IrfanView does not have spyware or viruses! I would not recommend any tool that was distributed this way. And I wish you had told me your concerns privately first -- I would have been happy to help, and I still am.
I'm truly sorry if you have spyware or virus problems, but IrfanView is one of the most frequently downloaded freeware programs on the entire Internet, and the author has been scrupulous about not allowing it to be corrupted. It has one of the least intrusive setups (with the system registry) of any program I've ever seen.
I respectfully suggest that any spyware/malware or virus warnings you may have gotten are from another source. Please run a check on your own files with your antivirus program, and on your firewall, if you have one.
Anyone who downloads the file from the official site's mirror locations will not be getting a bad file. That's all I can say. I installed the IrfanView v3.95 file last week (the current version) and have had no problems or alarms whatsoever.
I did, though, take these steps, as I do with almost all downloaded programs, even upgrades:
~ I ran my McAfee VirusScan on the installation files before they installed, even with their being from a trusted source. (And the Tucows shareware site has never given me a bad file in a decade.) I also scanned the IrfanView folder after installation.
~ I ran BOTH of the major spyware/malware detection programs, Ad-Aware Personal and Spybot, available free for personal use, as part of my every-ten-days check.
Everyone needs to use both kinds of tools actively to be safe with using downloaded software, especially freeware and shareware. It's a matter of your self-protection!

I just ran across a link to another free image hosting site at linkfilter.net and thought it would appropriate to share here. I haven't used it yet but once I get around to it I'll post my thoughts on it. If anyone here already uses it or knows anything about it please share.

Just a note. The Pixia web site can now be found here. There's a new version out, too, although I haven't noticed much difference. (Although half my filters disappeared.)
