Scotty and Sulu both achieved the rank of Captain eventually, as well. Not Uhura, though. There was one episode where she, a lieutenant, was on the bridge and Kirk told Chekov, an ensign, to take over. Uhura didn't get the bridge till the animated series. Still, she was a woman--a black woman at that--portrayed in a professional role at a time when that was practically unheard of on American television.

I'm tempted to let him keep the captain's chair.

If it's any consolation, Chekov never achieved captain either (though he fantasized about being an admiral).

But La-Z-Boys don't have all those cool buttons on the armrests! You know, the buttons that enable you to address the entire ship: "This is the Captain! We are about to enter Klingon space! All female personnel must strip immediately!"
(Which has nothing to do with entering Klingon space, but, hey, you're the captain!)

When I was in Florida, we went to the beach one day. ("just one day" you ask shocked). IT was very windy and there were phenomenal waves. I had the most fun I've had in a long time jumping around in them.
I did get sunburned a bit that day, buy it was worth it.
