If all goes well, I'll be upgrading this message board from version 6.5 to 6.7 on Sunday, Feb. 8th. 2004.
What does that mean to you? Or how does that affect you?
Well, first I'll have to revert the board to it's original, non-modified form. That may create some odd looking posts here or there (smilies/colors/sizes/etc. will revert to written codes) and some of the links (calendar, games, & album) will vanish. Each of those functions will still exist seperate from the board but any shared access with the board that that function had will be gone. Also, no data (i.e. Members info or posts) will be impacted. Only how you view or access it.
Then, I'll upgrade to 6.7. It should be automated, painless, and error free (I'm told ).
Once it's done and tested, I'll begin re-modifying. I believe that all the mods we are using have versions ported to 6.7 already, so it'll just be a matter of time to restore things to normal. Barring any unforseen problems or difficulties, of course.
Why do this? If it's not broke why fix it?
Because it'll add new functionality. The board will have new, more, better features than we have now. It'll be more stable and work more smoothly. *crosses fingers*

Just checking - will it recount the posts? I'm just recalling last time that happened, when everyone "lost" posts that had been deleted/etc, but had still previously been counted.
Oh yeah, and how much downtime are you expecting while the upgrade takes place?

Not sure on either count. I'm going to test it out in a secret loaction first.

Bad news for the post conscious among us, the Upgrade will most likely revert your post counts to actual "live" posts. That means any deleted posts that you may have will be deducted from your total.
Sorry about that.

Oh. And it should take a couple of hours for the upgrade. Then sporatic closings for the hacks and other maintenance.

Alright! So only the posts that have already been deleted will be missing from the post counts? That shouldn't be too bad! (At least not for me...)
Thanks Gary! I hope this isn't TOO much work...
