One person has guessed one correct character (in the correct position).
I think those Blue Ribbon digests were mostly reprints, but this one had a wrap-around story that used the "Colossal Failure" as an extended flashback in the middle of it. The original story was written by Paul Levitz and drawn by Carmine Infantino, of all people.

IIRC, the beginning of the story had Marte Allon awarding the active Earth-born Legionnaires (Gim, Dirk, Val and Wildfire). Then she gets turned to glass; Gim has the flashback to the original Adventure story; and they stop the bad guy at the end. It was quite a good story, but you didn't miss all that much since the original Adventure story took up the bulk of it.

Hmmm if the flashback is such a central part of the story it sounds like the type of tale that might not appear in the Archives. I might have to hit up eBay for it.
