Mmmkay so this time I was working on a photomanip of Colossal Boy/Leviathan but couldn't think of who to cast for the longest time so I didn't get started until this week. Working along, I got most of it done except for shoulder pads and then thought I'd make a armorless version first since he looked kinda good without 'em ( an armored version or come:

Oh and then the "Gim Allon at a nude beach thread" got me thinking of a cartoon to do for the Gim Gallery and this is what I came up with. The caption reads:
Gim - "Hey guys the water's great!"
Shrinking Violet - *faints*

Mon, I love the expression on your Gim! Now GIMme some more contributions!

Editted to make the pic a little smaller thumbnail. Click for larger pic.

Excuse the excessively cartoony look of this one. I did it at lunchtime, and the only pen I had at hand was a felt tip marker. Even so it's not too bad, I think [Smile]

Wow you did that at lunch with a felt tip? What can you do at coffee break with just a bloody stump?!?

Wow! What a great dramatic pic FK! Send that bad boy to DC for use as a cover in the new series. Stat!

Double wow! I have nothing to add now that I'm sans-scanner, but I wanted to give props to Monkey, Val, Cru, & Frog Kid! Good job all.

I love the casting choice for Gim in Monkey's manip and I'm floored by the amount of background & smoke detail Frog Kid threw into his.

A little bit late but here's my (naughty ~ as usual [Big Grin] ) contribution to the gallery. Since it's a bit risque, I've decided to just provide a link to it instead.

Incredible stuff as usual, gang...

VtM, very nice! Am looking forward to the color version.

Monkey, I'd like to see a collection thread of your Legion 'toons. I love 'em as much as I love your photomanips.

Cru, nice pose for Gim, I like the relaxed crouch.

Frog Kid: WOW. Between this and last month cover for the SUBS vs. Nightcrawler comic, I am becoming your biggest fan!

Vee, I find myself intrigued by this ELSEWORLDS where Duplicate Boy and Colossal Boy have ditched Violet in favor of each other! What a powerful couple they would make... Wonderful colors too...

I'm loving the usage of Gim's ADVENTURE-era outfit...

I learned something from this link...

...the fact that Duplicate Boy's name is "Ord."

(Seriously, I never knew that. [Embarrassed] )

I love 'em all! Interesting to see Gim without clothes almost as much as with them. Oh and Future, kudos for noticing who the casting in my manip was (Daniel Cudmore of X2). I couldn't think of any other actors who had the size and age that I was looking for for Gim. I'm super busy right now but I'll try to crank out a variant version with shoulder pads and maybe that headgear...

Any more Gim selections? No prose or poetry? Sculture? Action figures!?!

Boring and drab
Except for his costume
Then killed off way quick
In the reboot

Waid has given
Gim a third chance
Let's give him some personality
A green shirt and yellow pants!

I wonder how an updated version of Gim's Adventure era outfit, maybe incoporating later elements such as the headgear, but certainly with the basic Adventure era color scheme, would look.

<this constitutes a hint to any artist willing to try...>

This big fella stands about 10" tall and is huge compared to the rest of my 5" scale customs. He was originally completed in 2003 and I have remade the shoulder and knee pads out of stronger material.

Decided to add the Legion Prime version of Gim/Calvin here, too -

I really enjoy doing something with Gim, even as Micro Lad. He's a good, steady character that doesn't get enough attention, imo.

Very clever, Candle.

Makes you wonder who Hobbes is . . .

Posted by Candle on :

Hobbes is usually Brin in my mind.
[Smile]
Calvin is more versatile, but usually he's most natural as Brainy, for me.
Especially the Coipel Brainy.

Did Calvin ever become a giant?

I haven't found one yet, but I'll keep looking.

Future is doing an Archive of Legion costumes over the last 50 years.
He inspired me and gave me permission to use his original works to create my own, updated outfits.

Gim is my first try at it.
These were taken from my original favorites + the two from, I think, from the Prime era.
I hope the detail shows.
If not, I'll have to come up with another way to present them.

I hope that the original design is enhansed rather than muddled up.

Gim's first costume, with the updated belt, was the most fun to do and as you can see, I like to have a Legion emblem on all of the Legion costumes as well as an identifying symbol for the individual.

Nice modifications, Candle. I really like the bottom one. Seeing that, along Lone Wolf Legionnaire's variants in the post above yours, make me realize just how much I dig Gim's original color scheme. It just pops so much more than the later blue and red.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Thanks, Ex!
And I tend to agree about the green and yellow combo.
I altered the unifom colors on the first 4 to see what would happen.
I think the first 2 are wonderful.
The Micro Lad uniforms, not so much.
There are endless combos, but of the few I tried, I liked these best.

I love the uniqueness of green/yellow/red on Gim and it is kind of funny how much he's not featured in it! As long as the red stays prominent so he doesn't slip into Matter-Eater Lad's color scheme, it works great. I feel like that's especially evident in the first two you did of the yellow/green schemes, Candle.

Love the new upwards insignia on the Giffen v2/v3 costume. It always was a little bland to me without something on the chest or stomach.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Yes, I changed a lot of the details on that bottom outfit while still trying to hold onto it's essense.
I like details, but I like to keep them simplified, echoing the other shapes and colors, especially in a superhero outfit that's also used for identification.

These costumes, I think, have good 'bones' and you can see that I dislike the underpart look.

The bottom, almost original design had the cinch waist look that was very 50-60 cowboyish, too.

Making the belt less dominant by using red on the decorations and adding a Legion buckle and a small pouch helped but the shirt still looked gathered. That's one of the two reasons that I added the symbol.
The other was that I like Gim to be 'branded' and still a tiny be cowboy like.
lol

I'd use the top Giffin on him now, adding a head piece in green, I think.

Thanks for the interest and comments.

The esperience is a little like drawing paper doll outfits.
