"! I feel like an interloper!
