Please take your time and think about your choices before you fill in the following form.
The next Holo Model challenge is called Fresh Faces. Basically, we're looking for characters from the Legionverse who have never made it into the finals in previous competitions.
We will be using our full team to present this one!

Okay, I'm gonna try my best here! I've watched all of the holo model competitions, but I'm afraid I might forget who's been in. So if someone's a repeat, sorry!
1. Bouncing Boy, Polar Boy (I wish I had more so I could vote for pre-Crisis Star Boy... and Wildfire... and Mon-El...) 2. Light Lass (pre-Crisis or 3boot), Supergirl (maybe pre-crisis?) 3. Magno (reboot Dyrk Magz), Impulse (Kent Shakespeare) 4. Lori Morning (reboot Dial H for Hero), Shvaughn Erin (reboot era) 5. Green Legionnaire from Adv #247, Crystal Kid 6. Dawn Allen, Mystelor (she almost made it once) 7. Prop: Legion Rings (NOT on fingers for a change) 8. Setting: The Athromite closet! 9. Other: Uh, I got nothing...

Now you can refer to who the finalists have been, so far!
Also, note the "Tournament of Champions" contestants. Hmmm.. that title is misleading. I'm going to have to think of another way to name that one....
Thanks for your entries, Cal.
Remember everyone, this time, if someone else has named someone you wanted to name, you DO want to name them again, to ensure they get in.
(I'm already having a bunch of fun with this!)

Sorry if I messed you up, Cal! My original numbering had a typo!!
I'll be sure your nominees are counted, though!

Thanks, Sketchy! I thought I only did two noms per category, though. I'm just indecisive...

I edited your numbering, too, Cal, just to help avoid any further confusion.
Thank you for so promptly replying to the various Holo Model threads I start!

I'm cogitatin'! Posted by Fat Cramer on :
1. Star Boy and Wildfire 2. Supergirl and Light Lass 3. Leland McCauley and King Voxv 4. President Chu and Celeste Rockfish 5. Tim Vare, Interplanetary Trader and Dr. James Bannon, expert on Throon - both from Adventure #319 (Archives v.3) 6. Mordru's green skinned, white-haired wife (LSH #6) and Acker, the pig-tailed pitcher from The Dreamers (#37) 7. Prop: The Star Stone (SLSH #226). My first choice was a dazzle gem, but with Lester there might have been a conflict of interest. The Star Stone is interesting because it protected itself by telling Brainiac 5 the truth - such a devestating, simple defense. It might not be very interesting to draw, though. 8. Setting: The City Star Restaurant (SLSH #242)
This one took more work, mostly checking issue references. The most fun is picking obscure characters - so many excellent ones!

Wow! Thanks for "calling the roll!" Mystery Lad!!
So helpful!
Here's an update...
Male Lead: Bouncing Boy has 3 noms Polar Boy has 3 also
Female Lead: Ayla has 4 noms Supergirl and Shady have 2 each
Supporting Male: Kent Shakespeare (Impulse) has 2 noms Leland McCauley also has 2
Supporting Female: President Chu has 2 noms
The Obscure Male and Female categories each have several single nominees. We will have to narrow that down, eventually.
The Prop and Setting categories have several single nominees, which will probably all be used.
The Other/Anything Else categories have several single nominees, but also: Tellus and Flederweb with 2 noms each.
These polls are still wide open. I will vote last, which could settle any ties that might occur before we begin.
The Fresh Faces competition will have a LOT of characters in it, in every capacity! It ought to be a LOT of fun!!
If you have some editing to do, please do so. Remember that I'm really flexible with these things.

LEGIONNAIRES I'm not going to nominate. So many Legionnaires are already disqualified by virtue of previous contest appearances anyway.
SUPPORTING CHARACTERS Inferno of The Wanderers. I think she should remain in opaque glasses, but perhaps she'll choose different frames. Or perhaps not.
Nightwind. With hair, please.
Dawn Allen. She may not have appeared much, but it was too much to be obscure.
How about the new Teen Lantern from LSH31st?
OBSCURE Cill(?) Zoe's SP partner.
Zynthia Thom's ex.
Madame President of Braal. Panel 5, page 5 of SLSH 236. How's that for obscure? Dig her headdress, Sketchy.

This has been a lot of fun so far, and it's only going to get more fun. I expect for this contest to have a LOT of stuff going on.

Maybe you're thinking to yourself, "But Sketch Lad, what about all those obscure characters I took my valuable timing scoping out for this thing?" Well, I have an answer! I will be organizing an ALL OBSCURE CHARCTERS Holo Model competition. It will happen later, of course, because I want to take good care of the Fresh Faces. Plus, that gives me time to research each of them, and be able to try to get to know them a little bit before I shine that glorious Legion World spotlight on them. You know how LW tends to make stars of the obscure....
Posted by MLLASH on :
Super! Another chance for Leeta 87!
Posted by Caliente on :
Wasn't she in Impress the Empress? I liked her...
And finally Dawn Allen will have her chance to shine! Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Don't tell her, but the Empress' contest, "Impress the Empress" doesn't count as an official Holo Model competition. It was an AWESOME project, don't get me wrong, but let's just call it a "spin-off."
Update on Fresh Faces....
I've organized the whole competition, using the data you all filled in. Now it's just a matter of creating the artwork. There will be six judges this time, and I'm sure I've mentioned before that the judge's situations and dialogue write themselves. Ought to be interesting....
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
I posted the greet from the hosts, a hello from the judges and the first look at the finalists. Notice they are all referred to by one name. I thought that was kinda fun.
I'll start the artwork for the first challenge very soon.

I gotta say, based on the face-shots, Kantuu really stands out. I mean, green skin is no rarity in the LSH-verse but he's... different.
Also, nice face-shot for Chuck... I've often considered Chuck more hot-fat than fat-fat, y'know, like a cute husky football player (this often doesn't convey well in spandex). We'll see how this works out for him. Don't be afraid to toss some space-gel in his hair!
Kara and Nightwind are lovely, and I agree, Jordana is the freshest of fresh faces!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
The first challenge has been completely pencilled and even scanned. I just need to color everything. As usual, the judging sequences wrote themselves. And as usual, an interesting plotline has developed.
I had a lot of fun with the first challenge. Here's a hint... it'll be more entertaining to you if you're familiar with all the past Holo Model competitions.
Looking forward to sharing it with everyone, and more than ever, the results of each round will be quite entertaining!
Hey, I've gotten half of the holos colored! That's way more than I thought I'd get to this weekend. Still have all the judges and some of the hosting panels to color though, but coming right along....
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
The first challenge is posted!
Please name your male and female winners and losers. Then... wait and see what happens to... or with... them.
Posted by Caliente on :
Great idea, Sketchy!! I recognized a bunch of those holo scenes, too. Brilliant.
Winners: Chu & McCauley Losers: Supergirl & Brek
Supergirl's pose was just a bit... dull to me. For some reason, she just didn't come off iconic. I know Kara can do better, though. Personally, I do hope she makes it through, so we can see her in those hot shorts!
Brek just didn't look... right. I can't quite put my finger on it but there was something there that felt... forced. It's a shame 'cause I love his hat!
On the other side, Chu really surprised me. But something about her being evil and in Tyroc's costume... I dunno. She was just.. sexy! It was strange. (I half expected the Emerald Empress to fall for her.)
McCauley is another one I wouldn't have expected to like. But there was something so blissfully arrogant about him that really struck me. Plus, the background with Starry Night was... inspired. He would be greedy like that, to own an ancient work instead of sharing it. Just spot on and absolutely fabulous.
Comments about the other competitors: -- Ayla didn't do it for me but I liked her spunk. Hopefully the next challenge will highlight her assets more. -- I love Jordana and hope to see more of her for sure. I think part of the reason her holo wasn't my favorite (it was a close second!) was because I couldn't see her distinctive hairstyle entirely. I just love her hair. However, the color contrast was brilliant and she looked positively radiant. Great job there. -- Nightwind was just sort of "eh" for me. No real strong feelings either way. She's sexy but it's just kind of... there. I'd love to see more expression from her, y'know? Like Tyra says, you have to connect with the camera! -- Chuck's was a little much for my tastes, though I absolutely adored the Empress' response to him. I really cracked up. -- Dvron was inspired. Definitely a runner-up to McCauley. I loved the dynamic coloring and his expression and the devil horns... just wonderful! Really, really great. -- Kantuu didn't do it for me, either. I can't quite explain why but it was just sort of there. I was unimpressed with his performance.
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
AYLA: The retro space uniform is a good fit for her-- in fact, she'd look great with this style costume all the time. Her hair-do fits in perfectly. The stars on the gloves make her look like a bit of a Colossal Boy groupie-- or a good friend of his.
LELAND: Nice job on that lamp and the Van Gogh painting. I like the concept of the contrast between treasures and casual attire. Too bad Leland's so generally skeevy. Jeans and a crisp white T-shirt and long hair are sexy as all get out-- but when you're such a total jerk, the attire and hair become unsettling. Maybe it's the sunglasses. Was he going for drug dealer chic?
JORDANA : Picking her posed more of a challenge than I first would've thought. Since she debuted in the animated version of the comic, she's a much younger looking character than she'd be if she were introduced in the mainstream LSH comic.
BREK: Not hitting it for me. Not sure why-- I like the minimal blue/black color scheme... the blue suits Brek. Good expression, nice torso. Maybe it's the eyebrows?
NIGHTWIND: My favorite gal. I think the space-helmet and her face and hair within it are beautifully done. The costume isn't what we'd expect from her. Maybe that's the 'artificiality' that Hate-Face is going on about. I like the purple for the space background.
DVRON: Hmmm. What's he doing with his hands? I wouldn't have recognized him without him being ID'ed.
SUPERGIRL: Fresh face indeed. Innocence evident. (Or faked very well).
CHUCK: Oh my dear lord-- I did not expect *this*! Give the man the contest.
CHU: Ick. There should've been a snake crawling around somewhere. At least Jan wasn't tied up on a table somewhere. Is Tyroc the new Starfinger?
KANTUU: Close second to Chuck (but not *too* close...) You did a good job on his chest and the glow under his eyes gives him lots of expression. The image of him buddying up with the nebula is a great one.
The judges are such a great show unto themselves. You know what might be fun? If you did a future 'blind' competition... supplying judges drama, comedy and comments without naming names and we voted on who we think they're describing...
Empress in love with Kantuu?! Tee-hee! The Supergirl 'rapture'? Gotta be preboot, but cute.
Winners: CHUCK and NIGHTWIND Losers: LELAND and CHU
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
Winners: KANTUU - very bold and striking! and CHU - bold and a little creepy! It takes quite an attitude for an older woman to wear Tyroc's disco costume.
Losers: BREK and AYLA. They look sweet and wholesome and I guess I'm just not in a sweet and wholesome mood this morning.
It was a tough decision between Kantuu, McCauley (so unexpectedly casual!) and Dvron (hot!).
I'm amazed that Lester can calculate interest on his gazillions in his head. Maybe he's a mathematical genius?
Posted by MLLASH on :
I'll start with the girls, as this is an easier choice for me...
Winner: NIGHTWIND. Fab, just fab. She's fierce, she pops!
I liked SUPERGIRL too (I have this chicks-flying-through-space thing right now).
CHU doesn't do it for me (can't get past her villainy, I suppose) though I loved the connection to another former Earth President, Troy Stewart AKA Tyroc.
JORDANA deserves a pass through to next round.
AYLA was too "eh".
Loser: AYLA gets the nod barely over Chu.
In general, I liked the guys' holos a bit more more so this is a bit harder...
Winner: KANTUU. All he needs is a space-manicure and I'd be fighting the Empress for him. LOVE the addition of the Gorilla Nebula.
CHUCK's looking good!
BREK deserves a pass through.
McCAULEY's background made the picture for me. Well done!
Loser: DVRON looks very sexy yet I can't reconcile this with my Baptist roots! Out with Old Scratch!
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
I had a tie with my choices for winning pictures. I like Dvron and Brek and I liked Chu and Jordana. I'm going to go for Dvron (the little devil) and Jordana. I like the combo of the red hair and green mask. I did like Chu using Tyroc's costume.
Chuck looked a little awkward. more by the stubble than the feathers, I think.
But McCauley was the worse. Trying to impress us with his Van Gogh and Tiffany lamp (Nice touch Dean) I am split between Nightwind and Supergirl. I pick Nightwind as loser.
Posted by Dain on :
Loved the judges comments. Sarya: He's handsome enough. Maybe a bit skinny.
It's difficult to choose just two. Too difficult. Sigh...
From the girls I liked Jordana and Nightwind the most. Jordana is a new and very interesting face and Nightwind is gorgeous and exotic and sexy! Winner: Jordana. Not winner: Ayla.
It's more difficult with the boys. I know who I'll vote for "not winner" (don't like the word loser) but choosing among Brek, Chuck, Kantuu and Dvron? Hmmm.
Brek is shiny and sleek and very handsome. Chuck is very sexy and masculine and powerful-looking. Dvron shows a side of him, the devilish one, I never thought he had. And Kantuu's scene is just wonderful.
OK. Winner: Chuck not winner: McCauley
(If I could pick a second one, it'd either be Dvron or Brek. Probably Dvron).
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Heh! Thanks for the votes, everyone. I'll post an update soon.
Yeah, Dain, I'm all jaded. I blame the Legion with the way they "REJECT" sentients. I believe in using terms like "most favorite" and "least favorite" but I suppose we're putting these Fresh Faces through the paces by saying winner and loser.

Comments in order of preference:
1. Chuck. What a surprise! Chuck has never been a favourite of mine, but I think his bold choice of attire works for him. Like the stubby face.
2. McCauley. LOVE the background, this is exactly where he should be. And he looks surprisingly good in plain clothes. Loose hair also works for him.
3. Devlin. I wouldn't have recognized him if his name hadn't been mentioned, but it doesn't matter, the picture is wonderful.
4. Kantuu. Love those fiery eyes. A very good setting for him.
5. Nightwind. Like that haughty pose. But in this round I much, much prefered the men.
6. Chu. Lovely as well, I like the dark mood of the scene. She's really pulling this off...
7. Jordana. Meh. I guess I'd like to see more of her.
8. Ayla. Nah, her retro-attire is not doing it for me. It just looks boring. She can do SO much better!
9. Brek. The proportions are all wrong, the chest is too big, the head too small. Too bad, because I'd really like to see more of this contestant.
10. Supergirl. Too bad she's my loser this round, I'd like to see her in subsequent challenges. But she just looks frozen in flight.
Excellent choice on the type of competition (i.e. putting them in situations from previous contests). I think you should use this device again.
I much, much liked the men this time around, so I'm afraid of the consequences that this vote are going to have. Anyway, here are my votes:
Best: Chuck and Nightwind Worst: Polar Boy and Supergirl

The rejects receive a farewell holo as a consolation ...prize?
Stay tuned!

The bonus holos for Nightwind and Kantuu were BEYOND fab!
I *loved* the Light Lass/Kid Heavyfeathers farewell!!
Your hint at a pairing between the Empress and Kantuu makes me wish such a thing had happened in the comic! THAT would have been a pretty dangerous duo.
Posted by Doctor One on :
So, have we lost the Empress as a judge? That last holo of her is amazing, she'd do great as a contestant one of these days. I wonder if Kantuu is going to take her harassment without reacting.
Don't mind seeing Ayla go, but I'm sad about Brek. Oh well, on to the next round.
I LOVE these competitions, thank you, Dean!
Posted by Dain on :
Wow! I've never seen the Empress so...smitten with anyone. The thought of her and Kantuu together is, I don't know, "out of this world" I wish I could see them in the comic!
Kantuu and Nightwind are absolutely gorgeous!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
The Empress really seemed to be enjoying the holos for once, and her crush on Kantuu just happened to be the finale of that sequence. The question is... what will happen next?
Thanks everyone, for the comments about the bonus holos. It was a great idea (not mine). Of course I use the data from the initial "surveys" as inspiration.
I'll post hints about the next challenge soon.

I just posted the intro for the next challenge called "Close Encounters." I'm currently coloring the holos, having fun.
Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :
SAME STUFF, DIFFERENT DUDES & DAMSELS
Ayla. While I can't find fault here, this pic just doesn't grab me. It's like, not love.
McCauley. His hair space-bugs me...far too artfully tousled for my tastes. Otherwise, it's a fine portrait (not just picture) of Mccauley.
Jordana. A fine introduction photo for the newest kid. I'll expect to see more of what she can do (I don't necessarily mean with her mpower ring) in future challenges.
Brek. I don't think this challenge worked too well for the guys originally and...no. My male vote for OUT.
Nightwind. I agree with Marte: she looks confident. Very flattering coloring, too.
Dvron. Nice mix of naughty-n-nice. Very good. Would have given the Autumn Auburn guys a run for their money.
Supergirl. This is her forte, but this holo...no. [No, no, no. My female vote for out.
Chuck. Okay, I did chukle at the Chuckster, but don't play the "guy wearing overly-revealing outfit for to make you laugh" card again. Once is okay, twice will get you bounced. Got it?
Chu. This one ain't camera shy, that's for sure. Also liked the background coloring here.
Kantuu. Is this dude photogenic or what? Chuck, I think you're going to be fighting him again -- he seems to have some sly comedic leanings.
No deliberations necessary for the guy winner...I knew it was Kantuu right away. For the gals, though, it could have been Chu, Nightwind, or Jordana.
Oh, yes, I love Lester. Lester! You gotta come back, the Empress has run off and someone's gonna need to kick Cos. (Don't need to be Naltorian to know that.)

Polls will remain open all weekend. Enjoy!
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
Winners: Chu and Chuck. I really wanted to vote for McCauley and Nightwind so they'd either get extra winner holos or reject holos, but Chu and Chuck made me laugh more.
Rejects: Kara and Dvron. Just didn't like Kara's body builder look and I think I felt sorry for Dvron. He looked a bit deer in the headlights.
I'm amazed all those judges are getting along! They must be entirely captivated by the contestants.
Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :
Best: Chuck & Kara
Worst: Nightwind & Dvron
I loved the Kantuu picture but it was because of the Empress not Kantuu. And that's why I didn't pick him for best. I also liked the McCauley picture. I was hard pressed to pick a winner for the females. None really looked all that good to me.
The judges' comments were very delightful.
Posted by Caliente on :
Winners: Chu & Chuck Losers: Jordana & McCauley
Chu has this expression on her face-- I love it! I also love Gates as her partner. He space rawks~ They just have hilarious chemistry and she's definitely becoming a front-runner for me.
Chuck, ohmigod. Ohmigod. Sketchy, this may be my favorite holo of all time. Seriously, I defy anyone to dislike it! So brilliant. And while Chuck's co-star adds to it, he definitely steals the show (as any holo model potential should).
On the other side... Jordana really disappointed me. I just don't feel anything from her holo. And, while I'd love to see more of her, I'm just not sold. There's definitely something missing here.
And, finally, McCauley. All I can say is that Tangleweb steals the holo from him. And he looks like a slimy git, which fits him but... not the kind of model I want winning the competition! No thanks.
Other comments about other competitors: --) Dvron... eh. Nothing special there. Not great but better than McCauley for me. --) Nightwind was definitely a close second to Chu for me. She was just... beautiful and serene. I loved her expression, make-up, outfit-- everything! I felt her emotion this time, for sure. --) Kantuu nearly beat out Chuck! I absolutely adore this holo. Just their expressions and the way that you played with size and... yeah. Brilliant. --) I nearly voted to eliminate Kara again because she just isn't doing it for me. I can't explain but... I don't like it. Not at all.
Posted by Insomniac Girl on :
The guys were relatively unproblematic to decide on. McCauley's holo's sporting two so thoroughly unpleasant individuals wearing thoroughly unpleasant expressions that it was easy to pick him. Likewise with Chuck, because of whose entry we're probably going to face an international brilliance crisis very soon since all of it was used up during the creation of his holo!
The girls, though, were much harder. I picked Jordana over Kara for the last place because I like Kara's fresh facial expression and the fun-at-the-beach-vibe her holo gives off, whereas Jordana somehow doesn't leave me with much of an impression at all. Chu vs. Nightwind for first place was very very hard. The warm colours in Chu's holo, the intimate atmosphere between her and her conversation partner and her half-lidded expression are really beautiful. Nightwing though is maybe a smidgen more striking - mainly because of her holo's overall composition and her very impressive co-star (and the floaty candles, one can never have enough floaty candles).
I'd say the Empress looks totally cute in her guest-starring role if I needn't fear that a comment like that would get me fried.
Erm... Quicksand's really scary-looking now. All that blonde and pink.. she's like Attack Barbie. Posted by MLLASH on :
WOW, fun stuff...
MALE WINNER: Kantuu.
That holo is fabulous.
FEMALE WINNER: Kara.
I checked the last page first so this was the last holo I saw. And I believe I saved best for last.
Poop. I gotta pick last-placers too? that's hard to do.
Can't pick Dvron... his and Monstress' sweet-- and strangely erotic-- holo was almost my selected male winner. I was also drawn to the McCauley/Tangleweb image.
OUT: Chuck.
Though I detest Chu, I have to admit that is one amazing holo. Jordana was my chosen femme winner until I saw Kara, so not her. I also like the goth-Nightwind shot. Curses!! this is too hard!
Fine, I'll vote for the one I can't stand personally...
OUT: Chu.
Posted by Doctor One on :
Woderful stuff! Let's see...
1. Nightwind. She wins it this time, hands down. Love the strange, but serene atmosphere.
2. Supergirl. I think you draw her better than the guy doing the comic book. She is very muscular, but looks great. Good job.
3. Dvron. A difficult decision for male winner. In both Dvron's and Kantuu's holos, the guest star steals the show. But I so love Monstress' expression in Dvron's holo that I have to give him the win.
4. Kantuu. The Empress is amazing, Kantuu looks a bit flat. I really like the concept of the whole thing. It feels like the genie convention just got into town.
5. Chu. Nice holo, but I object to Gates' size. He is just not that big! Or is this a matter of perspective?
6. Chuck. I had him right at the bottom of the pile, but I have to agree that the idea of doing Laurel and Hardy was brilliant. It's just that the final product doesn't grab me. Chuck looks like... well, Hardy, not himself. I would never have recognized him.
7. McCauley. Meh. Not much to comment here. I think I like McCauley better with loose hair, at least for this competition.
8. Jordana. There just isn't very much going on in her holo. Too bad, she seems like an interesting character to draw.
So, winners: Nightwind and Dvron; loosers: Jordana and McCauley. 7.
Posted by Language Arts Lad on :
Favorites: Chuck and Kara, and I swear it isn't because of the bikini, it's her sweet expression. Jordana was a close second.
Least favorites: CHu didn't do much for me, though it was fun to see gates. It was a toss up between Dvron and McCauley, so... Dvron.

Thanks for all the votes and comments! Here's the update...
I did some farewell holos for our guest judges. Couldn't help myself!
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
CHU: I get the feeling that Chu's humoring Gates and is about to lower the boom.
CHUCK: This is cute. B&W is turning out to be a bit of a Chuck theme.
JORDANA: Tellus gets more of my attention.
KANTUU: (Can *not*!) Empress steals the show.
KARA: I like her face and the pose. Devilfish is always fun to see. This makes me want to see how they interacted.
DVRON: There *is* a touch of reboot Element Lad (at least after Mordru's transformation of him) about Dvron. It does have a certain eroticism.
NIGHTWIND: Nice to see m'boy, AL. I like them together. There is a touch of rehearsing for community theater about it. And I'm calling that a good thing.
MCCAULEY: I wish Tangleweb's leg (tentacle?) were peeking into/out of McCauley's jacket. Like the monster villain was 'in McCauley's pocket'. That'd be appropriate.
WINNERS: NIGHTWIND and DVRON (with Kara and Chuck close seconds) LOSERS: JORDANA and MCCAULEY (with our limited experience of her, she's gone about as far as she can go- and McCauley-- well, he's McCauley).

Chuck and Nightwind had their holo-shoots at the Athramite's Closet and Validus escorted McCauley and Jordana away.
The next round will begin soon. I haven't done any pencilling yet, though.

Poor Jordana. Better luck next time.
Both holos are great, especially Nightwind's. She's a very beautiful lady and I like the color of her dress. Chuck looks real spiffy too.
Posted by Caliente on :
That farewell holo of Chuck's was awesome. He owned it so well. Great work, Dean!

As a fan, I'm really pleased to see Nightwind and Chuck under your pen, Dean. And I also love seeing more of characters I'm not very familiar with, like Kantuu. And adding Chu was brilliant!
I'd really like to see Gates compete in one of these, though. That would be interesting.

Chu and Dvron to win.
The settings were so attractive in this round that I found the models sometimes clashed with them - especially Kantuu! But that's just Kantuu being Kantuu, of course. So I favoured Dvron's more subtle grey ensemble.
On the other hand, Chu's primary colour costume went well with the multiple colours behind her.
Was Nightwind dancing or posing? Interesting, but I went with evil old Chu. Chuck looked bold, Kara looked great. I suppose Kantuu was the only one I found a bit jarring, so I'll expect Emerald Ethel to be attacking me shortly.
Perfect eye-dea <groan> to combine the Empress and Ethel!
Posted by Language Arts Lad on :
All the women appealed to me, the men less so.
Thumbs Up: Chu and I guess Chuck Thumbs Down: Kaantu and I guess... hmm Nightwind
Posted by Mystery Lad on :
Kara: Did she get a cinder in her eye? I like how her cape mimics the shape and flow of the flame.
Chuck-El: A tad too 'wish you were here' touristy-- but good.
Nightwind: Should I recognize this outfit? It looks like maybe I should... Love the background and her '40s-ish hair.
Kantuu: Not his best, but his previous efforts could keep him in.
Chu: I can't stand this character, but that is one dazzling pic. I second Cramer's costuming comments. Well chosen color scheme.
Dvron Light: Hope he's not turning to the dark side. Nice, confident pose against a lovely background.
Emerald Eye-ful: Ha ha ha! Brilliant! And scary.
Winners: Dvron and Nightwind. I think Chu's is the best, but I'm pretty sure she'll win and I *don't* want to see Nightwind leave!
Losers: Kantuu and Kara. Not a good round for characters starting with 'K'.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Thank you for the comments and votes. Cramey, you didn't state your rejects. It's not too late.
Polls remain open.
Posted by Doctor One on :
Well, I actually LIKED Kantuu. In fact, I think it was the best of the holos. I like his pensive pose, and the planets/meteors behing make for a very striking scene.
So, my comments in order of preference:
1. Kantuu. See above.
2. Dvron. Like that dark costume.
3. Chu. Lovely jewel mountain. And a very striking pose.
4. Chuck. Sorry, he's not doing it for me this time. The male reject.
5. Supergirl. I actually like how you portray the air movement because of the heat. Nice.
6. Nightwind. I've been such a supporter of her, until now. But in this holo her pose is too artificial. Did not like it.
So, Kantuu and Chu as winners, Chuck and Nightwind as rejects.
Posted by Dain on :
Sarya....giggled? The Emerald Empress giggled?? This was probably the funniest judge scene I've seen in all of Sketchy's contests!! I laughed literally to tears!
Emerald Ethel is....scary!
As usual the holos are great and in this case I have to admit I enjoyed some of the backgrounds a bit more than some of the contestants.
Anyways, my picks are:
Win: Nightwind (a perfect, fairytale-like scene) Dvron (even though his costume seems a bit drab in comparison to the rainbow, the scene works and blends very well)
Reject: Chu (it's a beautiful scene but Kara's holo blends both the character and the background in a very powerful scene, so I couldn't reject Kara) Kantuu (the blue seemed to me to clash with the rest of the holo)
Posted by MLLASH on :
WINNERS: NIGHTWIND and KANTUU
LOSERS: CHUCK and CHU
LOVED Kara's holo, but Nightwind's retro-hairdo pushed her over the top for me. Chu's holo is nice and all but anyone would look nice in that setting.
Dvron's Dr. Light outfit pulled him out of the top and allowed Kantuu to win. Chuck hasn't been working for me as I hoped he would.
Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :
RED SUN ALL ABOUT IT
Supergirl. While the general "shape" of the holo is quite good, this holo could be better. Kara Z, I'm waiting for you to break out, to really bring it! Get a little Satan Girl if need be, even super-good girls can tap into that diva energy.
Chuck. I like the pose: friendly, welcoming Chuck. Natural. But I think he's doing "big guy in tight outfit = funny" again, and I've already made my feelings on THAT clear.
Nightwind. I find this pose odd. What is she doing?
Kantuu.Whoa. In his previous holos, he's had such presence. Now he's a dude standing at the edge of a crater. Look at him, he looks like he's thinking I've had such presence in my previous holos, and now look at me, I'm standing at the edge of a crater. Director!!!!
Chu. Cheesy, over-the-top pose. WTF...of space!
Dvron. Smart choice in costuming: contrast, not compete with the scenery. Rather basic pose works nicely here. (Take note, Chu.)
Winners: Supergirl Dvron
Respond least to: Chuck (I warned you!) Chu
On notice: KANTUU. Dude. Don't let the admiration of the Emerald Whosits go to your head. Going from full-tilt space-boogie to Dryadian stroll-pace overnight? I almost -- and probably should have -- voted you out this round.
Posted by Fat Cramer on :
Thanks for the reminder, Sketchy. I hate rejecting people, but here goes:
Nightwind and Kantuu - out!
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
We were much more diplomatic for the Debutante Ball competition, but I think having eliminations works best for these competitions.
We don't have to use the term "reject" though. In fact, for this competition, we've had "farewells."

Congrats go to which Female? Chu 3 Nightwind 3 Kara 1
Farewell to which Female? Chu 3 Nightwind 3 Kara 1
Wouldn't it be weird to win the challenge, but also lose?
Congrats to which male? Dvron 4 Kantuu 2 Chuck 1
Farewell to which male? Kantuu 4 Chuck 3 Dvron 0
Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :
Gosh, it looks like I might be breaking a few ties today... I'm going to ignore the results and comments for now so I don't get biased.
Comments:
Chu
Looks... Her body language suggests she might be dazzled, but the face says she's more bored. But she does look very graceful.
Dvron
Hm, he looks confident and all, but it's not really doing much for me. The scene is good, but Dvron kind of bores me.
Kantuu
Now this is what I'm talking about, Dvron. Kantuu also has a simple, relaxed pose, but it's more... striking, somehow.Maybe it's in the tilt of the head.
Nightwind
I like the outfit and 'do, but the pose struck me as odd at first. It would make more sense if she were using her powers (which doesn't seem to be the case) or if she were trying to claim Krypton for Earth or something. I half expected to see something jumping up at her from the ground. If the pose had had a "story" behind it I'd easily put her in #1 though.
Chuck
I like the pose and the smile. Chuck just looks so HAPPY and welcoming! Course, would be nice if he didn't show off the bully too much because Chuck doesn't NEED to go skintight to get people's attention. The smile and the charm are enough.
Kara
I like the "surprised" look she gives off, but it's kinda artificial. Something's missing. I think if she were solemnly watching the falls instead, it'd all be perfect: Kara serenely enjoying home while her cape and skirt billow with the heat, but she doesn't mind 'em at all. Something like that.
Okay, this is really tough.
Girls:
It's tough, really. Kara's going home for me. I'm not sure who should win, though. On one hand, Chu is interesting and elegant. On the other hand, Nightwind has some more surprises for us, I'm sure. Ooooh this is tough. I'll give this round to Nightwind because the whole thing just seemed to come together more.
Boys:
I guess I'm the only one who didn't like Dvron, but I'm still going to bump him off. And I vote for Chuck to win.
Posted by Sketch Lad on :
Thanks for the reviews, IB. It's a really tight race this time, for sure.
I will give artist's notes after this elimination. I do have responses to some of the commentary and more general thoughts about this one.

NIGHTWIND for the win. Beautiful, beautiful colors.

Dean, first of all props for the amazing drawings of Chu winning and losing. Wow, those almost made me sorry I didn't vote for her to win last round!
Like others have said, Kara's all innocent. But Nightwind looks so sexy and alluring! So Nightwind for the win!
For the guys, I admit I'm a bit biased. But, it's refreshing to see someone not the normal model-type. And once again, I think you got Chuck's "niceness" and happiness thing. Maybe they should threeboot him with some kinda "good vibes" power! The current team could sure use some of that
Chuck Taine for the win!
