Not terribly current, but my children (six and four) have discovered the Cars "Just What I Needed" from the Circuit City commercials, so I've been playing them Cars songs lately. Man, they're good, but MAN, they sound dated. Apparently they programmed all their instruments, drums included. Weird.
The Toots and the Maytals CD is great, particularly "Blame on Me" with Rachel Yamagata. I don't really know her, but she sounds sexy as hell on that song.
I also just got the Ryan Adams "Gold" CD. Again, not new, but "New York, New York" is turning into one of my favorite songs ever. "Firecracker" is great, too. I really didn't want to like Adams because by all accounts he's kind of a dick, but his talent is absolutely undeniable.

ohmiGAWD... how about that song "Breathe (2 A.M.)" by Anna Nalick? Beautifully sang, beautifully written... I may have found my sad song of Summer 2005! I'm buying her CD on the strength of this one tune.
2 Am and she calls me cause I'm still awake Can you help me unravel my latest mistake I don't love him and winter just wasn't my season. Yea we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes Like they have any right at all to criticize Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason.
Cause you can't jump the track We're like cars on a cable and life's like an hourglass glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button girl So just cradle your head in your hands. And breathe, just breathe, whoa breathe just breathe
May he turned 21 on the base of Fort Bliss Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year Here in town you can tell he's been down for while But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles Wanna hold him but maybe I'll just sing about it
Cause you can't jump the track We're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button boys so cradle your head in your hands And breathe, just breathe, whoa breath just breathe
There's a light at the end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out And these mistakes you've made You'll just make them again if you'll only try turnin' around
2Am and I'm still awake writing this song If I get it all down on paper it's no longer inside of me threaten' the life it belongs to. And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd Cause these words are my diary screamin' out loud And I know that you'll use them however you want to.
But you can't jump the track We're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button now Sing it if you understand...yeah breathe Just breathe, ohh breathe

British Sri Lankan act "M.I.A." has this awesome sound. "Sunshowers" reminds me of an old Prince song. Hot Hot Heat's new disc is cool, and my fav track is probably "Running Out of Time". Anyone heard the remix of the old Superfriends/Super Powers theme called "The Time Is Now" from Cartoon Network? It spacerawks! A couple weeks back I came across Lemon Jelly and William Shatner's "Together" which is kinda cool.

No prob, CJ-- I had to redearch the 'net to find it. Got her CD today, so far so awesome... she's kind-of like a young Tori Amos, a bit more mainstream though, which isn't a minus for her. She's still deep but will likely sell more records. I've heard the first 4 songs and like them all so far. It's titled "Wreck of the Day".
Also bought the SCISSOR SISERS cd. omiGAWD, they space-rawk. Loved them when I saw 'em on SNL a while back, and the video for "Filthy/Gorgeous" has been playing at the video bar her, it was too awesome to resist.
Also bought Diana DeGarmo's "Bue Skies" cd for Mom tomorrow.

I know it's been out for a while now, but I just this week became obsessed with MAPS by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Karen O rocks.

That CD is awesome. I like "Y Control" even better than "Maps"! There's a "hidden" track at the end of the CD too, don't miss it!

The CD's been out a while, but I just picked up Green Day's "American Idiot". The whole thing rocks, but my fave is "Holiday".

American Idiot: "When September Ends" is going to be the big single off that album, whenever they decide to put it out.
Scissor Sisters: Even my lesbian friends are starting to question my sexuality with how much I love this big ol' gay album. The disco version of "Comfortably Numb" is hilarious. "Take Your Momma" is just a plain old great pop song.
