So, Geoff Johns has reportedly said at ComiCon that in Legion of Three Worlds, George Perez will draw "every Legionnaire ever."
Can he do it? How many characters is that, even? Well, let's run the tally and see how many characters we can come up with, even when we limit ourselves to three known universes (reboot, threeboot and rebooted-preboot):
1. Cosmic Boy - preboot, stick up his butt 2. Cosmic Boy - reboot, bigger stick up his butt 3. Cosmic Boy - threeboot, biggest stick up his butt 4. Saturn Girl - preboot, MILF hussey 5. #122, 'other Khund' is named Blood Claw.
131. Dream Boy - threeboot walk-on
I suspect that we're going to find that #46 and #48 are the same person, but that can wait upon the event.
Lots of missing names from the Five Year Gap and Five Years Later Legion, if we want them: Kent Shakespeare/Impulse, Karate Kid II/Myg, Nightwind, Crystal Kid, Atmos, Storm Boy, Visi-Lad, Calamity King, Echo, Celeste/Neon, Devlin/Reflex, Spider Girl/Wave.
From the reboot there's Magno, Monstress, Superboy II/Kon-El, Kid Quantum II.
Catspaw from the SW6 Legion.
The way I figure it, the Karate Kid and Luornu who died in Countdown were rescued from their original deaths in order to be sent back in time, so a) the consequences of their original deaths still exist in Johns's continuity, and b) that means that there's still a living Luornu in Johns's 31st century. I may be wrong, of course.

Y'know, there's ONE version of Valor that died. Dead. Never made it to the 30th Century. Glorith manipulated a buncha junk and killed him when he wouldn't play the game by her rules. Only after his death did a time traveling version of Lar Gand "take his place in history". That is, suffer through the Phantom Zone a second time! Now it seems the history of his solo title has gone the way of the Byrneboot Superman. Of course it was a part of massive group of time parodoxes.. paradoxii?..(the theme of that year's crossovers) and was subsequently ignored as if it had never happened at all. 101. Laurel Gand - TMK Supergirl stand in, part of John's boot? Oh please, oh please, oh please...

117. Computo - preboot, TMB 118. Dragonmage - preboot, TMB Preboot... Not TMK? Also count Dragonmage, reboot (Legionnaires #43, etc.) since you're getting non-Legionnaire versions too. Count reboot Jacques and you'll also get (assumably) a reboot Danielle Foccart. Bet you a stack of mint quality Adventure Comics that Perez draws two-thirds of "every Legion character" crammed in a pagespread.

One more thing... I'm not so sure if Perez would feature the non-canonical elements of Legion, like the honorary Legionnaires or the superpets (if alien beings are members, I guess animals are too...)

But since the other version of Valor was the SW6 time-sliced clone of the first version, they're actually the same version, just looped in time. And I think that the first part of his series, the world-seeding part, is potentially still in continuity. (Although I'm not sure how that would work, exactly.)

Don't forget White Witch! BTW, last week I didn't make it to my CBS on Wednesday because the sky opened up and we had some terrible thunder storms with hail, lightning etc. (Nasty day!) Anyway, I stopped by on Thursday instead, picked up my books and was at the counter, ready to check out when one of the employees says. "I know you're a big fan of George Perez so you might want to go over there (points towards the back of the store by the longboxes and action figures) and introduce yourself." As CJ would say "Whoa!" It was George Perez! I knew he lives in the area and is a regular at Acme Comics Superstore but I had never run into him. Anyway, I head over to him and introduce myself. George immediately lights up when I mention being a Legion fan and being thrilled that he will get to finally do a Legion project. He tells me about the 4 large binders of reference notes he has put together of every version of every costume of every Legionnaire ever!!! (His way of phrasing it ) And how he's bound and determined to get every single one of them into Legion of Three Worlds if it kills him. He also says he is having the most fun of his life doing this mini and that he can't wait to see the reaction to it from Legiondom. He thinks it will make everyone very happy! George and I chatted for a few minutes more about comics in general and then I excuse myself so he could get back to what he was doing. What an incredibly nice guy! As you all can imagine, this made my day!

As you all can imagine, this made my day! That is an awesome story. That is the equivalent of walking into a music store and one of the Beatles just happens to be in there, or a Video store and you just happen to run into Jack Nicholson(with the exception that they aren't as good at their craft as George Perez is at his). That must be an awesome experience. And all of your story seems to bear out everything I have ever read about George Perez, in that he said to be one of the nicest and most gracious guys to ever work in the industry and he is always extremely nice to the fans. George Perez is a gift to the comics industry...the man truly loves drawing comics. And he's also IMO, probably the greatest artist. He's definitely the most devoted to his craft. I read an interview with him recently where he was discussing the differences between Manapul and Kitson's versions of the Legion...heck, there are some diehard Legion fans that aren't that familiar with them right now...what a pro.

The only thing I am bummed out about with Perez is that he will never be the regular Legion artist and IMO, he was the guy tailor made to draw the Legion. He loves large casts, he is incredibly fast, he loves to draw extremely detailed backgrounds...and he's a huge fan of Curt Swan and you can often see influences of Swan in his artwork.
But at least we got him once...on what is arguably the most high profile Legion project ever.

But at least we got him once...on what is arguably the most high profile Legion project ever. You basically echo a comment he made during our conversation. His biggest regret is never having had the chance to be the ongoing Legion artist. He said he could never manage the schedule today and do it justice, that he's slowed down too much at his age...so he's putting everything he's got into this one project to make up for never having had the chance.

I tried to rip their soul out.I tried to make them forget Superman. But they won't.

Does Superboy's Legion count as yet another alternate team? Most of them are pretty close to the standard, but Shadow Lass manipulates magical 'darkforce' and Light Lass shoots lasers and Brainy and Lyle are 'brothers,' so it's got some differences...

I bet that George Perez will not draw this person:
Aria Campbell - Genesis - from The Quiet Darkness Saga with Furball (Timber Wolf/Brin Londo).
I wonder about Sun Girl...from the East Titans...Geoff had a plan of her as she was originally from 30th century and her name was Debbie or Deb Morgna....related to Sun Boy?
Mara Williams...and the others who stayed with Garridan Ranzz, Ives, younger Kent Shakespeare...
whoa too many to think about like the new Wanderers, reboot WorkForce/Heroes of Lallor, etc. argh!!!

I wonder why he invented Sun Girl when Inferno is supposedly still wandering around the 20th century.

I think not only is Perez going to work every incarnation of the Legion into this story...
I think he's going to work different eras of the same Legion into it.
I have a feeling Perez is going to draw the Adventure Era Legion and the Cockrum Era etc.
I mean he is a fan of the Adventure Era Legion and you can see the influence in his art right up to this day. I find it really hard to believe we won't see him do a version of the Swan era Legion, since I'm pretty sure I've seen him mention that as the most heavy influence on his work.
Besides...if anyone remembers, the first time L3W was mentioned, it was in the LS and it was mentioned as being past tense, as in it was something that happened in the Adeventure Era. So I think this is going to span time eras as well. Or at least have some flashbacks.
And I don't doubt for a second Perez intends to draw every Legionaire...
Like someone once described his work...if someone told George Perez to draw a shattered vase, he'd draw about 10 times more pieces than breaking the vase would actually create.
I don't think he'll work every minor supporting chacater or cameo into the book...but I definitely think he wants to work every Legionaire and major character into it.
Like he said...he's never going to get the chance to be the regular Legion artist...so he's going to make up for it with this mini. This is going to be awesome.
