Definite plans for Sister Paragon as she re-adjusts to her new status, and no, KorD Das is not a plant. As much fun as that would be! [Big Grin]

Anyone have any other views to share?

Gimallon realises what a potential mistake he’s made.

In reacting without a professional level of planning he has left his party without sufficient options in case anything goes wrong. He is glad to note that each have followed his orders without any queries or confusion. The escaping Beasts each have a vulnerability that, he told them, should be exploited if they are to clear this mess up without any more loss of life. The Flasher Beasts are very vulnerable to sudden extremes of temperature so he lets Stellar deal with them. The Rhooni fire mystic should easily be able to herd them back to a Holding Pod. It isn’t quite that simple though as Stellar, like all of her people are susceptible to bright lights, their large eyes being incredibly sensitive. Chloro, overcoming his natural fear of fire, helps Stellar by guiding her. Like all his race he has not light sensitive optical senses, he is incredibly sensitive to heat, smell and to air movement though so is unaffected by the strobing defences of the great Beasts. The Bushman’s precision firing of his spiky seed spores help dissuade the Beasts though it is the Flashers fear of fire that has stopped them charging the two Auxiliary legionnaires and thankfully Stellar has more than enough fire to keep them back.

“Still”, Gimallon thinks, “for all their bravery and good intentions they are badly untrained and there is always the risk… Damn! We should have taken full body armour… K shields anyway!” Gimallon is too busy to do much more with the thought as he expands to his ultimate height and picks up the woolly mammoth that is at present trying to squeeze itself into a Mixway access tube in search of more food. The 7 ton cloned elephant wriggle unsuccessfully and bellows it’s annoyance as the Imskian warrior lifts it into an empty enclosure. He notes that the Pod says it holds Saber Beavers. The two animals are both vegetarians so there shouldn’t be a problem, he hopes. He notes that Gannet and Cheshire have herded the escaping flock of Blackfaced sheep back to their Yard on their way to searching for survivors under a fallen viewing structure.

As agreed Hol El, Blackout and Fredd are tackling the deadly Hajka flock. Gimallon is sure that these three are more than capable of dealing with the birds, though he wishes he had brought a Braalian to weave a magnetic shield for them. Between Fredd’s speed and invulnerability and Hol El’s Gene Banging induced heat vision the flock are pushed back up to the upper reaches of the Rock. Blackout levitates amongst the lower reaches of the herd, their sharp edged bodies plunge unconciously to the Rock’s floor below as they try to attack the Reaqindoos girl and fall instead prey to her natural phasing and mind blanking abilities. The flock are aware enough to realise that if they are below a certain level within the safari Pod then they will be grabbed, blasted or knocked unconscious. As the glut of fresh food had soon subsided and the mating urge had faded with it so the return to their nesting heights is not a troubled choice for the Hajka.

Gannet and Cheshire, on locate and rescue duty, are continuing to find and help the survivors and hidden amongst the damaged Safari Rock and Gimallon is pleasantly surprised by the professionalism that both display. Cheshire is able to search for survivors underneath the rubble and fallen mezzanine while Gannet calmly eats his way to them. Finally he stops talking! Gimallon smiles to himself at this thought. The young Bismollian proves to be a competent field medic with a good supply of mini medical equipment in his belt pouches and a skillful way with patients.

Looking at his wrist ‘mator and checking that there are only three sheep, a Braalian retro-diggeroo and a swarm of Mexican Bees left to be returned to their Habitats Gimallon finally allows himself a big breath.

“We’ve dealt with the major threats now Team Three, keep up the good work and we’ll be clear of here in no time!”

Even as he pushes this thought along the telepathway to the team he sees Fredd fall out of the sky and plunge head long into the Rock floor underneath.

Allergies are a fairly universal thing.

Most races, Beings, Beasts and creatures have certain substances, chemicals, materials and whatnot’s that their metabolisms cannot comfortably deal with. In most cases it results in eyes watering, sneezing and maybe even a rash of hives. In more serious cases it can lead to respiratory problems and unconsciousness. In the most extreme case it can be potentially fatal. A good example of this would be the widely known allergy that the usually invulnerable Daxamite race collectively have to lead poisoning. The procedures that their armed forces and diplomats go through to overcome this are rumoured to last for nearly two Daxam years – twenty eight standard Solar months – and have only a 40% success rate. Those that survive the treatment have been known to tell of the constant pain that they had to undergo during those two long years.

Venom induced allergic reactions can been seen as a malfunction of the immune system and it’s system of regulation. It is unfortunate that alongside the allergic reaction there can often be systemic sensitivity whereby each subsequent exposure to the allergen brings on a faster and stronger reaction.

Within most law enforcement agencies potential members must undergo a full medical check up that includes a complete allergen test. Before the potential members at the Legion Try-outs at the Barcelona open day were allowed to participate they had a lengthy disclaimer form to complete and it is very clearly stated upon this that any allergies must be noted. Fredd, like 98% of the hopefuls there completed the form 100% truthfully, as far as he was aware. He was unaware that he had any allergies, having never been stung by a Mexican Bee before. Certainly he, and probably virtually all who had met him, would have doubted that the small barbed stingers could break his skin to deliver their small poison dose. Having been bred to live in Jovian class gravities he had thought of himself as virtually invulnerable. The touch of the barbed sting against his skin is enough to bring on the allergy, thereby weakening his skin, before the poison is released weakening his system even further.

If Team Three had remained in Barcelona and had progressed any further within the Try-out then he, like every other Being to progress that far, would have been obliged to take a complete medical test. Of course the Great Wheel had turned and Team Three had been chosen by Gimallon, for not exactly the most altruistic of reasons, to help capture the escaping animals on this Safari Pod. Fredd was proud of being part of Team Three. He was certain that this was the right step towards becoming the Hero he had always wanted to be.

And as he would want to be thought of as a Hero Fredd would act as he thought true Heroes should act and he faced each of the perils before him with great determination and bravery. It is true that one sting by a bee would probably not really be felt by the squat powerhouse, it is unfortunate for him that he has just flew through a large swarm of nearly 500,000 and is being swamped by the small flying terrors. And the first sting breaks the skin on his neck the pheromone it releases attracts the warrior drones who attack instinctively, their inborn reactions are the same as they have been for millennia. Protect the hive/ swarm/ Queen. Attack the predator!

And within seconds Fredd feels real pain for thefirst and last time in his tragically short life.

Fredd had been born into a dense gravity world, his people had long found their dense molecular structure protected them from all manners of physical harm. This latent invulnerability was legendary, unfortunately it did have a detrimental effect on the evolutionary potential for the race. As they could not be hurt or physically damaged they did not need to heal so lost the ability to recover from damage as, normally, they could not be harmed. As Fredd is feeling as he plummets to the ground, pain really can HURT.

He is lucky that he has never had to feel such things before.

He is unlucky in that he is dead before he hits the floor.

There are few noises to the Human ear as genuinely disturbing as a new born baby continuously crying.

It is hardwired into Human’s genes that this will cause a listener to react. To the Durlan ear it is less offensive than the sound of wet leaves rustling. This is a noise very similar to the sound a M’urcawch Swamp Raptor makes as it devours it’s prey. As the Raptor is the only large predator left on Durla all young are trained from a very early age to avoid the marsh pits were these fearsome carnivores hunt. To the Tamaran Princess the dis-chord she heard within the Song of All Creation when she arrived in the 35th century was as unpleasant as she could possibly have imagined.

Her people, the Tamaran of Vega had been mere months away from extinction. The Creeping Dram Plague had destroyed their world and the few hundred survivors had fled in the Arc Bubble Ships that their ancestors had first used to travel to the now lifeless Tamara Five. The unhealthy resonance of her race dying had galvanised her into action. As the mysterious forces of the Universe sung of the end of the Tamarans to her she understood that this was were her destiny was to be made. Here she would be able to make a difference. Here she could live up to the title of X’halkin.

As the fifth child of eight she had been brought up with little hope of ever really becoming an important figure amongst her People. Her father, Labien, had not even known she was one of his children until she was almost ten years old and he had died and been reborn as the living star Auron. She had always believed her destiny would be to be married to a member of another Vega High Family for political gain. She had, of course, been trained by the Okaaran Warlords in the ways of Battle. The Omega Men had finally given her a break from her otherwise predictably staid life. And on only her fourth mission with then she had been time flung by a renegade Psion and had found herself alone in a distant future.

Until this very minute the last living descendant of the mad star goddess X’hal was unaware that there could be anything worse than hearing the Universe sing of a race’s imminent demise. As she has just found out as she enters the Valenian Reality, without the protection that the Trom Buddhist Drive Ships incorporated, there are something’s far worse than mere extinction of your people.

The Song of All Creation howls of the death of this whole reality.

It is enough to shake her to the very core and in a moment of total panic she tries to flee from the incredibly unhealthy forces by altering her form to that of Xrays and diving into the Valenian Realities. She streams away from the rapidly shrinking trans dimensional interfaces that the team had just snuck through.

Jo Nah, The Ultra Warrior and current team leader is aware of her discomfort and as he turns to reassure her he sees the pain on her face and watches in horror as she transforms and is gone.

“Grife! What a start to a mission!”

There are seven Legionnaires on McCuilolo Major to help The NuUP team with the task of terraforming.

Kid Mental is in the command pod with several of Triple Cubed selves watching as his plans for the recovery of this planets surface beauty are put into practice. With the opening of his mind to the Song of All Creation by the Tamaran Princess he has become a very vocal supporter of the Firstfooters cause. He is concentrating so much on the work at hand that they have only had two furtive fucks this morning. He doesn’t notice that she is obviously not even a little disappointed by this turn of events. Not so long ago his ego would dictated he acted differently.

The two Daxamites, Nar Nase and Byt Fess had flown off to the Northern Hemisphere to help with the rebuilding of the northern cities of Aberdreich and Dundoom. The rebuilding of the Amber Man’s Stonehaven amphitheatre and the small archipelago of islands around it had fallen on Thane Refrocran of the Tamaran Wandering Stars, Red Fox of the Sol Defence League and the eccentric Green Lantern Lalloo Manypockets from the Sorcerors Guild of Worlds and other Spatial Oddities.

Triple Cubed and Kid Mental were supposed to be organising the entire operation. Kid Mental had surprised the group when he had single handedly taken over and in a short time had worked out the logistics of such a mammoth task and had forecast that within fifteen of the planets 19 hour days it would be returned to the appearance its former glory. He has become engrosed with keeping this world true to it's pre White Triangle form. The refugees they had found in the Hercules Cluster were on the planets surface helping with the incredible task, their collective memories of what the world had been like did not always gel but still he showed a previously unheard of patience while listening to each of them as they recounted their tales in great detail. He asked each of them for as much information as they could recall of the physical geography of their homeworld prior to the Daxam Fleets arrival, determned to return it to as close to it's former stark beauty as was possible.

The young lithe girl from Carggg is surprised as she acknowledges to herself that she is becoming more and more reluctant to leave the normally arrogant young man from Old Earth. Even as she watches him at the Infoskin she realises with a sudden lump in her throat that she has fallen for Kid Mental. She says a quick prayer to her ancestors that her feelings will be reciprocated.

“They’re finally here!”

Looking up she sees that he is excited with the appearance in the atmosphere above of a Valenian Drive shuttle. It’s intricate bug like wings and lapis and silver designs stand out sharply on the ‘skin against the turquoise and white sky.

“Who is this?” Her number eight self asks as she runs her hands gently through his hair and leans over his shoulder to look at the screen.

“Didn’t I say? I’ve asked for help from the NuUP to re-seed the seas and clouds. They’ve sent three of their most renowned specialists, Sir Emin Judgen Towers is the Galaxies premier clone specialist, Salvadori of the Crood Collective, he’s a speciallist in the biosphere’s of water based atmospheres and there’s… ahhh… Shaysi Lavender from San ‘frisco University sub sea department…. And… ummm…" for a second he looks away from her as if embarrased, "before you hear it from elsewhere, she’s my second wife. I can’t remember if the divorce ever came through…”

Right, as term restarts tomorrow that'll be all for me for quite a few days, please tell me if you are enjoying this (or even if you are not) as all opinions are valued and listened to.

I worry I might be getting too dispersed again with my characters and plotlines - are you following this or do you want me to stick to a single storyline at a time?

Thank you for taking the time to peruse my little interpretations of the future, hope you enjoyed your stay [Big Grin]

Kord Das smiled his most inviting smile.

His announcement that the Big Push against the Grand Invaders had started and the Hajor System had been liberated was greeted by a flurry of Media questions. He had graciously answered the first six before moving on to talking about the losses that the battle had inflicted on the NuUP and Legion forces. The announcement that the Auxiliary Legion would have 34 new members to train from out of the 650 hopefuls who had tried out in Barcelona helped counterbalance the losses.

Das made a point of calling Fredd a Hero, telling the assembled media that the fallen man would be given a full Legion burial and posthumous membership, his pinched face looking sombre for the first time in that days press meeting.

He ended by reiterating that the struggle against the Grand Invaders had only just begun but he had Seen a brighter future. Until then his Legion would be ready and willing to stand up for the freedoms of any and all NuUP residents, fighting the Invaders wherever they were, in space or planetside.

Zoe Saugin had watched as Kord Das had manipulated, cajoled and eventually led the rapt audience into his web of words. He had never doubted that they would believe him, his confidence and apparent control were incredible to see. Zoe turned her ring between her index finger and thumb and thought about what she would have to say to Jo when he got back from wherever it was he had gone. Did she fully believe that the Dragons would be needed? The Great Herd Matriarchs had many reasons to be wary of Humans and Zoe knew that Jo would defend the Great Beasts choice to the very end. Jo would stand by the Great Herds with a stubborn tenacity that would surprise anyone who didn’t know him as she did. He owed his life to the Herd.

Zoe knew she had a couple of days before he returned to decide what she really believed would be for the best. It would not be an easy conversation to have with the man whom she had shared the last few centuries with.

“Jo Nah, I miss you tonight darling” She sent the thought along with a prayer to the Eternal Mother never thinking for a second that either would hear her.

Glorion was beginning to feel impatient.

The Gorilla from Heliotrope City on Tharn had been made to wait for six straight days now, and as each day was 41 standard hours long it had been six LONG days. The Most Serene Cloud Above had asked Glorion to wait for the Many Headed Choir to deliberate on the message he had brought with him to the Higher Voices from Kord Das. As a mere Historian and Technocrat Researcher Glorion took that request as an order.

So here he was, sat on a rude wooden bench in the high ceilinged hallway outside the Great Deliberating Vault in the bowels of the floating city, watching flickering candle spun shadows play across the bare walls around him. The ancient mystical scarab that lived within Glorion was restless too. He could feel it as it paced inside his belly, it's tiny pointed feet tickling the lining of his stomach.

“Glorion, I’m bored, bored, bored, bored, boredboredboredboredboredboredBORED….”

“Ah Beetle, sometimes your opinions are so astute and give me such clear insight into…”

“You’re not clever enough to spar with me Glorion so please don’t waste my time trying to imagine some insult that would even begin to…”

“Well at least you’ve finally stopped moaning like a stroppy ten year old…”

“Don’t get personal Glorion, that’s just being rude you now, and I certainly never brought you up to be rude…”

“That’s such a crock, you are no more responsible for…”

Before the internal conversation could continue any further the great doors of the Vault slowly gave a creak as they are opened from within. The crack line of light widened out until the corridor was lit in warmth as if the sun had risen. Glorion peered at the faces of the Higher Voices as they slowly paraded out from the chamber, eager to get a clue to the decision they must have reached.

S'trtrtr of the Twenty Fathom Pool was one of the last of the Corporeal Choir Voices to pass Glorion and she carried herself with an unusually serious carriage, her long back straight and rigid, her blue face looking pinched and solemn. Her eyes found Glorion and she winked slightly and the corners of her mouth rose for a fraction of a second.

“Somehow I guess we won’t stay bored for long…”

“And not a moment too soon either.“

Sorry, we had server issues so I haven't had a chance to reply. The dragons are dragons, for the sake of argument lets say they are the space whales natural predator - I'm sure I can fit that somewhere into a story.

I've written out the next two parts so I'll post them over the weekend.
