Who remembers this comic? Back in the 80's there weren't a lot of 'funny animal' comic books around if you exclude the Bugs Bunny comics published by Gold Key/Western/Dell/Whitman.

Captain Carrot is in a rarely used genre of comics known as the 'funny animal superhero parody'.
After Captain Carrot's debut,Marvel followed it up with Spider-Ham!!

Do you have a favorite character of the Zoo Crew?

In 2005,the Zoo Crew returned, sort of,in the pages of Teen Titans #30-31 but more grim and gritty ala The Dark Knight Returns and the Watchmen.

Can you imagine Captain Carrot VS. Spider-Ham?

From Newsarama :

Quote
Going back to talk about spin-offs from 52, Jann Jones announced a new project: Captain Carrot and the Final Ark. "It's a very important year for Captain Carrot," Jones said. The project will be written by Bill Morrison and drawn by Scott Shaw! The villain of the story will be Ra's al-Pica.

I wonder if this story will take into account that horrible "dark" Captain Carrot story that Geoff Johns told in Teen Titans about a year ago?

He sullied a lot of the Zoo Crew's universe by killing off Little Cheese and a whole host of other minor characters from their stories, turned Alley-Cat-Abra into a murderess and added that boring Superman-riff Bald Eagle character to the team (completely redundant since Captain Carrot is already the team's Superman analogue).

When Geoff Johns is on he's ON, but when he's off he's WAY OFF and this was an example of one of his worst ever stories. It was almost like he secretly hated the Zoo Crew and was purposely telling the worst story he could so no one could ever use them again. It was weird. Guess he didn't get his wish though.

Looking forward to seeing the Zoo Crew done (hopefully) right.

Looks like they are indeed keeping Geoff's story intact.

Well, I'm excited about the news of the Zoo Crew's return!

I *did* think the recent TEEN TITANS tale was a homage to the 90s era of comics, which the ZC missed... and I agree it was sad to see the downfall of Alley-Kat Abra and the death of Little Cheese, not to mention the entire off-panel career of Carrie Carrot (off-panel memberships of obscure/never-seen heroines seem to make me an instant fan!)... so I guess what I'm getting to here is:

THANKS Geoff Johns for reigniting interest in Captin Carrot and the Zoo crew, despite the plot points I might not agree with.

I mean, who is to say All-Kat Abra hasn't been possessed by some demonic entity? I guess we will-- thanks to Geoff-- get the chance to find out!

I can't wait for this book!! I dug CCahaZC back in the 80's, so I'm pumped! Not sure about leaving the recent "grim and gritty" TT tale intact, but I'm willing to give Bill and Scott a chance to keep the Crew alive.

And how do we really know Little Cheese is dead... was there a body?

But Lash, no creative team would ever undo truly evil actions/murders by a major [subliminal]haljordan[/subliminal] hero claiming they were possessed by a demonic entity would they? wink I say thee, nay! Felina was obviously a kitty cat scorned, since she and Roger used to make eyes at each other before Carrie ever showed her ears around earth C!!!

Anyway, I'll definitely be picking this up!

Well, after reading that interview, I'm not as excited about this. Can't we just have one comic that isn't dark and modern? This could have been a fun bridge book between the Johnny DC line and the regular DC books. How many parents aren't gonna read this interview and pick it up as a bit of their past they can share with their kids only to find it filled with murder and terrorism?

I really wish he had ignored the Geoff Johns story. I must have expunged it from my memory because I had forgotten about it already.

I'll get the first issue, but I'm less hopeful than before.

After reading the entire article, I too was slightly less excited. I really don't want things to be TOO modern/grim/gritty in Captain Carrot's world.

And I'm still holding out hope that Felina was ossessed by a demonic entity!

Captain Carrot makes a ONE-panel cameo (un-named, in silhouette!) in this month's USAGI YOJIMBO #100, courtesy of Mark Evanier & Scott Shaw! (As they said, "DC's lawyers are NASTY!")

No comments on this after a week-plus?

I got it, and it reminded me very much of reading the original run of CC&haZC, what with the name-puns ("Sandy Eggo", "Quayle Simone"). For a few minutes I was back in the 80s!

The sea-dwellers vs. land-dwellers subplot wasn't too dark and added tension.

Looks like Felina's back next issue... go, go, go "possession by a demonic entity", GO!

Not a bad reintro to the team, but why didn't Chip Hunter appear on panel though? A one panel explanation of saving Fastback from Time Keeper (another ZC villain) and we're on to the story.

As to Alley-Kat Abra's return, they'll probably say her evil was caused by Wanda's influence on her, but she's feeling much better now... She'll still practice magic, but be less powerful without her wand.

And did anyone get the Pig Iron cameo in Superman #668 last month? Clark bought a watch for his foster son, and it had Peter Porkchops himself in the face of it. Very cool!

As a matter of fact, that same issue has Superman battling Dominators, so it has a minor Legion tie-in as well. smile

i was kinda suprised that they did have the Earth-C counterparts to Roy Thomas & Scott Shaw aka Roy Tomcat and "Scottie" Shaw at the Sandy-Eggo Comic-con

Well, Felina turned out to be A-OK after all, yay!

And the ending of # 3 has my vote for shock ending of the year.

I enjoyed this quite a bit and would have liked a longer run, even.

LLash, #3 was such a let down i was reading it in my Cab and i was like WTF?!?!?! what the hell kinda ending is this!!!! i was loving the first 2 issues and issue 3 before the ending was interesting, but then i was just there scratching my head asking: is this it? what a screwed up thing to happen to the Zoo crew. i liked seeing the *JLA* back in the book. i just hope that somewhere down the line the events in "the Final Ark" get's the Dallas recton treatment.
and on a side note: i'm introducing my neice to comics books and beside the Titans, i'm getting her into Capt. & the Zoo crew, and she asked me weither or not they were ever a cartoon series and i was like why the heck didn't WB/DC ever think of turning this into an animated series?
