I am in the United States. While I think it is safe to say that a majority of people in the US speak at least a little Spanish, most are not fluent.

This state, one of the original thirteen, is not west of the Mississippi (nor of the Kansas/Missouri border). It borders on the Great Lakes and shares a border with Canada.
