A new episode, a new thread. Here is the synopsis and preview images I received from the WB for the conclusion to the two part season premier.

"Legion of Super Heroes" concludes its two-part season premiere, entitled "The Man From The Edge Of Tomorrow," on September 29 at 11:00 a.m. ET/PT as part of the Kids' WB! Lineup on The CW Network. In the episode, the Legion has returned from the 41st century with Kell-El, a genetically-enhanced Superman clone. But Imperiex, the destroyer of galaxies, has reached the 31st century first -- and unleashed all of the Legion's greatest enemies. To restore order and combat this near-invincible foe, the Legion will once again turn to the past for help in the form of an older, more mature Superman with far greater grasp of his powers.

This was a phenomenal episode -- possibly the best episode yet, though it has a lot of competition. The Chuck/Lu scenes were very sweet. And I applauded my ass off when Superman-X showed up to save the day.

I just wish we'd seen more of Blok or the other Legionnaires imprisoned on Takron-Galtos. And where was Ultra Boy?

I particularly liked what happened to Matter Eater Lad after he ate the Emerald Eye. A reference to his eating the Miracle Machine back in the day.

Oh, and who caught the reference to Chameleon Boy's "rich father?"

ANOTHER SPOILERS ALERT....

loved the 2nd episode....and saw a new look on Shrinking violet's costume - like that design. cool one. Yeah I wonder where is Ultra Boy?

Poor Saturn Girl - got KOed by Esper Lass. Cham - *snickers* he gets ignored and not appreciated so went on fighting Ronn-Karr (somehow I kept thinking that it should be Beast Boy who should be there instead of Ronn Karr...hmmm).

Trip now Duo will get a karate lesson soon from a certain best combat fighter in DC Universe.

Swell episode!

Some big Legion guns down for the count, HQ in ruins, Computo sabotaged and the Legion cruiser blown to smithereens -- now, that's what I call upping the ante! I bet the new ship will serve as a mobile HQ as well as a transport.

I'm glad they didn't resolve the Duo Damsel situation and wrap everything up in a neat, little package. The Supermen didn't hog all the screen time, either, leaving room for some good character moments for Duo, Bouncie, Lightning Lad and Phantom Girl, as well as Esper and the Empress. Cham is still an irritant but at least he gave Ron-Karr a run for his money.

I hope taking Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and Colossal Boy out of the game for a while means we'll get to spend more time with some of the lesser seen Legionnaires. Tenzil shouldn't have to leave so soon, though. A little insanity never hurt anybody.

Okay, seriously, why isn't anyone talking about this episode? This was probably the best episode so far. Everything from the fight scenes, explosions, and character interactions was...dare I say it...SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME! These would have to be some of the best moments...

Matter-Eater Lad eating Emerald Empress's eye

The legionnares at the hospital. I like how this show makes it clear that just because these people have superpowers doesn't mean they are invincible(Or at least that's how I see it)

The Legion: Superman!
Kell-El: What!?!

Superman's reunion with the Legion. Awww.
BB/Duo Damsel moments. Double awwwww.

Brainy:This is going to hurt. *SHIP EXPLODES*

And of course... THE BATMAN REFERENCE!

There are a just a few concerns...

They should cut it out with the "NOOO"'s, it gets kind of annoying after the first few times.

Not really caring about Chameleon Boy for the moment, but hopefully that will change over the course of the season.

I also hope Saturn Girl wakes up within the next couple of episodes, because if they plan on keeping her in a coma through the whole season, that would really suck. And there's also the issue with the destroyed HQ, a nearly burned down Metropolis, all that stuff.

Next week: A TIMBERWOLF EPISODE!

I did like this episode much better than the first part.

Although, I was thinking while watching "Why isn't someone, say Duo Damsel, trying to free the others in the cells?"

Was that really Ron-Karr? I thought it was Chameleon Chief.

I love how this season is one continual storyline.

Wow, the characterization is great! LL brooding over felled SG. I look forward to her awakening and having them express their undying love.

Alright, big ol' softy moment... my eyes watered when Duo Damsel stood in front of the mirror, attempting to simulate having a third. Thank you Chuck for offering to be their "third."

Can't wait til Dreamy is more than just a pretty face (and hair) in the background.

Hmmm.... the ad for next week's "Cry Wolf" episode reminds me of the Kolins cover for this month's S&LSH comic.

Looking forward to more!

That's true of the comic book Ron-Karr but the toon version was depicted as a shape-shifter last season in the "Light Speed Vanguard" episode (I forget the actual title).

I liked this one better than the previous episode, but I still don't like the changes well enough. I think it would have been perfect sans the rebooting of everyone's costume and if it has been a few years why is Chameleon Boy the only new member. Wouldn't it have been easy to sneak Ultra Boy among them as well?

Anyway, I did find it interesting that the Light Speed Vanguard is now known as the Legion of Super-Villains, and that this is the cartoon debut of the Dominators.

Here's the clip to next week's Cry Wolf Promo. This week's clips will be up soon.

Oh, I didn't even think of Batman. I thought he was talking about Timber Wolf. I didn't think this Superman was supposed to have aged any more than the Legionnaires.

I saw Element Lad in the background looking different than he will in the comic. Potential oops there.

It was an awesome episode, though. It was great to see so many Legionnaires in action, even if a lot of it was in the background.

I only had one actual story gripe. Brainy needed to borrow someone's time bubble tech to go get Superman. Phantom Girl just happened to have one hiding in a secret pocket in her cape. If she just happened to have a time travel device in her pocket, why didn't any of the others? Is it because none of the Legionnaires who went to the 41st century had capes with secret pockets?

Other than that, I thought the episode rocked, even though I thought Saturn Girl should have whupped Esper good.

Well, Esper Bimbo did cheat. I thought it was an awesome episode to. My only gripe is that even though the prison raid team had Sunboy, Block and Tyroc they still got beat down. It seems that the writers have it so the Legion can't hold there own without Superman there. Where was Ultra Boy?!?! But other thtn that Great Epsiode!

One more gripe. Sorry to double post, but judging by next weeks promo , It seems that Timber Wolf will be a match for Superman X. Probably Classic Supes to. That should not be. [Frown]

I loved this episode!

Aside form the excellent story-telling (I loved the group-excitement at the idea of bringing back "classic" supes, as well as the Duo Damsel scenes, which many had lamented form ep. 1 was not made into a big enough deal, I think that was well-recitifed this ep. and nice to see they have left open that she can still get "white" back), I was quite-heartened to see them already featuring the other "peripheral" Legionnaires...in fact, I think they showed EVERY heretofore known LEgionaire in the episode! (Ultra Boy does not count, he never joined officially, and as I pointed out in the ep 1 thread, just putting him in and implying he joined in the interim would
waste a potentially great "joining up" story..)

Whoever drew the backgrounds should be commended, though they did seem after a spell to confuse Tyroc and Star Boy ...initially, in a brief instant, they are shown flying in together..later, only Tyroc can be seen in the cells, but when they all emerge to fight, Star Boy is show from behind (identifiable via cape) in roughly the same position that Tyroc had occupied, but no Tyroc. Yes, I had to freeze-frame to catch all that!

Of course, I could be missing someone...did anyone catch a Legionnaire shown previously but not here? (again, restricting that to MEMBERs...who aren't dead (sniff)...)

..and I didn't think of T-wolf. I wonder who he meant?

What was the deal about their "secrets"? Might we get a condensed version of "Secrets of the Legion" this season? That might be cool. A sort of "Meet the Legion" series.

The Empress called T-Wolf, "Furball." [LOL]
I like it that the classic Legionnaire couples are developing as we go along. Chuck being Luornu's "other third" never occurred to me before...awwww...very sweet.
Don't mess with Garth! he's NOT in the mood.

I've been excited about the 'toon since it started and so far S2 doesn't disappoint. Lots and lots of acknowledgments to Legion history while doing things their own way. This is plenty fun and a great ride. Believe me, I could handle 5 or 6 seasons of this. I don't even mind the 'soft boot'. (at least it's no 5 Year Gap)

Hunter finally gets some kind of super power eh? Or is that a function of that thing he's carrying? I have to rerun this and watch it, what is that, an axe like the Persuader's but with a different ability?

I'm Lovin' me some Legion!

I think the secret pocket in PG's cape might have actually been in another dimension. Remember, she does have to ability to access alternate dimensions.

Hope Ultraboy joins up soon. I also hope that eventually he and Supes throw down. I remember in the comic Ultra boy, Mon-el, and Superboyman had a tussel...

Which left all three hospitalized.

My reaction to this episode is pretty much the same as Phantom Girl's reaction upon seeing the original Superman: "Wow!" "Wow!" "Wow!"

(To which anyone may say, "Would you please stop saying that?")

Over on the main Legion forum, I've been engaged in an interesting discussion about whether or not the threeboot Legion is in fact "the" Legion or just "a" Legion (or not even a Legion, at all). To me, a Legion cannot just look like the Legion. It has to have some of the essential qualities that the preboot series developed over time. The threeboot Legion does not possess these qualities, so far as I can tell. To my sheer delight, however, the animated series does.

The animated series embodies all the qualities that I recognize as the Legion: the camaraderie, heroes facing seemingly overwhelming odds, the nice nods to past Legion stories, the relationships, the personalities, the settings, etc. That the animated series captures the Legion's essence in half-hour increments -- whereas the comic book series hasn't been able to capture it at all after 30 issues -- shows that there is still life left in the original, "unimproved" franchise.

I also admire the boldness of the animated series in charting its own course with two Supermen and Imperiex. This story hasn't been done before (or at least not in this way), and I'm excited to see how it turns out.

In fact, my only concern is that they may be overdoing it with the nods to past Legion stories. Next week's episode looks eerily similar to "Timber Wolf, Dead Hero, Live Executioner," from Superboy # 197. But, so long as Brin doesn't try to kill the president, I won't mind too much.

Really loved this episode. I like how the Legion reacted to Superman's return, that was beautiful. was surprised that they couldn't take down the Legion of Super Villains, but it worked. Liked Supe's line "well then I can't show you the secret handshake" that was just funny.

Bouncy being Duo's "third" was sweet. Phantom Girl stopping LL from crossing the line was nice too, kind of puts her in a more mature role than season 1.

Hope Saturn Girl, CB1 and CB2 aren't out for the season, and I hope we see more of the background Legionnaires, but it seems the "Gap" in time from Season 1 to Season 2 isn't going to hurt this Legion.

Yes, it was a nice and true-to-character moment for Tinya (who's more adorable than ever), and it's good to see the bonds forged between veteran Legionnaires, but I'm not so sure blocking LL's line of fire *this time* will stop him from crossing the line in the future. This is the same guy who once went all Captain Ahab obsessive and chased a space-whale across the galaxy out of revenge, plus his "promise" to Saturn Girl (not made lightly) wasn't necessarily confined to laying a smackdown on Esper: "I promise the people [plural] who did this to you will pay.". Only time will tell if Tinya has more reason to worry than she thinks, but it's curious LL didn't acknowledge her friendly act of intervention, much less thank her for it or show even a morsel of regret for losing his cool, which is the standard way "saving a friend from himself" scenes are typically resolved.

I too have the feeling Saturn Girl will linger in her >*cough*< death-like coma for months or maybe worse -- the closeup of the life-support readings on the monitor was ominous foreshadowing at its most conventional -- but not necessarily for the reason you cite [Smile]

With all the multitudinous nods to the stories of the past, I wondered when they'd get around to *It*. Switch LL and SG around, subtract 45 years and la voila -- instant gender-reversed classic Silver Age trope, the "death and resurrection of Saturn Girl". It could be dropped next week and be nothing more than a subtle and ephemeral homage, or it may play out over the entire season. It all depends on how dark and angsty they want to go.

So long as Proty isn't involved, that could work.

As an old-school Legion fan, I'm loving seeing hints of Garth and Imra, and 'Bounce' offering to be the 'third leg' of Trips 'tripod.' (Heh, did they really mean for that to sound so dirty?) Now I want to see Jo Nah sign up and start hanging out with Tinya.

Interesting that Mekt was also not in evidence. We find out why Validus was missing from the initial line-up of Fatal Fivers, but Mekt's absence from the LSV (who were specifically called the Legion of Super-Villains this time around, and not 'Lightspeed Vanguard') line-up remains unresolved (and, unlike Validus' absence, unmentioned). Is Mekt, like Validus, being saved for later, or was there some other reason for the character not to appear, given the already dense number of characters and sub-plots? (Lightning Lad already has a bunch of stuff on his mind. Adding in the sibling rivalry thing might just be confusing at this point, and the writers might not have wanted to waste an appearance here, particularly if he's being saved for Chained Lightning, in two weeks, although I'm also optimistic that we might see Ayla this season...)

Mekt wasn't captured with the other LSV in season 1. He escaped saying he had "big plans". How much you want to bet he shows up again as Imperiex's lieutenant?

RE: Saturn Girl...

She'll probably stay in a coma until it's time for her to go "Dark Imra" [Big Grin]

Posted by He Who Wanders on :

If the creators of the animated series really want to pay homage to past Legion stories, perhaps Imra will wake up in a cafe where she works as a waitress with Universo as her boss. [AHHHH!!!!]

I trust the creators to have more originality than that, however. So far, they've been paying homage to past stories without rewriting them. Triplicate Girl's fate, for example, only contains a brief visual nod to the original story (i.e, she's grabbed by a robotic tentacle), but is otherwise wholly original.

Whatever happens with Imra and the rest, I'm sure it will be true to the spirit of the characters while offering something new.

WOW! This was indeed one of the best episodes IMO! All that action! FF & LSV team up?! That hasn't even happened in the comics!(right?)

We got all the members as well! The animation looks better as well especially...BOUNCING BOY!!! The way he is drawn/animated looks better than the previous season.

I thoroughly enjoyed this ep. This show really seems to get better and better and better. I wonder if non-LSH fans are catching on to this thing. I'm willing to follow this Superman of the 41st century business but I do hope he is not a season long or heaven forbid a permanent addition to the show. I am also really enjoying how Brainy is Smithers to Superman's Mr. Burns.

I believe Superman X is with us for the entire season. How many episodes are there this season? 13?

Also hoping Matter-Eater Lad hasn't been written out for the season via the insanity thing like he was in the late 70's.

The only thing that made me sad was Cosmic Boy is out for the count, atm! [Frown] I love Rokk! [sigh] Hopefully he'll get better before the season's done for.

RE: Imra--
I immediately thought of the Reboot... mostly because I haven't really read anything pre-boot. My big fear? Her waking up in love with Rokk! Ga-ross! But that does explain her away for the season, since she wasn't part of the "starring" lineup this time around.

I really liked the episode. More Legionaries! costume improvements! Etc! The only thing that confused me is that what is obviously the 1st of a 2-parter played last week but the previews for next week seemed to be for an unrelated episode. Didn't catch it the week before so I don't know if that was a new episode or not. I feel like I am missing something.

Last week was the conclusion to the season premier two-parter. So if you only caught this one you missed part one. This week is week three with Cry Wolf.

Not this year. The WB has said they are only releasing air dates a month at a time and only releasing the synopsis for each episode the week prior to airing.

I know most of these were already covered, but I just had to post some stuff that bugged me about this episode. All-in-all it was a good episode though.

First, kind of strange hearing the LightSpeed Vanguard switched to the Legion of Super Villians. We didn't even get to hear how. This would be good potential for a flashback story or especially for the comic book.

Second, the way Brainy acted like time travel technology was standard issue and Phantom Girl would just happen to have it on her was disconcerting, since none of them were carrying any such technology. I liked what one poster wrote about the possibility of her accessing another dimension for safe-keeping to pull the technology from. Would have been better if they had not treated the technology as standard issue.

Third, Clark must have really extraordinary hearing. He heard the crack about being skinny even before they materialized, so he heard it from the past. Would have been better if the time bubble would have been visible first.

Finally, I really wanted to know who Superman was talking about when we was giving that talk to Superman X. I felt like they specifically didn't name any names. I wish they'd go back and elaborate on this in a future episode. I didn't think it was Timberwolf. I did think of the Superman meeting Batman thing, but not the version from the Superman and Justice League cartoons as someone else mentioned, though this could be likely. I thought of the Batman episode that aired just after Legion. In that episode, it was Superman who was reluctant to join the Justice League and Batman who was trying to convince him. I wonder if Legion writers have any contact with Batman script writers and knew the episode following theirs or if it was just a coincidence. Anyway, felt it was very vague. You could have filled in the blank with almost anyone. I would have preferred if Superman had named names.

I kind of overlooked the poor fighting on Tekron-Galtos and needing Superman X to turn the tables. They didn't want to Duo Damsel to get hurt and once she was safe and they were freed by Superman X, they could give it their all again. As someone else suggested, one of them should have tried to free their team members first, but again, if Duo Damsel were in immediate danger, they might have all surrendered like the rescue party did.

Other than that, enjoyed the episode. Characterization was great as was pointed out by others and lots of action in this one.

CHOKESVILLE, TN!!!! How sad was that Lu moment of looking at a reflection of herself to make a "triad"? That has to go down with crawling through the Smallville tunnels and crying herself to sleep as one of the most touching moments ever.

And Tenzil's a whackjob... Nura's in a coma... hope they're up and about before the finale!

It may be time to call in the Subs!
