Alrighty then--

Name: Jared
Age: 23
Where you live: Arizona
What you do: Training to be a web designer/developer, as well as an amateur writer/artist

Legion info (favorite characters, creators, stories, eras; when you started reading; etc.)

I'm a bit of a recent constant reader--I remember that when I first got into comics, one of the first books I got from my public library was the Threeboot Legion. I remember enjoying it when I read it, but I don't think it left that big an impression on me at the time. I really got into them when I picked up the Johns/Frank Superman & The Legion of Superheroes story. With that, I started following the modern stuff with Legion of Three Worlds and on.

Since then, I've been picking up and reading stuff from different periods, but mostly following from the beginning (I've been using a podcast called The Legion of Substitute Podcasters" as a guide).

Other things you like (movies, books, music, etc.)

Well, I'm a huge fan of comics in general, both from the Big Two (though if I were honest, I probably have more knowledge/love for DC), as well as the indie/creator-owned stuff, like Vertigo, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, and the like.

Favorite movies is one of those things where my top ten changes approximately every 10 minutes.

Books, I'm really into sci-fi (obviously), horror, and mystery/crime (LOVE me some pulp/noir).

Music is another big varied thing. I like some rock, some hip-hop, some post-rock, and a lot of other alt/indie things in-between.

Not much else is coming to mind, so yeah, happy to be here, and if there are other questions, feel free to ask. [Smile]

First off, welcome!

Secondly, it's totally cool that the Threeboot Legion was your first introduction. We've got a lot of people whose first Legion experience was the 'classic' team, and a few more who are deeply invested in the 'reboot' team, but the threeboot team is generally a 'second language' (or 'third language,' actually) to most of us!

I know it's early yet, guys, but I'd like to nominate Jay Kay for the next leader of the Legion of Message-Board Posters. He is clearly a man of elegant and refined taste. [Wink]

Just kidding with you Jay, I am huge fan of hardboiled noir fiction. Who are some of your favorite authors?

I hope you enjoy your time on Legion World, and welcome!

We've got a few others who started with the threeboot, though I don't believe most of them are posting much these days. Definitely nice to have younger fans on board!

Well, there are the obvious guys in Hammett, Chandler and Spillane. I've also enjoyed Max Allen Collins, James Ellroy, Dennis Lehane, and so on--I'll admit I'm probably not as well-read as I would like to be (I've probably watched more movies and read more of the comics), but I do really enjoy them. [Smile]

And thanks for all the welcomes you guys. [Big Grin]

Welcome to the forum. I also started with the Threeboot. I found the Legion the year it came out, so of course I read it. I enjoyed it very much and miss a few of the characters now that it is gone.

Welcome, Jay! If you have any Qs on continuity or you want recommendations on which comics to read, just ask over in the Legion forum!

I think quite a few posters here also prefer DC to Marvel, but we have threads for both of those and for many other publishers over in Dr. Gym'll's which I see you've found already [Wink]

Another post-Zero Hour baby! Kinetix and Gates are still MY top two favorite Legionnaires ever, and that version of Brainy, Garth and Tasmia also trump all over versions for me.

The Silver Age-through-Baxter/Lightle run will always be 'my' Legion, but I do vastly prefer the Reboot Invisible Lyle to any other version.

While I do like elements of just about every Legion continuity, the Reboot really did Lyle justice.

YES. Actually, when I came back to the legion this year I was REALLY UPSET that Lyle is dead. I'd never seen any Invisible Kid but him! The only thing that would have made me happier is if the writer's had actually gone ahead and let him be gay. He was supposed to be dating Condo, but that never panned out. They seemed to be leading into a Brainy/Lyle thing in Legion, but that got canceled.

The fangirl in me weeps at the injustice. XD
