Kantuu certainly could have been revived for a later story, given the sloppy manner in which he and his fellow djinns were disposed of. Luornu commanded him to return to his bottle "till the end of time" and all the bottles were put "safely on the moon".
A few options: the Time Trapper messes with the end of time and out comes Kantuu and his pals. The Magic Wars release them, overpowering the command given by Lu. When the moon blew up, they could at least have been displaced, rather than destroyed - to be discovered and let loose by someone else.

You have to love the cover. "The Thing in the Jar" is quite possibly the stupidest tag line ever. It's like the cover editor forgot to put any text on the cover and then, about 5 minutes before the deadline, realized he needed something dramatic. Hmmm . . . okay, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel are back. We can put that down. And then there's that genie thing . . . and genies come from jars . . . so, I know, "The Thing in the Jar." That sounds scary.
The only thing stupider would have been to write "The Guy from the Lamp."
