"The Debutante Ball" is a production of The Legionverse's Search for the Next Top Pinup Model. As Rainbow Girl said, the Debs have graciously allowed Pinup Models, Inc. holocams into their universe. The upcoming contest blends the two worlds.

I want to thank Legion World's own Thriftshop Debutante, who is a major contributor to this production. Teeds has personally chosen all of the hosts, judges, and contestants. She has supplied a lot of the verbiage you've read so far. This is a true collaboration. I mean, she *is* a debutante, right? She ought to know!
The fun part is, she has never seen any of the imagery. All the "holos" will be new to her, too.
The first challenge is coming along nicely. Teeds provided LOTS of ideas for what could be made into challenges. The pencilling is done, but the scanning, coloring and lettering are yet to be completed.
So check back often! This ought to be a lot of fun!

I wouldn't have expected anyone to remember Xenn. Sometimes I take liberties and give obscure characters names. I try to be sure the name I bestow has something to do with what we've seen. Xenn is from Xenn. Good enough for me, and I think it's cute!

The Ranzz Family was kind enough to host each of the Debs' families for picnics all over the Lightning Ring Vineyard and the holo cams were whirring!

JENNI. Classic. Charming. Leave it to an Allen to have cute feet, and I'm not even talking about those excellent sandals. (The boys: Cos, Mon, Magno?)
SOMI. A Silver Age-style sweet/fun holo! She looks like she's enjoying her floaty dress. Best backup boys! Get down, Evolvo!
SUSSA. Hands down, the most gorgeous dress. I love the silvery webbing with the textured, slighty toned down (from her usual) green.
XENN. This is just lovely. Is this lass hologenic or what? PS to Tab: Xenn is, in comparison to the the others, wide-eyed literally -- but figuratively? It's hard not to see Dirk for what he is. (Plus she's met him before.)
STILETTA. Yeah, girl! I agree completely with Tab & Thora. (She may be partyin' a little too hard for ol' Chet there, though.)
Ji looks smashing. That yellow with her coloring --!! And what fine (dance) company she keeps.

Well, in the old tradition of stuck-up rich girls, though I'm not any of those (of course, even claiming not to be stuck-up naturally calls into question whether I really am ... but I digress), I'm going to whisper about Stiletta's propriety behind her back and vote her out.
As for the others:
Jenni: I was ready to vote you out for being too casual until I read that's a skirt and not your lycra running shorts.
Somi: Just adorable. The dress is so spirited.

Under great duress, I'm voting out Sussa. I just don't like her outfit as much. It's not... I dunno. I'm not a fan.
Jenni: Is cute and chic but could use a tad more effort. She's a deb, after all.
Soni: Oh, I loved this one. It was perfect. Absolutely fabulous.
Xenn: I think she could be a bit more dynamic but there was personality there. That shows potential. So I definitely want more.

Stilletta is really living it up! I like the sense of energy, and the outfit, simple yet sexy. Plus the cleavage! Is that Crystal Kid back there? She gets bonus points for that, if so.
Xenn, dear, it's possible to look *too* interested. You've got to play it smoother with Dirk. He likes a challenge. And where is the other escort? It's Winath, you should be juggling twins! Mmm. Twins...
Sussa's outfit is a little too Cinderella princess for my tastes, complete with glass slippers, but she's at least up and moving, unlike bump-on-a-bench Xenn. Hey, Ron-Karr, I see you back there, you loser!
Somi is trying for a whimsical Marilyn-thang with that dress, I fear, and she's not quite carrying it off. But she *is* having so much fun, and she's got Duplicate Boy there, so that's cool. She's got Evolvo Lad walking like an Egyptian? That's just nuts!
Aw Jenni, you manage to show energy even while sitting down! Nice, understated, and wow, juggling three guys (between you and Stiletta, we know why Xenn only had one, you minxes!).

And for the record, I'd like to say that I don't dislike her. Not at all. But I feel that I need to vote strategically to try to keep Xenn in, I'm interested in seeing what she can do later on. If I was voting based on my preferences this round, I'd vote Jenni out. She's playing it too safe. And (part of) her hair should be longer.

A strong opening round; I hate to vote against *any* of these pictures.
Somi and Sussa are most debutante-y, and therefore safe for this round.
Stiletta ... the dress is a little generic, but she's just having too much fun to leave in the first round.

I've been thinking about what Teeds was saying about rejections. I decided that we should still have votes for whose holo was least popular, but then still allow all of the Debs to compete all the way through! The hitch? Less judge time.
So, for the first challenge, we will declare a tie between Sussa and Xenn. Basically, both of them have received a vote *against* becoming the final winner.

SOMI. A stunner. This Lass is knocking them out of the space-park!
XENN. Beautifully askew. She is fabulous.
STILETTA. I dig the naughty vibe, but to be honest, I've seen this holo before. (Not this one. You know what I mean.)
SUSSA. I don't quite love the garland, but I have to applaud the fresh idea. I do like the way the free ends are loose along her left side.
JENNI. Among other things, Jenni is 1. cute as the dickens 2. a sweetheart 3. a member of the Flash family. You can see all three of these things in this holo. You know this pic is going to be hanging in her dad's house.

Somi is my least favourite but I'm so glad I don't have to reject her.
Stiletta almost got chosen since she'll have to take those pearls out of her mouth eventually to nibble on the cucumber sandwiches. Of course, if Eve & Tenzil's daughter were here, she'd be eating the pearls... a happy future scene?

Jenni's was probably the next weakest, though I did like how her pearls followed her from behind like she'd just raced over.
Sussa and Somi definitely tie for favorite in this challenge. I love how each incorporated the pearls. Classic and classy. Pefect!
Xenn was sort of middle of the road for me. I feel like this one had more personality and I liked the way the pearls were done but... meh. She needs more pop to be a true deb.

Okay, I'm a smidge fashionably late to the Ball, but here's what I have to say:
I can tell Dean and Teeds are having a LOT of fun with this one... it SO shows.
I'm VERY glad there aren't any eliminations this time... I assume I'll be able to go back and vote on the first challenge I missed?
ROUND ONE:
I'm a sucker for white and navy... luved Jenni's picture and her bevy of beaus.
Of course, Sussa would show up with bad-bois. HOT!
Xenn had best prepare her nads-kicking foot for action.
Stiletta... Sugyn! CHET!!! Oh, I loved this!!
Somi's playful side was fun but somehow seemed too distracting.
Least favorite this round... It's between Somi and Sussa. If pressed, I'm going to say Somi. I think she's been sipping too much spiked space punch. Settle down and be stll, Somi, before people start talking!
PEARLS:
WOW-- this was a cool round.
LUVVED Somi's animated pearl shot.
Jenni got to the frame before her pearls quite did-- cute!
Stilletta-- *tee hee!* That's funny!
Xenn-- Why, you naughty little minx!
But SUSSA--- beyond fab! Elegant, beautiful! She definitely takes this round for me! YAY!
It was hard to name a least fave here, but if pressed I'll go with Stilletta, grudgingly.

Somi-- easily my favorite. It was the glow in her eyes... a simply lovely effect. The floating pearls was a subtle demonstration of her powers-- but remember, Life Lass doesn't just make inanimate things move... she gives them temporary *life*.
Xenn-- I liked this one, but Xenn kind of creeps me out.
Stiletta-- Stiletta took the most obvious route. I've seen the 'pearls in the mouth' shot many times. It's still sexy, though... and gets across the look she was going for.
Still, I have to vote this one as least favorite.
Sussa-- I would've liked to see some intertwining between pearls and hair. I didn't get the sense that it was her prehensile hair holding itself up, but an industrial-sized application of hairspray.
Jenny-- Love her expression, but I think you always give XS good 'face'. I like the speedstress-in-pearls angle.

I wold have voted Stiletta out of the first round, and it was close for her this round, too. I think I'm voting Somi out this round, it just didn't do it for me. I think Xenn has kind of a Goldie Hawn thing going on in this holo. Love Sussa's towering 'do'. And it would actually have to be BAD to get me to vote against Jenni.

Love Somi's look of concentration and Sussa's elaborate hairstyle. Xenn looks so nicely tousled, and Jenni has the cutest smile ever! Also, these pearls just can't keep up with her, it seems.
Stiletta is my least favourite this round because she somehow reminds me of a pet fetching something for her mistress, and that kinda quells the playful sexiness she was probably trying to bring across.

Stilletta: Humping her dad's leg??!! In the context of community work? What was she thinking? Maybe Evillo was busy (off finding someone else to finally fill up the ranks of the Devil's Dozen, perhaps?) and this was the royal lookalike standing in-- all royals have one, don't they?
Ugh- still nausea-inducing.
Least favorite.
Xenn- overshadowed by the Galactic Coordinator, but just about anyone would be. She looks like a stewardess on the Jackie O. airline. Which is about as deb-like as you can get.
Somi- I dunno, I think she has the look that most debs would aspire to exhibit in similar meetings. In fact, points to her favor (and Xenn's) for not taking the safe route and appearing with friends or family members.
Sussa- This pic would've been perfect if Sussa's hair had twined back into the frame making 'rabbit's ears' behind one (or both) of the SPs. Still, the playfulness is evident and enjoyable.
Jenni- Wow, right for the jugular. Hard to vote against the characters from a group that's both underdog and the LSH.

In this round, I'd say Somi is my least favorite. With Stiletta a close second. I love Xenn's Jackie Kennedy look. Even though I know nothing about her, I have liked he looks through the competition. Jenni looks like she is name dropping. And Sussa shows that even a deb can have a sense of humor.

Poor ol' Evillo, he was probably so pleased when Stiletta told him she was gonna debut -- bringing respectability to new UP member Tartarus and all -- that he neglected to drink in the fact that it was Stiletta. That's a fine (!) portrait of the big E. defeated by his li'l girl. Yet again. Styx is great too, popping up behind Daddy and tee-heeing. Tee-hee! Stiletta herself is OK.
As for the Tartarus Elite Defeense Team...maybe it's a dance squad specializing in high kicks? I'd certainly approve of that.
Sussa.This is how you do it. Add a li'l humor to what could be a very dull holo...and all while keeping within the context of the challenge. Kudos for Gigi & Zendak for being good sports. Nice webbing scarf.
Xenn. Typical photo op, but it works with these two striking (and strikingly different) sentients.
Jenni. Now, I don't have a problem with her in her Legionnaire outfit. In her profession, it's logical. And the girl looks gorgeous. Hologenic like no one's space-business. Jenni looks the best, but this isn't the top holo. Pinup Models Inc original composition though it might be...it's a Legion publicity shot.
Somi.CLUNK. A very dull holo. Typical photo op. Ugh to Somi's dowdy suit (why, lass, why??) and Marte's color scheme.
I respond least to SOMI's holo in case you couldn't tell.
Maintenance request: Jan's holo is malfunctioning, would someone give it a swift kick? (Stiletta?)

THE DRESSES
Somi and Jenni went for ballgowns
Sussa selected a mermaid shape
Stiletta and Xenn picked sheath styles
Sussa is working the tresses to echo her skirting. Somi is on the retro side while Xenn is the "modern" tip, but they're both timeless classics. Stiletta chose very well for herself. (Daddy is probably pleased as punch. Which Stiletta probably spiked.) Jenni! Speedsters don't get many chances to wear crinolines, so Miss Ognats probably jumped at the chance. But I respond least to Jenni's dress. I think it's more that I'd prefer this dress without gloves, but Glorith knows her **** and one is wise to heed her advice. OK, I also think Jenni could lose the tiara.
I luv Jenni though. Who doesn't?

I think I'll hold my vote a while and vote based on whichever poster makes the most valid case for their least favorite.
I know Teeds knows her deb dresses, but Cramer makes a valid point about being able to waltz. I'll see what others have to say....

Late for Round 3 (it's my own fault; I couldn't decide whether to vote against Somi for looking drab, or against Jenni for wearing her costume. I wouldn't have voted against Stiletta: although I acknowledge the "Eeuuww" factor in the pose, she had the best *outfit* in that round, which more than compensated).
Sussa remains the model to beat in this competition, especially since *all* of her competitors made weak hairstyle choices in Round 4. I like all of the dresses, so I'm voting against Xenn as the model with the least flattering hairdo (she needs something with more volume to balance out her eyes).

I updated the Debs' group holo posting by adding another copy of it, bigger than the thumbnail, yet not as big as the original. Hope that helps!

Stiletta: Looks good, if a tad Ravenesque.
Jenni: Great expression... though it isn't evident here, isn't Jenni shorter than most fems? This would be the wrong dress choice for her if so.
Sussa: I think she's my favorite... the silhouette of the dress balances her hair, which for her, I think always looks best free and unfettered.
Xenn: Looks out of her element. Least favorite, for me.
Somi: Probably my second favorite. Y'know, I was thinking... could Somi animate her own hair? And out-Sussa Sussa?
I like her dress-- stiff *ain't* a prob for Life Lass-- but the hair? A little too Night Girlie, maybe? Something about it doesn't work for me.

Under duress, I suppose I'll vote for Xenn as my least favorite. I think her dress was too daring after the conservative attitude she showcased throughout the competition.
But, honestly Dean, they were all amazing. Really gorgeous gowns, jewelry, etc. all around. True debutantes to the end!!

Again another tough round to choose a least favorite. I have to say Xenn this round.
Jenni & Somi look like princesses, which is how a deb should look at a cotillion. Stiletta's dress is stylish. And Sussa does have her hair power to make her look stunning.

There all pretty brilliant, but I'm going to go for Jenni, just because that dress definitely strikes me as wrong for her.
Xenn didn't really do much for me this round, either.
The other three are fantastic, though!

Sussa definitely takes this round. She looks beautiful!
Stilletta has redeemed herself... so classy (no one has to know she spiked the space-punch)!
Somi looks marvelous... Lydda isn't the only one who can do the beehive 'do.
So I'm down to Jenni and Xenn... Jenni looks almost over-the-top while Xenn just doesn't inspire much feeling in me this round at all. "Over-the-top" must win out against "little inspiration".
Xenn for least favorite.
BTW, Veilmist looks absolutely smashing and I loved the candids!

Aw, I missed voting, and I've gotta say, it would have been an impossible choice if I'd had to pick a favorite. Stiletta, Jenni and Sussa all took it away, with Somi also looking good.
Stiletta's swank posture and sassy grin were awesome. Jenni just looked so 'country girl in the big city,' like she was starstruck being there. Sussa's hair, as always, took her picture to the next level.
Fun show!
