As large as the Legion's cast is, there are bound to be a few bad apples posing as heroes, or heroes who have an inflated concept of their own heroism. Atmos fit that bill well, and I thought it was gutsy of Levitz to have a "planetary champion" do those nasty things. In that respect, Atmos filled a story purpose, but wasn't an important character himself.
So, no fan of the character here, though I am a fan of what Levitz did with the character.

When did Atmos rape Dream Girl? Was Matthew referring to the incident that took place when they were both under Universo's mind control?

During the Magic Wars, it was revealed that Atmos had some kind of will-dominating power, and this is used to explain why Nura fell for him. Basically her mind was manipulated, and that is why she followed him to Xanthu.

At the risk of putting myself way out there, I liked Atmos. He was a knob-head, for sure, but I enjoyed the storyline with his 'romance' with Dream Girl. His 'force of will' power was strong enough to make Universo consider him dangerous to the point of imprisoning him with Dreamy, Saturn Girl, Brainy and Cham, which I always found intriguing. He sports that cool Mohawk, and the airy armpits were unique, if nothing else. I always thought he would be a good throwaway Legionnaire, like Mano fodder or something. His conflict with BION was one of my favorite TMK moments.

I liked Atmos as well but I always knew as a kid he was an anti-hero.
I think he was suppossed to look "cool". I think to a degree we were suppossed to like him. I was young and I thought he could've been a great member. I've always liked the more confident/powerful members anyhow. Ultra Boy, Wildfire, Mon-El, Timberwolf, etc.
I guess he's the anti-bouncing boy? He has great powers, confidence but at the end of the day isn't a hero. Weren't there many stud superman like heroes back in the Adventure days that always wimped out or couldn't cut it?
Still his visuals were awesome. While mohawks don't look as cool in real life anymore they still ROCK in comics.
Personally I want more cocky superheroes with mohawks.
He was in the post-boot right? How was he in that?

The fact that it was Atmos who got wasted by BION was an example of why I loved TMK. A completely throwaway moment, unless you knew something about Legion history, in which case it was GOLDEN.
I am, however, very sorry that someone beat me to the armpits comment. Was it Giffen that de-pitted him, or someone else?

It was part of his original design so I guess we have to blame Greg LaRocque. What were you thinking, Greg?

He wasn't in much. He got "lost" in the original Amazers story when Lee Moder drew a completely different character (Atmos having cameoed earlier in Lgs 0), and Atom'X was rapidly devised when there was no time to redraw it.
Other than that, there were signs of a rivalry with Star Boy in LSH102, and he was pessimistic and angry in LW4. Otherwise, just cameos.

Me, I never bought that whole "Dreamy was controlled by Atmos" stuff.
I'm not denying he may have had will-dominating powers, but I *am* denying that Nura was dominated by them.
She wanted to be close to Star Boy after he left her. She regretted her actions that had led to that.
I have always felt that the entire Atmos thing was Dreamy's way of getting to Xanthu without looking like a Thom-stalker. And when the time was right, she punched Atmos out, all angry about never-before-mentioned will domination powers while he looked like he had just woken up on Bizarro World, all flabbergasted and stuff.
