I was seriously thinking of getting Dak and Herk into a theological discussion on the purpose of gods in preliterate societies to explain reality vs the rise of technological prowess at examining and understanding it, then though "nah, let's just behead the f*cker!"

What a thrill, I think there will probably be more tears before bedtime for the Olympians!

Hestalyts' powerful wings thrust her through space to the place where there was a weakening fold in the Einsteinian Olympus Reality interface field. Diving through into the normally clear atmosphere above the ancient god's home she was not ready what what she encountered.

The sky burned!

It roared with agony. The ground below shook as if it were a dog shaking water from it's back.

Zeus' eagles desperately flew away from a burgeoning mushroom cloud. Their majestic golden feathers already smouldering and aflame. Black poisonous soot, burning all it touched, drifted out from the cloud and filled the air. The air roared with the sound of Father Zeus' rage, a deafening roar as primal as life itself. Hestalyt could sense the incredible damage below as the hills and forests around the Olympians homes burned. What could have provoked the Father of the gods to have damaged his realm so?

She fought against the screaming wind and circled lower to where the Great Granite Courtyard at the centre of Olympus had been. The carved marble mezzanine was gone, the ground itself was rent and pitted with a great fiery crater. Still the air screamed as it burned.

Hestalyt could find no trace of her fellow Olympians amidst the awful wreckage before her. Her Starhaven inherited awareness told her they were alive yet she could not pinpoint them. As she flew around in desperate circles seeking clues to the terrible damage about her her eye was drawn towards the purple and red mushroom cloud above her. Within she could see the face of Father Zeus, surrounded by smaller faces - the missing Pantheon! They appeared to be forming and re-forming within the folds of the poisonous cloud itself, each roaring in sympathetic agony and anger.

Hestalyt flew low over the shaking burnt mountain top, fleeing from the face of such rage. She knew with certainty that this was not the time to announce there was a traitor in their midst, a traitor whose face she could see screaming alongside the other Olympians within the hellish maelstrom above.

Zeus' voice, louder that Hestalyt had ever heard, roared over the sky.

"DAK X'HALKIN, YOU AND YOUR COMRADES ARE NOW SWORN ENEMIES OF ALL ON OLYMPUS. WE SHALL HUNT YOU AS THE CRAVEN MONSTROSITY YOU ARE AND KILL YOU AS CERTAINLY AS YOU HAVE KILLED MY SON. YOU MAY HIDE WITH YOUR SORCEROUS WENCHES BUT BE ASSURED I WILL KILL YOU WITH MY BARE HANDS BEFORE THIS DAY ENDS!"

Jacqui sang.

Or rather she eminated noise. Her companions both felt it rumbling in their bones before it became audible. As her voice rose through the octaves it became apparent that there was more than one voice singing. These other voices initially seemed to be at a distance though gradually they became clearer, joining in the elaborate hymn the lithe Firstfooter sang. As more and more voices joined in the eerie arrangement it became overpowering, until, to Dak and Amalla it was as if they were listening to a Celestial Choir sing a triumphant concert to the Heavens.

Dak was frozen in place at Jacqui's side, his face a rictus of awe.

Amalla curled into herself and vomitted the contents of her stomach violently again and again until there was nothing inside her to bring up. Still her body rocked with the bitter taste of dry retching.

Still Jacqui, accompanied by the distant chorus sang.

Father Zeus has struck at them with a force not much less than that of an atomic bomb. It had undoubtable destroyed the Granite courtyard where they had stood, it would have blown the mountain top apart, torn apart the place they had been. It would have undoubtably have killed her and Amalla and most probably even maimed Dak had it struck them.

Jacqui sang for their survival. With the aid of her people she had been able to shift her party through the intradimensions at great speed, hurling them away from Mount Olympus and the father of the gods wrath. She could feel the desecration of Olympus behind them, the holy mountaintop screamed in agony along the cosmic notes of the Song of Life. Jacqui focussed her energy on saving her chosen companions but still the Song of Life screamed it's hurt to her.

Eventually, exhauseted, Jacqui slumped onto her knees and hands, the chorus fading away until all that was left was her lone voice, ragged and weary as it ended their flight from Olympus.

That was exciting! I hope Zeus doesn't come after them, though. But then, he can't cross realities, right? It was good seeing Zoe again, even though she's a goddess now.

Jacqui was on her knees, lent over an slab of ice, exhausted.

Within the bands of iron that bound her small frame Dak X'halkin could see the ribs rapidly in- and deflating. There was no other visible sign of life. He turned back to Amalla, at least the gorilla had stopped vomitting! He shook his head slowly, lips pursed and brow pushing heavy downward across his eyes. Again he wondered why he was with these Beings. They had just fled from the scene of the beginning of a great battle. His blood was up and he was fighting to control the adrenaline powered energy that had built inside him. Again, he wondered.

They were all upon a rock of ice reflecting a difuse warm light from somewhere unseen directly above. Equidistant on all sides, spreading out like a field of waterflowers, were row upon row upon row of similar rocks, each reflecting the same diffused light.

Below the rocks was nothing. Not the infinity blackness of the Einsteinian Realities deep space. There was simply.. nothing! Like the impossible patterns that flicker beneath eyelids, never fully seen or understood, the.. void beneath the rocks filled Dak's heart with a feeling of .. fear, fluttering like a moth against a window.

It showed Dak.. nothing.

Nothing!

He was a member of the Vegan Royal Family! He was a descendant of Dak Sacchev, the greatest warrior ever!

He was X'halkin!

He would find out where they were!

Without a glance at his companions he flexed his powerful legs and bounded across the 802 metre span to nearest rock.

....................................

Amalla had seen him jump. he had simply bent his legs and Boom! Gone! Streaming across the distance between rocks as he bounded with increased vigour out towards the far horizon.

The dust stirred by his departure hung in the air for several minutes before slowly turning from their expected trajectory and spining towards Amalla.

The gorilla was kneeling with eyes closed over Jacqui, gently touching the fallen Firstfooters armour with nervous fingertips. The firstfooter was panting, desperately gasping for breath. Amalla tried to enter her companions mind to assess her condition but instead of the warm diving sensation she normally felt when reading a mind Amalla felt as if her entire astral self were cocooned. She felt frozen. Amalla very quickly tried the defensive manouvres she had been forced to learn as a Gorilla amongst an all Human girl school. She struck with equivilent of a psychic roundhouse blow.

To absolutely no avail.

Ferocious lances of psychic muscle flexed and struck at the inertia around her.

To absolutely no avail.

Her astral form shrunk, assuming the form of a small ball, razor spiked and barbed. She pushed her form with all the power she could. She would NOT be trapped!

To absolutely no avail.

Around her she could sense the presence of others in the same way that one would feel eyes upon oneself if out walking at night in an unfamiliar part of an unfamiliar city after a power cut.

Her physical body reacted to her psychic distress, grabbing and pulling upon the iron bound face of the exhausted Jacqui Koauau beneath her.

As the gunmetal mask closed over her face Jacqui could hear the reverberations of the Holy Song of Wee Eavey Hakkawalla.

She could hear Amber's Song!

The stuff of Firstfooter legends, the guiding essence of the greatest Soulsinger the small Scots-Mauri tribe had ever had. Wee Eavey had allowed her physical being to be dissipated amongst the shattering Intra-Dimensions during the great Sundering 500 years earlier. Her song had continued amongst the multi-reality wreckage as a guide for her tribe as they furthered their God's goal to help heal the damage done during the Valenian Realms attack against the heros of the Einsteinian Reality. Her song, so Firstfooter legend said, held the Truth Profound.

The secret song of each and every atom.

Jacquis mortal senses were all muted to the point of virtual nonexistence now. With the mask sealed to the armour that Soulsingers had dawned since Ambers sacrifice half a millenia ago Jacqui left behind the merely mortal and transcended to something beyond. As Soulsinger of the Amber Man it was tradition that Jacqui assume the name of Amber, but as each Soulsinger since the Sundering before her Jacqui chose to keep her families given name, leaving the title to the Soulsinger of legend.

Her role now was to oversee and guide the gentle repairs that the Firstfooter tribe undertook. Along with the many songed Scots-Mauri descended tribe, at Jacquis disposal was the clear direct access to the Voice of the Amber Man. As part of her new role it was known thatshe was to interpret this divine message and pass His guidance onto the Tribe. She could also summon His voice when needed to aid her. She soon learned that His voice was mighty indeed! With His voice at her bidding she soon learned that it enabled her to directly influence the structure and order of the many Realities and Realms that her folk now trod. She could listen to and find, access and alter the Eternal Song Of Life, thereby changing the stuff of whichever Reality or Realm she entered. She could hear the Intra-Dimension Soul!

Amber's Song reverberated around her, through her, beyond her!

The Truth Profound was now inside Jacqui.

Jacqui was now one more part of the great being worshipped by the Scots-Mauri Firstfooter folks of McCuilola Major as their God, The Amber Man.

With this new power at her disposal Jacqui "Boom Boom" Kouaua no longer needed her mortal senses. They were filled with the wisdom and love that radiated from her God.

Jacqui takes a deep breath. Her eyes are still closed.

She can feel air move across her rudy cheeks in warm, regular waves. She gulps again, grabbing as much oxygen as she can into her lungs.

Slowly, almost timidly, she opens her eyes. Inches from her face is the very manic looking eyes of Amalla de Grundy. It takes Jacqui a couple of seconds to realise what is wrong. This is the first time she has seen Amalla in the flesh! She can see the veins in her eyes, the gold brown hair across her brow, the depthless brown pools of her eyes. Jacqui reaches up with her metalshod hands and gently pushes the young telepathic gorilla away from her.

"My mask.. what happened to my mask Amalla?"

"The sand Jacqui, the SAND!"

Amalla glances down towards her feet, drawing Jacqui's eyes with her. There they can see it crawling up her hirsure toes, spilling along the high arches of her feet and spiralling through the edges of her ankles to finally run in dusty rivulets through the golden curled carpetting on her calfs and shins.

As Jacqui watches, her own eyes becoming filled with tears at their exposure to light and atmosphere, Amalla collapses into an exciteable huddle.

"Jacqui, stop it, it tickles!"

Amalla's manic laughter punctuates the convulsions.
