I thought people might enjoy an addendum to the Legion World HOT 100—a new list which ranks those who have posted themost in the previous month. The advantages of this list are twofold: 1) It ranks only those who are currently posting, and 2) it allows posters who are not in the Hot 100 to be acknowledged for their efforts.
This list is still in its experimental stage. At present, I monitor posting only down to No. 150 for the HOT 100 list, which means only those who have posted more than 446 times overall are listed herein. I plan to monitor down to No. 180 or so (300 overall posts) for next month to see if there’s any others might be included. (Why 150 or 180? I figure I should cut off the number somewhere, and 300 or 400 posts really does mark an impressive achievement and/or commitment to LW.)
Another feature that is up in the air is the number of rankings. I'm not set on 40. This list might be confused with the Top 40 in the Hot 100, and, the further down we go, the fewer the posts and the greater number of ties (which, to me, dilutes the significance of any ranking). A list of 30 or 35 rankings might make better sense.
Let me know what you think. Do you prefer this list to the HOT 100? In addition to it? (I don’t know if I’m willing to commit to doing both lists in 2013, but I may turn one or the other over to an interested successor.) If this list continues, I’ll include the usual stats such as last month's position, chart appearances, and highest postion.
1. Invisible Brainiac—612 2. Eryk Davis Ester—534 3. Kent Shakespeare—286 4. Dev – Em—256 5. Power Boy—252 6. MLLASH—218 7. Legion Tracker—198 8. Leap Year Lord—161 9. Quislet, Esq.—136 10. Cobalt Kid—132

*weeps* I'm...I'm never going to get on that list at the rate I'm going. NEEVAAAHHRRRRR.
As for whether I like it: I do. It's kind of fun to see who posted the most over the past month vs. who has posted the most EVER. That list probably isn't going to move as much as this one.
I want to like, send people cookies for being awesome posters. Everybody likes cookies, right? Right?

I remember back in the Summer of 2004 that Eryk and I both had 100 posts in one day for numerous days throughout the summer. Probably others did too, but the two of us actually noticed it and discussed it.
Ah, to have that kind of time right now to rock out on LW all day.

Knee jerk reaction (the only kind I ever have) says that, yeah, this type of list really does paint a better picture of current LW trends than your other Hot 100 list.
The down side is that, as Conjure Lass says, a couple of up-and-comers might get dropped with the cumulative post thresh-hold, but it seems like anything of that nature would be moot inside of a few months of someone joining, anyway.
I like it.

Thing is, with Conjure Lass, HWW could, if he so desired, could track her progress as well. Since she is new and has been posting quite a bot.

I do like both lists, for different reasons.
If you're only going to do one, then I would prefer to keep the other one, since this one can basically be calculated from the other one (at least for the posters on that list), whereas the reverse is not true. So in terms of the historical record, the other one is probably more valuable.
But, really, I would prefer both.

Oh, and Conjure Lass posted about 90-some posts in October, so she should be about 17th on this list.

#5 .... yep.
I vote for both. If i had to choose which seems I must ... I prefer the other one. but yeah it is kinda confusing to see half the list be posters not currently posting.

Thanks for pointing this out, Eryk. It calls attention to the fact that, no matter where I have the cut-off, posters who don't have many cumulative posts but who are a new to LW or are on a posting streak may be excluded.
I'm not prepared to monitor six or seven pages of poster listings (which is as far down as I'd have to go to include Conjure Lass for this month--sorry, CJ!), and, in the interest of fairness, if I include her I'd have to include others at least that far down, as well. So I'm not sure how to solve this problem--if indeed it is a problem.
New posters sometimes post a lot and then taper off or disappear after awhile. This is perfectly normal for any message board or forum; however, I do feel that a Hot 100 or Top 40 list should imply some sort of long-term commitment from posters (which is one reason why the history of the other list is so valuable--it shows that a lot of posters really were or continue to be committed to LW for the long-haul.
(And no jokes about LW being an institution, please! )
And besides, as Conjure Lass herself points out, she may be entering the top 150 or 180 (or 200, as I've now extended that list) within the next month or two, so that would enable her to have a smashing debut!

You touch on another advantage of this list: it's far easier for posters move up and even hit Number One. (No offense to Quis, but we all know he's not going anywhere for awhile. )
The Hot 100 evolves slowly, which is a good thing. It conveys a sense of stability and historical gravitas. But it's also very difficult for posters to enter and move up that list, unless they post just to increase their post counts, which, we all know, is a no-no.

I'm hoping to break 250 relevant posts by December! If so i'm breaking out the champagne, baby!
