ALLWORLD MEDIA, THE NOVAE NEWS, EDITORIAL, CURRENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST V'NITCH UJIBBLA COMMENTS

A general alert has been issued around the Lattice ‘Stroid Entertainment Arcades in the Lower Ranges of Earth space. We have unconfirmed reports of the escape of a flock of needle spiked Hajka Birds, a Flasher Beast and several unnamed other creatures from the central Rocks interplanetary Safari Pods.

The Authorities of the outer Lattice 'Stroids have closed the Mixways up to the residential and hotel areas. The central Mall Rocks are thought to be still brimming with commuters, shoppers and sight seers. The Science Police have advised all non essential Beings to avoid the area until further notice is given.

Stay tuned as we keep you updated of events as they happen.

………………………….

Gimallon is scanning the World Net for something worthy of his time.

He is sat in full body armour watching fourteen hopeful Legionnaires fight each other for the chance at having a place within Kord Das’s organization. To say that Enri is bored is to state the very obvious. Despite nearly fifteen years as a meta operative of the Imskian army, experience in combat situations that would terrify the commmon Being, he has no patience for PR stunts and publicity seeking events. It is one of the reasons, he believes, that he has not progressed within the Imskin forces. It is also one of the reasons he is so popular with the general public. With the exception of eating his own flesh he can’t think of anything he’d like less to be wasting his time doing.

Thankfully his ear-piece has a fully operational real time relay system. He hears the news as soon as it is broadcasted and knows that this is the opportunity he needs. He quickly pushes the knowledge along with his suggestion along the telepathway to Widdid Spood. The Durlan Green Lantern doesn’t take his eyes off the contestants below, apparently never losing concentration on the contest below as he agrees with the Leviathons assessment and ideas.

Gimallon casually slips from the viewing pod to the refreshments bay behind, shrinks down to 4 inches in size and flies out and down towards the Team Three group. He has a little mission for them, if they want.

Kord Das and Zoe Saugin watch the Infoskin.

The battle in the Hojar system has been raging for over three hours now and while the Legion are definitely driving the Grand Invaders back it has not been without losses on their side. The Green Lantern Dellaboma, 14 Daxamite soldiers and Strong Man of the SDL had all been slain in the battle. Irretrievably slain, their bodies either torn apart by the harsh vacuum of deep space or simply disintegrated on a molecular level. The Space Medics Corp are workers of many medical miracles but even they're skilled practioners have their limits.

The losses on the Grand Invaders side were incalculable. Their needle ships had been smashed, disitigrated, broken and blasted in an orgy of coordinated violence. If Zoe hadn't have seen first hand the destruction that the Invaders had inflicted on several worlds she would not have been able to stand by and watch the horror of this skirmish as it unfolded.

Zoe was glad that Das had chosen to view this on a Infoskin rather than use the full 3D real time holographic representation. She found that the full surround image that showed the colossal distances and relatively tiny sizes of the combatants made it too easy to miss important details. Not that she was concentrating fully on the battle, her eyes followed only one small group of signals.

As the screen’s icon for Jo Nah, Clear Skies Coming, the Tamaran Princess and their Bgtzlan guide Murga Brazz popped out of existence, leaving a query sigil, Zoe took a deep breath and turned to Kord Das.

“What guarantees do you give Das if I ask the Dragons for their aid, what’s in it for them?”

BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS

At the Open Call for Legion members in Barcelona there have been calls of favoritism and rigging! We have been approached by Ergit Mannorily, the self titled Statistic Kid of Gorunaho 14 who claims that in every batch of applicants there were significantly higher chances of being picked if you were numbered either 23 or 46. Although this has not proven to be 100% exact we notice from our files that in five of the seven batches of applicants Widdid Spood picked these numbers, while in one of the other batches he picked numbers 24 and 46. While it has been theorised that he may have simply been following a Durlan ritual where number 23 is seen as a ‘lucky’ number – it is the number of sexes that those creepy shape changers possess remember – it has also led to calls for an explanation from Kord Das, also present today, why he has allowed the resident Green Lantern to chose so many of the applicants.

Should Kord Das be made to explain to the legions of disappointed meta beings who have traveled from all four quarters of the know galaxy to be here today why he has apparently abdicated control to Widdid Spood?

Excerpt from The Lesser Heroes, an essay by Mikel Chatzopoulou. New Mars University, 3499.

iii) The Martian Defence League.

In one of the last incarnations of the Martian Defence League there was a mysterious member called Mol EL. She was originally recruited as a battle medic though in the three major campaigns she fought in she established herself as a warrior of great mettle.

She was reasonably reticent about giving too many details about her past though the Nebulae News was able to get confirmation that she was somehow connected to The Last Son of Krypton. Although it was never officially confirmed it was widely believed that Mol El was the grand daughter of Superboy and the Terran pole vault champion Ella Fontainus.

Mol El had the abilities to absorb solar energy to boost her own natural strength and resistance to harm, to project stored energy as thermal radiation, and the capacity to breathe in and out tremendous amounts of air. As well as these physical abilities she showed a tremendous affiliation towards engineering and gene technology.

She used a system she called Gene Banging to temporarily induce abilities in herself. These were rumoured to include invisibility and mind reading. There was a small scale enquiry by the Sol Public Health Bureau into this technique though they never insisted on quarantine status and the media hinted that the system relied on some unspecified supernatural power source. Whatever the truth behind it she took the technology and the secret behind it with her when she retired to the non aligned Small World colonies.

As these colony worlds have only been fully Terraformed within the last century their access to high speed communications; Realtime, Valenian drones etc, has been sorely lacking until recent years. This unfortunately means that we are left to peice together the life of the Founders of the Small Worlds through stories, urban tales and diaries left behind. One tale says she vanished after the Skirmish Battles of 3461, while another clearly tells that she initiated the Colonies culture of taking respected elder members of the community to a fully automated planetary core to become one of the ruling elite for the Small Worlds. Whatever the truth it is widely recognised that Mol El was a highly regarded member of the new communities though it is sad we are left with many blanks when we try to find out details about this fascinatingly elusive Being’s life.

Gimallon takes Team Three to the shuttle port.

Hol El can feel his eyes running up and down her legs and she rather enjoys the thought of his attentions. Gannet is talking like the excited boy he is, asking rhetorical questions, filling any gaps in the conversation with observations and anecdotes, and desperately trying to cover his disbelief and anxiety at being on a genuine mission with a Legionnaire. While he’s engaging and obviously intelligent Hol El wishes Gannet would be a little less chatty and a bit more elsewhere.

She allows Cheshire to jump onto her lap and strokes the Elevated Cat with absent attention. Blackout and Fredd discuss tactics to use against the Hajka Birds, whose razor sharp wings and incredible speeds make them a formidable challenge to catch. Everyone agrees that Hol El and Fredd are the only two whose abilities make them unlikely to be shredded by the escaped flock.

“What Gene Banging tricks have you got then? Can you do all the things your Grandmother could?”

Gannet asks the questions and it takes Hol El a couple of seconds to realise he is asking this of her. She is momentarily surprised that he knows about her Grandmother's technology before she realises that the Info-sheet/disclaimer she had to sign before joining in this morning’s try out would be accessible to anyone.

Damnations, she thinks, why did I give them so much information?

Smiling, she turns around in her seat, unwilling to move Cheshire away from the view iris she’d been facing to see that all of the team are looking at her with polite interest.

“Ummm actually I hadn’t thought really…” before she can finish her statement she is asked from three separate directions “What can you/it/Gene Banging do?”

“Ummmm, wellll… ummm… it was something my Grandmother developed that accesses some of the latent Kryptonian genetic probabilities….ummmm… I guess it’s not always too reliable …” Her weak answer only garners her more queries, some like Blackout’s and Chloro’s are politely phrased, while it surprises Hol El when the Rhooni fire mystic Stellar says “Well if that’s all it does then why blatchin’ bother with it?”

Gimallon has stood back, his arms crossed and leaning on a side wall of the shuttle. There is a smile on his broad face but little warmth is showing in his brown eyes. With deceptive calmness he walks over to the group. His voice isn’t loud but the group quickly quieten to hear it.

“The woman doesn’t deserve your rude questions. She is allowed some privacy, even as an auxiliary Legionnaire. And remember that it was her tactics that gave you your victory this morning.” His eyes are like small stones, hard and unforgiving as he stares at Gannet and Stellar.

Cheshire stands up on Hol El’s lap, arches her back in a magnificent sinuous stretch and announces to the party “Did anyone think to bring a litter tray, I really do need to crap now!”

In Durlan, what Widdid Spood is feeling is called “Ht’chukka”.

Translated it becomes “profound frustration”. He is feeling the most intense feeling that a Durlan can feel. They have adapted so that when faced with an extreme situation their natural reaction is to quickly puff themselves up to as much as thirty times their normal size, then quickly deflate and change into a object that is indigenous to their surrounds. Widdid Spood resists the natural urge to expand at a rapid rate with all his might knowing full well that the bank of Eyespys and Quizcams in front of him would take great glee in reporting his losing control. The Durlans have never really mastered anger as a feeling, their physiology simply doesn’t allow it, and maybe it's just as well.

He had been growing to almost enjoy the day when it had all started to go wrong. Firstly Gimallon had taken a winning team off on a mission to the Latice ‘Stroids, causing a stir and leading to a few more questions from the Media. Then there was an accusation that he was somehow cheating the combatants below by always picking the same numbers from each batch. It finally got too much when it became apparent that Kord Das wasn’t really paying attention so a small Quizcam actually reached out to prod him, ruining the Holopics perfect image. Then the proverbial shit hit the proverbial fan.

SPLAT!!

Widdid Spood feels it may have been a bit more bearable if his team had supported him a little more. Avatar simply loosened her grip on gravity and floated up into the outer atmosphere like a balloon when approached by the Eyespys while Moh Johh and Sparkzzz both referred questions to him and tried to hide the smiles from the mouths and laughter from their eyes. Without, Widdid was later heard to muse, too much success.

The bank of Eyespys floating above the picturesque Spanish square are not bothering with normal etiquette, instead they are shouting, flashing and beaming their questions at him in a frenzy of Media interest. They are three feet deep in places he notices within a distracted part of his mind.

Why did he allow Kord Das to talk him into this again? He rolls his eyes, takes a deep breathe and prepares to start answering questions.

"Green Lantern, what are your feelings on accusations of fixing?"

"Green Lantern, where has the Imskian Gimallon taken Team Three?"

"Green Lantern, where is Kord Das and why did he instigate this ruse?"

"Green Lantern, what is the truth in the stories about four of your members in Madame Rouges all-you- can- eat- bipedal- orgy- buffet?"

The squeals of laughter from Sparkzzz are, he thinks, just too much.

The Lattice ‘Stroids in Earth Space are famous throughout the Galaxy.

Their Mixways and Traveltubes are renowned for their lively atmosphere. The blend of up market shopping facilities, entertainment venues and restaurants to just hang and been seen make this one of the most popular places for the younger and hipper crowd.

The crowds flock to the ‘Stroids everyday and night, all hoping to participate in the galaxies longest running and still chart topping Reality Holo programme – Lattice Life! At present there are three popular ‘Net channels dedicated to broadcasting all day, everyday entirely within the ‘Stroids, focussing on the lifestyles of the eclectic mix of workers, habitants, shoppers, party goers, tourists and transients that are attracted there.

Today media attention has been sorely limited by the Earth Science Police and the frenzy of rumours and scare stories that are appearing on the media headlines are giving Viv Barron Wysocji, the ‘Stroids’ current major stakeholder and spokesbeing a blinding headache.

As asked she hasn’t released any footage of the Legions involvement yet. They have been in the mixways for nearly fifteen minutes now and Viv, a product of a society where anything anybeing wants will be ready in almost the blink of an eye, is not happy about having to wait so long before she can re-open to the crowds.

Are these fun and games not enough for you then Numf?

[LOL]

I'm busy most of the weekend so I'll get back into it on Monday.

There are quite a few things afoot here, one is rather obvious, a couple are sort of easy to figure out but the biggie I've planned will hopefully overfill my 'leftfield quota' for this arc.

Keep that perch on the seat edge ready!

Have a great weekend everyone

Poor hard done by Widdid Spoon.... [LOL] It's nice to see you have a 'straight guy' in the group.... I've always thought GLs were too uppity anyway (***oooh get me and my power ring and my intergalactic policeman's remit*** Bloody w@nkers if you ask me! Tho you didn't.... ahem....)

and I love Cheshire - a cat as an Elevated Being indeed, I bet there's a few folk here who also like that, tho knowing you you'll kill it as soon as you feel the story is starting to flag.... [LOL]

You're focussing more on the characters and their interaction with each other in this arc - it makes it interesting to, for instance, read about SPace battles being watched rather than participated in, very brave of you to take this approach B, it works well...

more more and then more after that please...

My prediction for your leftfield story arc is that it will be revealed that Kor Das is actually a plant! [Big Grin]

Kx

Hol El is the last to emerge from the Mixway.

She clutches a terrified Xanthui child to her chest. The young girl had hidden from the Hajka birds attack inside a box of Imskian Retro Gloves, unknowingly she was protected by the magnetics that the gloves generated. The image of the young girl clinging to the invulnerable member of Team Three is broadcast throughout the Nothern Arm of the Milky Way within minutes.

With only 18 dead – one of which was an Auxiliary Legionnaire from Hol Els team, 71 hospitalised and maybe two hundred or so in shock Viv Barron Wysocji decided this wasn’t the PR disaster it might have been. In fact it most definitely could have been worse!

………………………

When the Hajka birds had finally realised that they were no longer bound by the magnetic beams of their invisible cage the flock had swooped at close to the speed of sound down upon the lower levels of the Interplanetary Safari Rock with a gleeful cheer.

It had been nearly nine months since the razor winged creatures had last eaten. They were not due to be fed for a further six. Of course the second and third generation birds knew with the hardwired instinct of the predator that it was not yet the time in their growth cycles to feed, still as eating living food equals mating season the hand sized flying blades of Eckabo 13 were unlikely to refuse the opportunity. Their battle cries and mating screetches were echoing from the walls as tore through the small Safari Pod.

The result of this was pandermoniuim as the many Beasts and Creatures, tourists and staff all raced to find protection or an exit.

ALLWORLD MEDIA, THE NOVAE NEWS, EDITORIAL, CURRENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST V'NITCH UJIBBLA COMMENTS

Team Three had arrived like the Heroes of Old.

Their flight formation, Gimallon at the point, was as if any of the prior incarnations of the Legion had returned once again. They bravely strode into the Mixways, closing the tunnel Hi-seal doors behind themselves with an ominous thud. They were inside for 18 agonisingly long minutes before Stellar of Rhoon and Gannet of Bismoll started leading the survivors of the escaped Beasts to safety.

Stay tuned as we interview the survivors and try to catch a comment from the heroic Legionnaires.

Helen of Thermyscira keeps her head down.

Her long black hair hangs down at the sides of her face obscuring it from the Eyespys that hover around the shuttle. Sister Paragon had returned to her home Sphere under a shroud of secrecy but left under the full glare of the Media that is already reporting her fate to the Galaxy beyond the Paradise Isle. The decision had been made and she was returning to Legion ‘Stroid to fulfil her duty.
Das had warned her that a temple Virgin would reveal to the Nebulae News exactly when her shuttle would leave. Forewarned she was but she never expected the bank of flying Media report drones that awaited her. Helen was glad that she had had the time to talk to her mother, the current General of the Sod, commander of the Amazon Infintry units and one of the seven councillors allowed to sit at Hera’s Table. Along with her mother Helen had spoken to her great Aunt Diana, the Most Revered High Priestess of the Central Temple and keeper of the Flames of Olympus.

The three women had spent 3 whole days inside the chapel house discussing Helen’s life amongst the Legionnaires. The two older women had asked so many questions and given no quarter until even Helen’s legendary aloofness was shaken.

“And Das said what then?” “Then what?” “Why did you feel that?” “What was Das’s response?” “What else did he say?” “What else led you to believe that?” “why?” “Describe the tone used” “And what else?” “What was your reaction?” “Who else was present?” “Go back, who said that?” “when?”

They had all fasted for those three days as the two women relentlessly got to the heart of the truth of Kord Das’s message. On the fourth morning they broke their fast in the Blue Tower of Morning. An official announcement was made that Helen would no longer be offered the support of the Amazons until she had redeemed her honour in the eyes of Most High Mother Hera. No Amazon was to offer her any aid in any situation. As there were only three Amazons outside of the Sphere at that time it was really only a symbolic reprimand. Still the shame drove Helen’s determination to new reaches. And as required by Amazon Law she had to redeem her honour without the luxuries she had previously known. Shorn of her weapons and magic Helen was returning to prove to her Sisters, the Legion, the viewing public and most importantly herself that she was still the most worthy of the title of Paragon of the Amazons
